So my Xbox 360 exploded.

I own both, and ever since I bought my PS3 over three years ago I have hardly touched the 360 at all. In my opinion the PS3 beats the 360 in everything except for the controller.

Yeah the store just seems to get more complicated with each update, I miss when it was just "New this week" "PS+" or browsing by genre or w/e rather than having to go through 4 or 5 menus to get to anything.

Also gutted, never owned an xbox, I've never felt compelled to own one tbh the exclusives don't appeal and I don't like the controller as much as the PS3.

It is kinda annoying how few sensible people who you can strategise with have headsets but on the plus side it's great how many 10 year old retards pumped full of energy drinks don't have headsets (not a shot at the xbox userbase, we have them on the PS3 too, just less of them and they're less likely to have a headset.

Mine died three years ago. I never looked back. I love the exclusives and the free online play on the ps3.

Living in europe there`s no problem with the online play. I guess it`s less ps3 players in the united states. Microsoft is bigger than Sony there.

Of course, when "free online" comes at the cost of security (and by extension having it taken offline for 24 days), the lack of fair/similar promotions when compared to its rivals [http://www.slashgear.com/eas-mass-effect-3-online-multiplayer-events-barred-on-ps3-15222970/], so-called "firmware patches" that don't seem to fix the complaints that players have, thirteen-hour maintenance times [http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2403064,00.asp], continuously gets content weeks after the 360, and that it's on individual game developer's to incorporate their own VOIP due to a hardware limitation, I'd say I'm pretty damn glad I didn't get one.

I'm a logical guy, and the logic didn't match up for me to buy a PS3. (Granted, a lot of things have changed since I went hunting for my first "next-gen" console)

For starters, you couldn't choose whether or not you wanted the Blu-Ray drive, which drove the cost up for me because I was not interested in Blu-Ray movies.

The other issue I have is the insane PS3 controller. For starters, I take great issue with the use of pressure-sensitive tactile buttons where the range-of-motion of a trigger is far more useful. Gran Turismo 5 (which was the disappointment of a lifetime for me seeing how much I adored GT2 for the PSX) decides to use the "X" button for acceleration instead of the full range of motion provided by the trigger. In a realistic racing game, you need throttle control, and no matter how pressure-sensitive the buttons are, a trigger is simply better. I also much rather prefer the trigger setup for FPS games, tapping a button to shoot seems strange to me (I assume most games let you change this now, but the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 that I played seemed to use R1/L1 as Aim/Shoot). All in all, if all of that is indeed fixable, I just can't understand how anyone would find the PS3 controller comfortable. The 360 controller contours to my hand and is comfortable to hold for long periods of time.

The other issue for me is reliability. One of my best buds from high school bought a PS3 soon after I purchased a 360 almost 5 years ago (The original 120 GB Elite, if anyone remembers), and paid $200 more than I did. In the past 5 years, that thing has made 7 trips to various servicing centers, consistently encountering what PS3 users know to be the Yellow Light of Death (Not sure what this is, but it was a real problem, whatever it was) whereas my 360 has run strong (and loud, to be fair) without any issues. The closest thing I've had to an issue with it (and I use it for LONG amounts of time, mind you) is from my own stupidity; in my frustration to plug in a USB keyboard, I bent the front port's pins, and because one of the pins was touching the metal of the console, its failsafe kicked in and prevented itself from booting to avoid a short. After using tweezers to remove the offending part, everything was just fine.

I love my 360. I don't know what issues others seem to have with the console, but if you treat it properly, clean it out every so often, never touch it while a disk is spinning, and make sure it's well ventilated, it will treat you well.

Honestly, I like the PS3 a lot more. I have reasons, too. It's a lot more powerful, I do prefer the UI, it's quieter, and now the important reasons: I can watch all my movies on it. I like the controller more. (I love the original Xbox's controller, and the 360 is just a bit different, and it makes me uncomfortable) Also, free online play.

I've never understood anyone's problem with the 360. I've had mine for 3 years, and even bought it refurbished, but it's never had a single issue. I still play it on my upstairs TV, while I got a slim for my downstairs one. I would have sold it, but apperently refurbished 360s are only worth like 20$...
That said though, my GameCube still holds my record as most reliable system. The thing's made of freaking titanium or something.

Not ideal to be sure, but I can't really see blaming them for trying to fix something they didn't know was a problem, and occasionally(like once every couple months?) taking the time to go through and do thorough maintenance.

continuously gets content weeks after the 360,
Uh... There's actually just about an equal amount of content PS3 gets BEFORE 360.

Because it's simply shouldn't be optional..... It's how they manage to store games like RAGE on one disc so you don't have to uninstall the first half and then install the second half.
And just generally they don't have to worry about running out of space for huge games like Skyrim (which they sadly decided to keep cut down so it would fit on a single 360 disc) or Metal Gear Solid 4.

The other issue I have is the insane PS3 controller. For starters, I take great issue with the use of pressure-sensitive tactile buttons where the range-of-motion of a trigger is far more useful.
......L2 and R2 are triggers.....

So really you just have a problem with developers doing stupid button-mapping, and maybe not giving you the proper option to remap the way you want it?

The 360 controller is so awkwardly shaped and the inane d-pad/analog stick flip is just retarded. Maybe if you have tiny midget hands or something it might be comfortable, but my huge mitts can't stand it. It's almost as bad as the Dreamcast controller.

Your experience with reliability seems to put you in the EXTREME minority.

It exploded? Seriously? Ka-boom?

I don't care much for suing companies or anything, but if the product they sold you literally 'explodes' maybe you should take up the obvious safety issue. Was there a fire or anything?

Who knows, maybe my xbox committed suicide when it found out what game I put inside.
Ok, so just out of sheer curiosity ... which game did you put inside?

It would be funny if it was Duke Nukem Forever. So hellbent on denying itself to the world it bricks consoles.

I'm considering getting a new one off of ebay.
Be really careful there, ANY 2nd hand console is a risk (working condition or not) because there is quite a few in the used market that are xbox live banned consoles. When a user receives a console ban (for modding and whatnot) it locks the console from xbox live but you wouldn't know because the console still works until you try to get online with it.

If you're from the UK you could easily get a new Xbox360 for free since it's warranty wouldn't have run out due to it being classed as a consumer durable under EU law. Consumer durables are expected to last quite a few years, 3-4 if I'm not mistaken and Xbox360 could technically class as a high end DVD player and therefore a consumer durable. Happened to me when my PS3 broke and they said my warranty had expired, so I just quoted that little law and got a new slim PS3 with a copy of Little Big Planet because the retailer is still bound by EU law.

The only thing Xbox 360 has going for it in my opinion is Alan Wake and Deadly Premonition. It's other exclusives just seem like watered down versions of better games, so I prefer Ps3s Library. It's also nice not having to pay for online play, unlike 360 where you not only pay to play but have to deal with advertisements plastered on your dash.

Own all 3 dont really have a preference or didnt I should say now I generally go for the PS3 over the 360 because mine red ringed (I fixed it but dont want to tempt fate if it goes again I will not replace it) most of the games released are not exclusives so it dosent really matter.

Microsoft offers a better online service (if you want to play with friends) but of course you have to pay for it and for the amount I use it that is definitely not worth it. For reliability I would go with PS3 its not brilliant but its a damn sight more reliable than a 360 if thats not a factor just roll a dice 1-3 PS3 4-6 360.

I have everything. I dont mean to flaunt it, im just saying i have all 3 consoles, and decent PC.
Ooh, Look at Alan Sugar here with his wide dispersal of investments :p
Nah, If I had money I'd do it to.
Then shoot the wii and ps3 because I'm a fanboy.
Honestly, the PS3 i got half off. Back when i lived with my uncle ((basically my father)) he wanted a bluray player, and i said i wouldnt mind a PS3, so we went 50/50 on it. And the Wii i bought from a friend who was moving out of state and needed money. ((i gave him 30$ more then what gamestop was going to buy it for))

The only console ive purchased at full price was my PSP. And i think its my favorite thing to play games on. (other then my PC of course.)

Just saying, but I have a xbox 360: I don't play online and I never had to replace it.

The PS3 has no "killer" advantage over the xbox. I chose xbox because it was cheaper and games are cheaper where I live. If it didn't have that advantage it would be a coin flip or chose the exclusives you wanted.

I think it all pretty much comes down to which exclusives you prefer. The consoles are pretty much even so just go with whichever console has the most exclusives you want.

Hey, my Xbox can do fucking gymnastics. It just does not give a fuck. I have seriously had that thing fall while running like five times and it still keeps running like a champ. My Fallout 3 however is lost forever to the foolish actions of a close friend. Who seriously adjusts a console while a game is running? Hilariously enough I've had other games survive worse though. My friend's Dead Space survived a three foot fall in the Xbox while it was running.
While I'm definitely amazed in the fact that it hasn't keeled over, I'm questioning how in god's name did it find itself in those situations? I'm still laughing over it!

Now, I gotta ask, are you being metaphorical with the term exploded? If not, why no pictures?

I like the PS3 better since the two Xboxes I've owed have both got cases of the Ringles. Xboxes just feel cheap.

That said, my PS3 pisses me off frequently. Like how I have to update it every couple hours, the lackluster PSN store (the store itself, not the titles) and the fact that it won't save multiple wifi settings (does Xbox?) ect.
It just hasn't committed suicide because I forgot to cuddle it before sleeping.

On a side note, I think it's odd that during the hardware changes of both systems the PS3 went from touch sensitive buttons, to normal buttons, while the Xbox went from normal (albeit shitty) buttons to extremely sensitive touch buttons.
Not exactly, kind of sort of. It was within a small period of time in which I was playing, I heard a loud popping noise, and for about a few seconds small flames and smoke left the vents of the system, my room smelled of burnt metal. To my surprise though nothing was black or burnt inside (excluding the dvd drive), however it refuses to turn on. I also had to work that day and by the time I came back the trash truck had already arrived and done it's deed. Thanks mom...
