... and I'd like some advice from people who don't drink or have tried the same.

Specifically, what would you drink in a pub or nightclub to replace alcoholic drinks? I'm a Pepsi Max fan but I drink two litres of the stuff a day and couldn't stomach much more of it.

Also, do you tend to find yourself getting less enjoyment as a night wears on and people start getting progressively drunker and you're stone cold sober?

Any thoughts are welcome.

The key to beating any addiction is to fill the void with another vice. I recommend coffee.
Keep yourself entertained. Most people relapse when they're bored.

Say you're the designated driver (lie if you hate driving drunks) and drink iced tea all night. It's fun! You get to watched your friends do stupid things and you're the only one who remembers!

I don't lose the enjoyment, it gets more hilarious as time goes on.

Actually I've started drinking iced tea lately and wonder why the hell I wasn't informed about it sooner.

I don't disagree, but I have the twin problem of living in a small town with damn all to do in it and being Irish. Drinking is basically our national pasttime.

My advice would be to not go to nightclubs or pubs if you're not going to drink.
I've gone to the pub as the designated driver, and it's painful watching everybody enjoy their beverages, and just sitting there sipping iced tea. And yes, depending on how much people are drinking you do notice that things become less enjoyable when you're surrounded by drunk people and totally sober.

I think saying you're giving it up implies that you do drink, so is there a big reason why you're giving it up? If it's a health reason fair enough, but besides that my final thought would have to be 'what's the point?'
It's ok to enjoy a drink once in a while in moderation if you want.

^This. Though I don't drink coffee myself, so my suggestion on what to drink in a bar would be energy drinks :)

Eh, you don't need to be drunk to dance!
If you don't like to dance, go to pubs.
If you don't like to hang out with your friends when they are drunk, don't go out.

I drink occaisionally, and do find that there are nights where I have had, say 2 beers while everyone else has had considerably more. I sometimes wonder why I bother with the 2 beers. I would be a lot richer if I never drank.

Whenever I go to a club I just get tap water. Drinks are so expensive any way, I can go through the whole night and just spend the entry fee when everyone else has forked over £20+ getting drunk.

Btw, you didn't make it clear, is this a like "I'm an alchoholic and I need help to quit" or is it "I drink occaisionally but only to keep myself amused at social gatherings, what advice do you have for occupying yourself at parties when you are sober?".

I've known people who drank non alcoholic beer to give up on alcohol and eventually they transitioned to just other drinks.
I honestly find nights I go out and don't drink to get increasingly boring/annoying as the night goes on. Eventually people reach a point where conversations are no longer interesting but turn into stupid rants or jokes that you really won't enjoy unless you're in the same state. And being the only one not drinking can really suck because for some reason people expect you to be the responsible one.
