Speaking strictly for myself, I hate them because of their deplorable marketing techniques and tendency towards mudslinging at the competition. Yeah I know they're a business and out to make money etc etc., but none of that is any excuse for the above mentioned behavior.

The western world really needs to get its shit together in this regard before we end up killing ourselves or worse. Especially the US *shakes fist* try leading with a positive example for once ya bastards.

Why do people hate EA? Because on the internet it's THE thing to do. They write bile all over forums proclaiming them to be evil, unehtical, etc..... and then run to Gamestop and buy EA games on launch day.

Edit: Reading through these comments is pretty funny. It's remarkable how people on the internet think they are actually a majority of gamers. In truth it's the far opposite.

Yup, EA are doing great and its only a few dissenters that are stirring shit... downward slopes are good right?

For clarification, that link shows EAs share prices from June/2011 to now (June/2012). It shows a steady, but undeniable decline in investors faith with EA in the course of a year.

The value of their shares from last year has been cut in half this year. Not only that, but if you look at the trend from last year you can see the pre-christmas lull (august to october), which then leapt up again for the Christmas season. If a similar trend follows this year we're looking at share values less then $10.

EA is feeling the burn, and now they are lashing out, accusing the so called "minority" of being unreasonable and irrational. Because EA is just a business, and they only do good business as evident by their shares.

EDIT: EA will need to pull something phenomenal out of their ass at this stage to reinvigorate investors interest.

Let see whats coming in the next few months into 2013:

NCAA Football 13
2 DLCs for The Sims 3
Madden NFL 13
NHL 13
Fifa 13
Medal of Honour Warfighter
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Command and Conquer 2 Generals
Dead Space 3
SimCity
Crysis 3
SimCity social (possibly a F2P Facebook game)
Overstrike.*

*In the next 8-10 months, EA has only 1 new IP.

Seems like they are playing safe bets. I bet the developers are going to feel the reigns tighten harder.
Where did I say anything about EA being good and that they are doing great? What I'm saying is on the internet a lot of people "hate" EA and they run out and go buy their games the second they come out. A lot of the EA hate is thrown out there just because other people on the internet do it too and it's the "cool" thing to do.

Like Sony, Microsoft, or any other company on the planet, EA is in it for the money, good or bad. And thats where my opinion of them stops.

Edit: And I don't understand why you posted that list of games and said that they have only 1 IP as if thats going to scare away investors.... Many of those games on that list will sell MILLIONS of copies. The only ones who care about new IP are the minority of us (including myself here) who genuinely love everything about games and want to see new IPs and new ideas. The majority of gamers (not us) just want the next Madden and Call of Duty and have no idea that people on the internet hates companies like EA and Acti-Blizz.

Oh, one last thing.

The whole:

"Oh, so we're The Man are we?"

Thing? Yes, yes you are. What, did you think of yourselves as starving artists? You're a company that buys other people's ideas and then guts them for parts.

Frankly, I dislike EA because they screw over good games. And IGN.com is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who most people hate... I don't think they'll get any favors from this.

Captcha: know your rights... I swear that's the second time in a row that this has come up...

Thanks for the link, helps illustrate the reality dismissive internet douches are happy to ignore.

And honestly, it amazes me that EA is betting against gamers holding a grudge. They really must not know anything about us >.>
I'm dismissive because I think there are more important things out there then looking at a videogame companies stocks and saying "zomgz you see this is what happens to evil overlords who are greedy meanie mcpants!!!!".

If you see my above post you'll see all I'm saying is that a lot of people bash EA because it's cool to do and then go out and continue to buy EA games.

EA just says generic video games to me. They try and try to secure new and fresh IPs, but they always seem to make them sterile and bland somehow. The major reason I don't like the company is their exclusive rights to the NFL license, thus killing my favorite football series NFL 2K. They've tried to do some different things with the football license, like Madden Arcade, but reviews seemed to reflect that that was crappy, too. I'm sure they're trying very hard to keep football fresh and fun, but the reality is that they aren't and us consumers are stuck with one mediocre product in what used to be a rich and varied genre. Not only that, but they charge $60 for it every single year, which it probably wouldn't be if they were forced to compete with other, better products. That's some monopolistic, almost USSR-esque grade A bullshit.

When reports first came out about abused workers getting screwed out of paychecks, I believe EA was the first company to get caught, Then it seemed to catch on like a trend. Burnout 3 was one of my favorite games ever, the only drawback being that every single time a race started, we were greeted with the EA logo in the corner followed by terrible music and an annoying DJ. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit was a pretty good game... except for the fact if your internet was down when you tried to play it, it took 30 to 40 seconds of staring at the EA logo in the center of the screen while it tried and failed to log into the network.

I could be wrong, but the publisher seems to try to shoehorn features into its games to advertise its own brand and it never ceases to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Ubi Soft aren't saints, but as an equivalent company, I'd go for them every time. I just like their games more.

You know what if EA went bankrupt and goes under, it's gonna be pretty cathartic when it does happen and we laugh and celebrate at its demise.

Although I will feel sorry for the people that will lose their jobs in the process if this ever happens.
yeah and they will hold all the cool IPs in their dead hands, like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space... really great moment.

Ragnstitches may not appreciate that quote being applied to them. I don't know how they got quoted with my post there but they may not share my views on the matter.

You suggested that people hate EA because people just hate for the sake of hating (really? Haters going to Hate?). I offered proof that it isn't an isolated, or minority, opinion and in fact has detrimental affects to EAs business.

Also consider that Sony and MS offer products outside of games. Sony is a MASSIVE hardware company with a tiny fraction of its efforts going into games. Microsoft is the worlds leading Software company for PCs and owns one of the big Console contenders of this and last generation.

The fact MS and Sony are still massively successful up to this point sort of accentuates the issues here.

EA is a game publisher, with the brains of a magpie and the Charisma of a rock.

EDIT: Also, though I didn't specifically state it, I was also contributing to the topic. I'm not trying to debate a point here, just offering a fact.

They can die after they let all those things go.

Read about Interplay (iirc) holding rights to FreeSpace even though it has no interest in it. Just because.

How is Activision worse? Activision may be quite bad, but they are NOT as bad as EA. None of Activision's big franchises have day one DLC, or online passes or shit like that. Yet EA's games have all of those, and they are generally more scummy.

Fuck IGN, we all know they're balls deep in EA's harem of whores made of money, why the fuck would I want to listen to the people who employ douchebags like Colin Moriarty?

And EA runs developers into the ground.
