So my faith in BioShock: Infinite is now restored!

I've been an absolute diehard fan of BioShock since soon after the first one was released.
I was 12 years old when the first one came out and I was as enthralled as I was horrified when I finally played it.

I loved the second just as much (though I understand some fans were let down by its expectations) and was head-over-heels when Infinite was announced... about 2 years ago.

A few months of press releases, magazine issues, and interviews went by... and then silence.

There was a tad hush here and there but for the better part of a year, the game was all quiet.
And then some saddening articles, some on this site, come out saying staff was being laid off, art directors were leaving, and multiple release pushes started to shake my faith.

Yep.
Now I'm officially hyped.

What about you, Escapists?? Are you still excited for this title?
I sure as hell am.

Edit: Appearently people have a problem with a 12 year old playing BioShock, so here is a post in reply that I already posted to a user who had this suprised response:

Well, to be perfectly honest I was actually raised, well I guess I am still being raised, in a faithful religious home. It's not like my parents are unaware of it. If my parent sees it and thinks I'm mature enough... then what the hell, just go at it.
Lol I didn't even want the game when I was first exposed to it. Hah, I was actually too scared to play it but after a while I heard how great it was so I played it and loved it.

I'm a straight A honors student 4.1 and well on my way to a scholarship at University of Utah and/or BYU with many friends and fairly athletic (MvP Defensive End throughout Middle School) so I guess playing BioShock at 12 didn't do much.

Sorry, I guess some people just mature faster :p

I never lost any excitement for this title, have been constantly anticipating it, should be amazing. The one thing I don't understand is why you don't break your arm/shoulder when hooking onto those rails but I'm not one to give a shit about realism so who cares.

I am not still excited by the title.

I was always waiting for it in the first place. They better take their time and try not to rush it, thougt.

One year without much word on a game? Pah. Try being eager for Final Fantasy Versus XIII for more than a couple months. Now THAT is faith-shaking.

OT: Infinite is definitely my most anticipated game now (that I know will be coming out in the relatively near future, anyway--see above). At first I was iffy on it because of the big departure from the first game (no Rapture, first and foremost), but now I realize that ultimately it's a wise choice. BioShock 2 failed as a sequel due to attempting to run with the amazing environment established in the first game. Plus creating Columbia encourages people to judge Infinite on its own merits, not just on whether it triumphs in relation to the original BioShock. It may or may not be as good, but I believe it'll reach its own potential and be an incredible experience. I'm also very excited to observe the political aspects of the game. Since Columbia, unlike Rapture, appears to be in its prime rather than smouldering in aftermath, I'm hoping we the players will get a more active role in the proceedings.

While I was a little disappointed that the release date got pushed back from late October, which would have made it perfectly in time for my birthday, I know that the game will benefit from the extra development time.

I was when it was first announced but now...

For me it just looks like a unique FPS game with no horror to be found...but that doesn't mean I won't buy it later because it looks fun as heck. :p

To be honest, that trailer was very 'meh' for me.
Maybe it's the music, maybe it's the mostly standard looking gameplay, whatever it is, it just doesn't get me excited.

For me this is a definite first day purchase, but my excitement for the game has bottomed out. Irrational hyped up their game so much when they announced it I actually got sick of hearing it. When delays started following the hype I decided to let the game go and focus on other titles in the mean time. I'm looking forward to it, but until we get to the two week until release time frame, I won't be giddy like I was.

Despite the somber tone, I am looking forward to it when the time draws closer.

This doesn't really seem like a Bioshock game to me. It still looks fun, but it seems like Saints Row in a way, going over the top with the action

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different from the first two

Definitely not a day 1 purchase for me, but then again I'm not one of those people who would declare Bioshock one of the greatest games ever made. I'll have to read up on it when it comes out. I do appreciate them using actual in-game footage for the trailer though, and not pre-rendered crap that that game will never look/play like.

so i am very exited for this but why would this trailer make your loins stir? all the unique-looking aspects we already saw in other trailers or in the original Bioshock and the bits i hadn't seen before were just standard shooter fair.
oh and it is just action scenes cut together, cod trailer should look like that because the game has nothing else to show but bioshock? show some quite moments ffs.

As Yahtzee would probably say they've left themselves with nowhere to go. What's next Bioshock Infinity plus one?

In fact why is it even called Bioshock anything? How is this connected to the first 2 games?

Same developers, same basic gameplay of "magic" (plasmids/tonics) and guns, the same focus on deconstructing political ideals and making the game take place in a fantastic alternate history setting. While it probably won't be connected storywise (but who knows?), it still seems to share much of its' basic framework with the first two games.

I see your FF Versus XIII and I raise my Kingdom Hearts 3. Check and mate.

OT: I've liked Bioshock from afar. I don't know why I never got around to buy the first game. I played it for like 5 hours and I liked it. But that's all.
But when i saw Infinite, I just fell in love with it. Sure, it sucks that it keeps getting pushed back but I guess that's a good sign. Better than to have a rushed, mediocre game.

I was going to pre-order but all the in game extras turned out to be tonics which seems kind of crap. I think its all the trouble the company has had with its talent leaving which implies that the management is doing something seriously dodgy with the schedule. I'm not getting it until I see gameplay reviews.
