That said, I personally don't call myself a feminist because I fight for equal rights, and feminism has been taken over by sexists.
I don't call myself a feminist either but I don't think feminism has been "taken over by sexists". The only reason you believe that is because the sensationalist nonsense becomes viral and it gets places like Buzzfeed a lot of clicks. Most people who call themselves feminists are like you and I.
Maybe, but again, equal rights movements really are the enemy of stupid people. Whether that stupidity is merely ignorance and lack of understanding, or straight up bigoted hate. It might be too much to expect those who need to understand the causes of equal rights to know the difference. I still think moving away from the term feminism is a good thing either way, because as often as people try to say "Feminism IS about equal rights for men and women" it too often doesn't come off that way.

The non extremist ARE the mainstream feminists. There is nothing " extreme" about feminism, you are confusing Matriarchy with feminism and they are not the same at all. Most feminists do not believe any of the " junk" you seem to think they do. That is just alt right propaganda, not actually reality. I come from an actual Matriarchal society, feminism is NOTHING like that. LOL
Yes, it is up to the ignorant to learn, otherwise we would all be walking around like a bunch of brainwashed zombies being able to be recruited by the next cult or fascist that comes along. Kinda like the courts " ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it" ( aka: Go educate yourself before you do something stupid) Ignorance of reality is no excuse for staying that way. " feminism" isn't a brand trying to sell itself, it is just trying to improve the world to make it a better place for everyone in it. It is up to us to find out how.
They should learn, but again, with people like Trump rallying them, they really wont do that on their own. Its like a math teacher failing a kid without ever explaining what they got wrong. The kid doesn't learn anything from it. You can yell at the kid to study, but if he wont, or cant understand, then he needs to be taught.
And I think ignorance can be excused. Infact, I think if people were more understanding of ignorance, we could deal with it better. Things like murder shouldn't be excused, but if I go to another country and accidentally offend someone because of culture differences, the best result is they inform me. If I do it again, or don't care, that's one thing, but really, some cultural wrongs are so insane sometimes and causes more issues than need be.
And also, since you feel confident that feminism isn't as bad as I think it is, then I return to the idea of rooting out the bad apples. Just as outsiders need to know what "true feminism" is, then so should those part of it. The woman in the video in the OP for one, could use some education on the subject.
