7)Finally, go alliance.
Because we have night elves and werewolves :)

Ignore this fool, go horde, we have moocows and zombies!
HORDE! FUCK YEAH!

Anyways, I really wish WoW was less than 15 bucks a month, I'd probably play it more....
Psh, Horde are little better than Kobolds and Gnolls. Be a man, go Alliance!

And on a serous note and in all honesty, I say ignore wowhead and leveling guides or anything else unless you're really stuck. Sites like those devolve the game into numbers and statistics which, while essential for end-game-super-serious raiding, only clusters up the low levels with necessary complexities.

Back when I was a kid we played WOW without mods or addons and we didn't have no fancy wowhead or thottbot, we had to figure it out ourselves, and we liked it that way. Kids these days!

I downloaded the trail today with my friend, and thinking of buying the full game (A game card), So my question to the escapists this evening is...any tips for a starting player?

Whats your good and bad experiences of Wow?

Whens the best time to buy any expansion pack for the game?
Here's a few helpful websites:

http://www.wowhead.com/ for general item/boss/other info.
http://www.curse.com/ for WoW Addons.
http://ding80.com/ A free and very efficient way to reach level 80 fast, and presumably 85 once he gets info on that.

Those are the websites I used when I played WoW. They help a lot. Especially Ding80. :)
That 3rd site wont help much with the world shattered ;)

IMO, don't get overly into the game early on. Just have fun, try new classes out, don't care about geting to max level or knowing every aspect as fast as possible.

Just enjoy the game while its new, without taking it seriously or anything.

I say that because your first half a year on wow is going to be the best, it's going to be where you get most of your funny stories and make a good bit of friends.

When you hit max level or get close, then you will pretty much have to get serious into the game, and everything will make more sense the closer you are the end, so don't force that on yourself when the game is just a fun little get away.

Really, screwing up in wow is actually really fun, and it teaches you more than some guy on a guide site saying 'get this item/talent/ go level here' because it provides a 2% bonus over something else.

Handy tip: Meet as many people as possible. Soloing is fun, but try to play in groups if you can. Not only will you learn how classes work together, you'll also establish contacts for later in the game, when grouping is required to tackle some content. From level 15 up you can also start doing dungeons, which give great loot and require you to group up and work together. The earlier you get used to, say, protecting your healer from angry ogres, the easier you'll have it later on.

Don't get into guild raiding... it ruins your life... Stick to 5 man, PUG raids, arena, and battlegrounds and you will have the time of your life.

Um well starting the game out now you will find it pretty deserted as you grind and grind away, because everyone already has top level characters. Grouping for the lowbie dungeons and such will be nigh impossible.
It actually hasn't been that hard lately, which has been a huge surprise for me. Even DPS it usually only took 3-4 minutes to get a group at low levels.

That said, this is an excellent time to start. There's going to be a flood of new characters starting today as there are some huge changes happening. As people have said, there are sales on: Original and Burning Crusade expansion are 4 Pounds each, Wrath of the Lich King expansion is 8. Getting the original and Burning Crusade at least is very much recommended, though I am a sucker for Blood Elf paladins.

In-game stuff:

Consider your general playing preferences. Do you like playing a glass cannon? A tank? Either way, I'd suggest going DPS (maximizing damage) for your first character: It's a bit harder to get groups for dungeons through the built-in system, but they are easier to play and people won't blame you if things go wrong.

At level 10 you get to choose a specialization (these can be reset later for a small but increasing fee), which really define what your character does. As I said, I suggest DPS for your first character (they have a small sword to the right of their title), but other than that just pick what seems fun. At level 15 you get access to the Dungeon Finder - use it. Dungeons are great for getting better stuff and are what end-game is all about. They're also an excellent way to level as you gain xp much faster, though they can get pretty repetitive.

I wholeheartedly recommend a Paladin or a Mage. Mages are glass cannons and damage specialists, and if you go Arcane they are also quite simple to play.

My favourite profession combination is Skinning and Mining. You earn plenty of money fast with hardly any effort, though they are admittedly not all that exciting.

Edit: If you're willing to play on Stormscale, I'll be rolling a new (Horde) character today if you've got any questions while you play.

Tips? hahahah don't play it.

Jk.
It's good fun once you hit 80 (soon to be 85), problem is, if you're an irregular player as I was, it'll take aaaaaaaaaaaages.

I'm just glad I got rid of it. Even though I wasn't in a serious raiding guild, I found it was something I wasted a lot of my spare time on, spare time I'll never get back. :S

Actually one word of advice I'd have, don't get a Death Knight Character until you hit level 80 with at least one toon.

I didn't do that, and I felt I ruined the game for myself playing the most common dps class that is heavily scrutinsed against because of how many noobs play it, thinking they're capable of tanking when they're wearing ret pally gear and are using polearms, and when they can't pull high enough dps either they rage about why they're being kicked from the group.

Srs.

But anyway, that's my advice.

Recruit a friend is awesome. I had a fresh start 3 weeks ago and we just killed lich king last week. This option would require a friend who would be interested in leveling with you for the first 60 levels. For me and my friend it took 3 days. Recruit a friend offers you and the person who recruited you 300% bonus exp when you're in the same group with him. So it's best he also starts leveling with you.

Socialize. The game gets boring fast if you don't have a guild or friends to do stupid stuff with.

PvP is horrible at the moment so i would advice to level up and start PvP:ing at level 85 since (hopefully) things will be more balanced.

PvE is in my opinion the most enjoyable part of the game and you should try to find nice guild to atleast try PvE with.

Pick a class you will enjoy. I know it's hard at the start but think what you want to do in the endgame and will this class offer what you want.
