This will be the first anime convention I am going to... I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I have heard many stories about 'stuff' lol. I was asked to go with a few friends after they heard I've never been to one so I thought I'd take a shot and go somewhere new -shrugs-
So Escapists, I hear my friends beeping the horn outside for me to get ready and go, but I would like to know; Have any of you gone to any kind of convention? If so, what convention was it and what was your experience? Did you enjoy yourself?
I'll comment back about how I liked it as soon as I return. Wish me luck...?

You seem pretty 'meh', let me assure you that this is unacceptable at an anime convention. Full pep and vigor is required, especially if you want to make it out alive.

I've been going to cons since I was 16 and have 8 under my belt at this point. My advice is: if you cosplay (at least halfway decently) you will get hugged; you will see a huge variety of things you've probably never seen before; if you're a gamer you will probably make friends in the games room; panels can be hijacked and go on the most random tangents at a moment's notice; dodgeball is dangerous; merch is overpriced but soooo cool; and the raves are psychotic. I've stayed at the hotel it was hosted at for a few, and you'll see lots of cosplayers all over, but the 'normal' people can and will often be huge assholes to you if you are cosplaying. Oh, and going to restaurants in cosplay is the best- I tip based on reactions of the waitresses.

I can't really think of anything else at the moment. I love cons. I'm going as Kirakishou to Colossalcon this coming year.

I've been to Supanova and Manifest, pretty much the only good comic/anime cons Australia has. I was mainly there to buy shit and meet friends.
I have friends who cosplay. I have friends who organise the cosplay events. Hell, I have a friend who's the anime brand manager for Madman Entertainment.
These people all got something out of these conventions I never did... which is probably why they're still going to them and I stopped in 2003.

I enjoyed the three days so much. I maybe going to Colossalcon in June as well. That is if my friend still would like to go xD.

It was fun!

You seem undeserving to go to this, if your not going to get excited don't go and let someone who wants to go occupy that space you seem to be wasting.

Just lighten up and have fun. Even if you aren't the biggest fan of anime, you are going to a place with lights, color, weird nerds in costumes, music, and basically interesting stimulation in general. Laugh at the stuff that just seems ridiculous to you, but don't be an asshole about it, don't go there with a "meh" attitude, be open-minded, let yourself get into it. Pretend you are a cultural anthropologist on a trip to assimilate into some strange foreign culture in order to learn about it.

Relax and have as much fun as you can there. You won't regret going if you let yourself be swept away by the riptide of con spirit.
