So my sneezes rarely actually sound like "achoo"...

Some serious randomness afoot, but I've been pondering this imponderable for the past half hour. Why is "achoo" considered to be a sneeze? It hardly ever sounds like that.

Mine is always a bit like "Khnssss" or "Pshwah" or particularly powerful ones go into the territory of "Wahbkerrrrg".

Must be one of the craziest threads I ever made in my life, ever, but are there actually people who regularly sneeze like, "achoo"? I don't know any...

My sneezes sound like a inhalation ("ahh") followed by an explosive "ch". So I guess I'm just missing the "oo".

I have heard people make "achoo" sounds. Usually girls for some reason.

I remember once I was sitting an exam in a room with several hundred people and in the tense, frantic silence some chick sneezed. It was a high-pitched "ahh-tyew" sound. Sounded like something you'd expect to come out of a hamster. Everyone in the room started laughing. Did wonders to ease the tension.

Oh, and I once saw a childhood friend get sneezed on by a horse. I don't really remember the sound, I just remember the veritable shower of equine snot that accompanied it.

That's my sneeze too, but usually just the "choo" part. Mine are really high pitched and dumb sounding, and I am made fun of for them. There's also usually like 100 of them at a time because I'm allergic to every single thing that is contained within the state of Texas.

"Pt'chooooooohhh!!", with such a velocity that it looks like I've just been coldly sniped through the window.

It's thankfully rather rare that I do sneeze.

I tend to be relatively varied. I never know what sound I'm gonna make.

Most recently, I think I made a sound like: "Aah-chah" or something.

I'm not actually sure what my sneezes sound like. It does depend on if I'm holding it in or just letting it flow. Sure my letting it flow ones go, "Choooo"

Mine sound like "Aah... aaaah... Choo!"
Or "Achoo!" Very classic but very loud.

I figured from the people around me that "Achoo" was the standard and I just had a volume issue, though I guess I never really thought about it hard enough to actually observe other people in the first place. So now I have no idea where my assumption came from.

Mine is pretty standard sounding, although I used to hold sneezes in for some reason so it would sound like "ah-ckk" or something like that.

However, my favorite odd sneeze comes from a girl I knew in high school. Hers went like "ah-hoom-weee!" It was always so loud, and the class would always crack up, good times had by all. :D

I sneeze very hard. No idea what it would actually sound like because I never paid attention to it, but when I sneeze, my arm/elbow/shoulder starts hurting. It's not fun. :(

Nah. Achoo is just the easiest onomatopoeia for it because of the way the mouth tends to move when we sneeze. I too haven't met a single person that naturally "achoo"s. I tried doing it on purpose once; it was difficult if you can believe that.

Mine are more like "heck-CHEEEHH", or sometimes "hit-snkkkkkk" because I sometimes stifle them (which I hear is quite bad for you, but shut up, sometimes my hands are full and I can't cover).

I make the typical achoo sound, BUT IN EXPLOSION FORM!
I pity the normal people that are around me when I sneeze. For them it would be the same as standing near an A-bomb when it explodes!

I've heard of a case of someone sneezing so hard, that he broke his ribs. Think it was a friend of my family.

I can't really describe what my sneezes sound like. All I know is that they are very messy. And I tend to freak out a bit when it happens in public because I don't want people to see the snot all over my nose and shirt sleeve.

I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN YOU, ESCAPISTS!

ALL OF YOU!

...and none of you did!

OT: My uncle's sneezes are short and go from low pitched to a high pitch. My brother finds this to be absolutely hilarious for some reason.

I used to have a Science teacher that'd sneeze like that. He'd stop talking, cover his mouth and just kinda shout. It took him a week of having a cold for me to realise that was him sneezing.

As for my sneeze, I'm not sure how to sound it out. It kinda starts with an "Ahh" and converts into some weird snort. Kinda like the snort horses make.
My sister's sneeze is a straight up "Achoo" though. It's kinda funny how clearly she says the phrase.

A lot of people will mistake my cough (Kgh-ha!) for a sneeze which confuses me more than anything. When I actually do sneeze it isn't so much an 'achoo' as it is an "TSH-AAAAH!" or some other slight variation on that roar.

There are some adorable people who claim to sneeze even though what they actually do is go " 'chu" in a very quiet, high-pitch sort of voice.
