I can see a co-op in Metro 2 working, but I would rather have some more improvements made to the single player.

For comparison, look at The Darkness 1 and 2; Darkness 1 had a pretty decent and engaging single player experience. Darkness 2 had a single player that was good in some areas while also suffering a bit from tedious and unmemorable enemy encounters. The co-op was more or less the same.

Basically what I'm saying is I don't want Metro 2 to suffer in gameplay, both for single player and co-op.

A lot people wont buy a game unless it has multiplayer, so pubs shoehorn it in. Just like a lot of people wont buy a game if it is too hard or complicated, so games are tuned it to the mainstream. I hope it works out for them, but Metro was a minor hit because it was different.

But minor hits (1-2 million) aren't what big pubs are looking for, they want big hits (>5 million), and big hits need tuned difficulty and co-op. & from what I've read, 4A games is looking a making metro a big hit.
