Get people to check up on you. Not about the smoking, just get some visitors goings. Keeps you in check.

Also, find everything you were procrastinating and just do that shit.

Change your entire lifestyle up a bit. Be creative. Smoking is a routine thing, and if you just do something entirely different it might help.

Don't consider yourself a failure if you smoke one once in awhile. Just be proud it's a ton less than you used to. Quiting entirely is hard. Accept that

People who are saying "Just don't smoke anymore" apparently don't realize what an addiction is.

Anyway, I had a friend who quit smoking a while back and he liked chewing on cinnamon sticks to help ease him through it. They also give you something to toy with in your hands, since smokers seem to need that feeling too. (Plus they're good for your digestion!)

Apparently you'll also be coughing up some nasty shit for the next few weeks.

Quitting is easy, it's not starting again that's hard.

It's tough but it's all about willpower. That's all you really can know.

Just do it cold turkey... I just quit smoking last week after smoking for 6 years. Will power is easy to find. Consider the fact that people suffer from cancer everyday, and people are literally starving right now. How insignificant do your little problems seem after considering that.

If you really can't pass a small test such as quitting smoking you know you don't deserve the life you live in luxury, and yes slowly killing yourself with cigarettes is a life of luxury.

How the hell is this hard? I quit cold turkey after 8 years and there was nothing difficult about it. It's like anything you set out to do in life: You decide on a course of action and then you follow through, and you don't need a damn crutch (patch, gum etc) to do it.
Congratulations on your decision, by the way.

EDIT:
If you need extra incentive, here's something one of my teachers did: Whenever he really felt like having a smoke, he'd put [amount of money needed to buy a pack of cigs] in a piggybank. I still see the dude today driving around his swanky motorcycle he bought with that money.

I read this book about quitting smoking. And I know that it might not work for everybody, but here are a few tips form the book anyway:

1. Tell yourself that it feels great to be free from cigarettes, instead of telling yourself that you need to summon the willpower to stay away from smoking. See, if you're trying the will-power method, you're telling yourself "I have to stay away from smokes even though I'd like to smoke so bad, and even though it'd feel so good to." Instead, tell yourself that you don't need any willpower to quit, since you hate smoking and it doesn't take willpower to stay away from things you hate.

2. Don't use nicotine stamps. Don't cut down gradually. Don't do anything that sends the message that you still need your nicotine. Instead, quit cold turkey and tell yourself it feels great to be free.

3. Whenever you see people smoking, think to yourself "Poor guys, still helplessly stuck. I'm so glad I'm not."

4. Whenever you feel you've got to have a cigarette, keep telling yourself that you're free now and that you're glad you are.

First just dont smoke, than distrack your self with games, and then after a week or so when you'll most want it chew gum instead of smoking.

For context: I have never smoked, but I have seen people who do and have tried to quit.

1. I'm not sure I would try cold turkey, but good luck with it. I do hope it works.

2. Find something to do with your hands. Supposedly this is one of the harder parts of the habit to break.

3. Remind yourself how expensive those things are.

4. You can do it!

Eat an apple whenever you crave a cig, and if you get addicted to that in its place at least it will markedly improve your health.

I did this recently myself, the last cancer stick I had was last march.

What I had to do was get rid of all my lighters, cigs and matches. I picked up running on a regular basis (4 times a week) and I bought a lot of those little fruity Popsicle things that you can buy in the liquid form and throw in the freezer as a substitute. Above all I just had a lot of support from my buddies and family. Can't say too much more about it, just good luck to you.

I have a good feeling that you can quit easily given your age and the number of years that you've been smoking.

I've quit smoking before 3 times, I always go cold turkey and in my experience its all just about will power. Just don't smoke, simple as that.

I heard that taking your smokes and tearing them apart should be a good motivational boost.

If you're unemployed, and British, I'd advise you getting Zyban off the NHS, largely because it's worked for three of my mates.

If you're absolutely dead set on not using drugs, then just find something else to do. Good luck, man.
