I'm more of a Heavy/Speed/Thrash fan, but i'll give it a go:

Try the old Amorphis, old Moonspell and old Therion albums
Those are the bands that turned crappy.
Of course there's some that are still good:

Asphyx
Ares Kingdom
Bolt Thrower (by far the best DM band ever)
Carcass
Dissection (more of a mix between elodic black and melodic DM)
Dead Congregation (Death/Doom metal)
Grotesque
Hail of Bullets
Hooded Menace
Kaamos
Morbid Saint (Death/Thrash metal)
Morbosidad (Black/Death)
Necrophobic (avoid their live shows though)
Necros Christos
Nightbringer
Nunslaughter
Ofermod
Possessed
Repugnant

Uuuuh... sorry I cant be more helpful. Death Metal all sounds the same to me but from what I hear the best death metal comes from norwegian bands. *shrug*

I think your mistaken, there is little Death Metal within Norway that i have found.

However neighboruing Sweden and Finland have lots of good Death Metal pumping out.

Check out this band, Blotted Science, no vocals though: Also:
Amon Amarth
Arch Enemy
Behemoth
Cannibal Corpse
Children of Bodom
Death
Dimmu Borgir
Dying Fetus
Ensiferum
Kalmah
Meshuggah
Necrophagist
Opeth
Wintersun

Not all of it is strictly Death Metal, but hopefully you like it.
Children Of Bodom,Meshuggah,Arch Enemy,Amon Amarth,Dimmu Borgir,Kalmah,Ensiferum and Opeth are not Death Metal, some of them have traits of Melodeath, but that is a bad place to start listening to actual Death Metal, as Melodeath is a commercial attempt at Death Metal, its really just a bunch of bands chugging away at a guitar, without playing any real Death Metal riffs.

Meshuggah doesnt have any Death Metal Riffs, Ensiferum is Folk/Power metal, and Opeth riffs are much more Black Metal/Progressive than Death metal.
I said that not all of it was strictly Death Metal, but I was hoping that the OP would enjoy it anyway. So while I agree with you about the bands not being Death Metal, I will disagree with you when you say Melodeath is just bands chugging away at guitar. I don't see how bands like Bodom and Ensiferum are just bands chugging away at a guitar.

I'll admit that I have barely heard any Meshuggah though but what I have heard of them reminded me of Death Metal.

But CoB and Ensiferum still dont have Death Metal riffs.

And i love Meshuggah, own 5 of their albums, they dont have Death Metal riffs either.
True true, but I never necessarily said they had Death metal riffs, I just posted them hoping the OP would like them as they have some traits of Death Metal in their music.

Whatever though, they are all great bands, straight up Death Metal or not. :p

Carcass.
Carcass is all you need. Seriously.

Okay...
Carcass, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower. Those are the essentials.

If you ask me, Cannibal Corpse are pure shit.

I like the way you think.
I'll add:
Obituary
Cancer
Sentenced (North from Here album)
Unleashed
Occult
Vader

And for other bands that I think you might like:
Legion of the Damned
Demolition Hammer
Devian
Witchery
Nocturnal Breed

I like the Gothenburg kind of death metal still. Like In Flames or Skyfire. Give those a try!

I recently got into a weird band, which supposedly makes "Melodic Power Progressive Death Metal".

I know, right? Anyways, the band's name is Kiuas, and they're pretty awesome. Oh, and Children of Bodom.
