All I can say is that when you stop hating everything you've ever written, you should stop writing. You can always do better, and do so by miles. As soon as you forget that, you can say good-bye to quality.
Dammit. I finally wrote an ending I really liked.

Time to retire....:'(

Hey, I'm no writer, but try getting into game writing. There's been a bit of a shortage in creativity in that department lately. Go in there and make me a story that ties together Chrono Trigger and HL2.
This. This a thousands times, this.

i like to write short stories. I have alot of ideas in my head, but i have trouble actually sticking with them. For instance, i have an idea for a fantasy stories. Yes it uses somewhat cliche story elements that so many other fantasy authors used, but i dont care.

I have been given advice by one of my most beloved teachers. He said just keep writing, its ok if you hit a block, but just make sure you go back to it.

Why write novels when you can write computer code? It's like a play, where all the actors follow your instructions directly!

This might sound like complete and utter bullshit... but try listening to music that has a big emotional impact on you. It's a great way of generating meaningful and thoughtful narrative ideas, and it'll "set the mood" inside your head, allowing for directed creativity. All you have to do is translate whatever you come up with into text. No easy task by any measure, but that's the mark of a good writer: someone who can weave emotional depth into mere words, and attract a reader's psychological investment. Successfully make the reader feel what the protagonist feels, and they'll be completely immersed.

Trust me, music can be a useful (albeit slightly unconventional) psychologically-influential tool.

And yeah, you'd be smart to listen to others that have posted already, as many of them are speaking from personal experience.

Pah! Looks like you're off your game! Smack yourself about the chops, mail it to somebody who knows somebody, and then think about what a horrible mistake you just made while they gush over it. It's what works for me!
