Mighty Switch Force on the eShop is fun
Animal Crossing looks promising
Haven't played it but Luigi's Mansion looks hella fun. Picking that up when I get paid.
It's not my bag but Fire Emblem is supposed to be excellent if you're into that thing.

Thanks for the suggestions, OK so Fire Emblem: Awakening and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon seem to be popular. What about the 3rd? I was thinking of a Mario game but I don't know which one would be the best "distilled" version that sums the franchise up the best and is a good game in its own right?
Super Mario 3d land is very good, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/9223-Super-Mario-3D-Land-Review.

Monster hunter 3 Ultimate is good if you like interesting boss fights and lots of them with cool progression and reasonably hard difficulty, Ocarina of time is a port but it is a very good one and if you've never played OOT I'd definitely say it's the version to get.

All said, Fire Emblem awakening is one of my favourite games in years. I've invested 60+ hours into it in the last month =/ (It came out 39 days ago here)

I own:
- Luigi's Mansion 2
- Super Mario 3D Land
- New Super Mario Bros. 2
- Star Fox 64 3D
- Ocarina of Time 3D
- Kid Icarus Uprising
- Mario Kart 7
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star

And I'll be buying:
- Animal Crossing
- Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
- Zelda: A Link to the Past II

So I can heartily recommend any of those games.

I haven't played too many of them yet, but I'd have to go with:

1. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
2. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
3. Kid Icarus Uprising

There are a lot of others that are worth your time/money, but those are the three that stand out for me (that I've played so far, mind you).

Fire Emblem: Awakening

It's the only 3DS game I currently have and it's the only one I really need (until SMT IV comes out).

Seriously though, it's a great effing game.

Since no one is mentioning any VC games, I'll throw some out:

Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - color version of the classic zelda adventure and is as great as Link to the Past. seriously, buy this game.
Metroid 2 - not in color (grr.), but otherwise a challenging metroid game, although on the small size.
Mega Man 1-5 (6 is coming eventually i bet) - i don't actually own these, but i love the NES mega man games, so...

remember, you still have access to EVERY SINGLE DS GAME, which include some awesome titles that you probably can get for way cheaper than retail 3DS games and i won't list here as those lists have been done to death. (you can also set the 3DS to display DS games in their native resolution in the top screen, as the upscaling kills some detail, especially on sprite based games, although you'll have black bars on all sides).

SMT 4 is coming out within a month or so.

I'd suggest keeping that game on your radar.

The SMT and Persona series ain't had a bad game yet.
-Well, unless you count the crap on the VB.

1. Fire Emblem: Awakening
2. Fire Emblem: Awakening
3. Fire Emblem: Awakening

In seriousness though, SMT4 and Pokemon X/Y will probably make their way in there when they come out.

Besides Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion...

-Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. One of the best games on the Wii made portable.

-Mario 3D Land. Here's something to keep in mind: It's one of those games that it's easy to get to the end credits, but gets challenging once you start going for 100%, and there is a lot of post-game stuff. That's a big thing in a lot of Nintendo games: the challenge comes not from trying to beat the game but from trying to master the game.

-Kid Icarus Uprising. Controls take a lot of getting used to, but once it clicks it's awesome.

-Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. But before you get it, get the prequel game 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors. Since the 3DS is backwards compatible, you'll still be able to play it.

Well, I'm only going to include non-port games, even though some of those are really good.
1. Fire Emblem: Awakening - First game in the series I've really enjoyed, really fun if you like strategy games.
2. Mighty Switch Force- eShop game that has a great soundtrack and remains fun through pushing for a new record even after completing it once.
3. Kid Icarus Uprising- Basically a Saturday morning cartoon in game form, also a great re-imagining of the property with fun multiplayer.

There is also a giant library of DS games and virtual console games that are great too.

Mario 3D Land is actually probably your best bet for that...
OK thanks, Super Mario 3D land it is, I played a little bit of Mario 64 back in the day and it was fun. The reviews and videos of Super Mario 3D land show a colourful and entertaining platform game, seems worth trying.

No JRPG's? Well there goes Kingdom Hearts 3D, Etryian Odyssey 4, and Shin Megami Tensei 4. You seriously are limiting yourself in terms of amazing games.
Not saying JRPGs are bad or anything I just don't particularly enjoy them, never played one I liked. Even things like Final Fantasy just don't click for me.

Alright the final list is,

-Super Mario 3D land
-Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
-Fire Emblem: Awakening

Thanks for the advice, seems a certain few games seem to stand out. Now to live on beans and toast for a month.

Going with the JRPG rule all I got are Liberation Maiden, and Resident Evil Revelations (if only because it's an RE game that's actually scary and it looks amazing on the 3DS).

Let's see...

Fire Emblem: Awakening
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Super Mario 3D Land
Wouldn't Fire Emblem also be a JRPG?

I'm in a similar predicament, but i was curios if anyone has gotten Castlevania? Is it any good? I played a castlevania game a long time ago on a handheld, and you could absorb abilities and powers from enemies, does this new entry have any similarities to that?

OT:1. Fire emblem
2. Resident evil revelations (picked mine up late so i got it really cheap and feel its worth the money, great 3d effects)
3. Mario kart 7

thats all the games i own right now :/

1. Fire Emblem Awakening (Fucking amazing game... Get it.)
2. Devil Survivor Overclocked.
3. Theatrythm Final Fantasy.
This!

Fire Emblem: Awakening blew me away! I found it to be an amazing strategy with an awesome support system.

Devil Survivor: Overclocked is an enchanced port of a DS game with full voice acting (for almost every bit of dialog) extra skills, demons and even extra story for 3 of 5 ending routes.

Theatrythm Final Fantasy, even if you aren't a fan of the series, this is a top notch rhythm game! If you are a fan, it is a personal love letter to your memories of the games.

I would also like to put Soul Hackers out there as well, a bit dated (as it was remade from a PS1 game) but still very fun. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is excellent, but I think it would be more suited to fans then newcomers. Tales of the Abyss 3D is also awesome if you never played the PS2 version (even then, it is still fun) Kid Icarus is fun and fast paced.

We are also getting Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X & Y, Ace Attorney 5 and Shin Megami Tensei IV, my other gaming platforms are gonna go collect dust while I play these! The 3DS has quickly become my favorite gaming device.
I gotta agree with that. My other consoles barely see any use these days as I'm mostly just playing the 3DS.
