Well so far the world is a little uneasy with N Korea. But now they are pushing it with wanting to test a misile. They claim that it will be for a communications satalite but the maths behind hte missile validates concern. This missile has the capability to hit alaska which may not be important but its US soil. They have also said any attempt to shoot it down will result in war. The US, Southern Republic of Korea and Japan are angered by this and warning them not to launch but its been cleared by the UN. Japan even wants to put an anti missile frigate in the eastern sea.

Personaly I think NK has the right to test its defencive capabilities but test launching an ICBM at this time of tension is going a little too far. What do you think of all this?

With these rumours about Kim Jong Il being dead or struck by a stroke I would assume the regime wants to demonstrate strengh, but such an irritating measure makes it look like the regime is keen on being nuked to the ground(maybe because it would be cheaper than reconstructing the decayed infrastructure).
I still cannot understand this american paranoia towards second class missles of third world countries. One missle could hit Alaska... why should anybody (exept bat-shit crazy movie fundamentalists) do that? An attack with one or a few missles makes no sense from a strategic point of view for any nation. whoever dares such an attack will get his ass bombed or even nuked to pieces.
It's the same with this additional American missle shielding in eastern Europe. It is 'supposed' to defend America from missles from IRAN.Iran is lucky when it gets its small missles and its first nuclear power plant running in the next years of which both would not have been possible without massive russian support. Ahmadinejad gathered more support from neighboring nations and irans population as a leader of resistance against imperialism and it is quite certain that he would no longer be in office today without this campaign.
And Iran is also an organised Nation(parliament etc) with at least a sense of self preservation. This whole bullying just caused a nationalist and conservative backlash there.
Why all the fear?
Well maybe this comes from my perspective, but in Germany we knew for several decades World War 3 would start exactly over our heads and had to live with the possibility.

They're just being annoying because US and South Korea are having their annual military exercise. They'll threaten with war, everyone else will complain to them, then when the military exercise ends NKs shut up and then the whole thing gets repeated again next year.

As a person who came from the country just south of North Korea, I'm always concerned about what my northern neighbors are doing. North Korea could launch an ICBM if they wanted to, but if they did, imagine the consequences. But I doubt North Korea will do anything serious. For some reason this year, they complain about everything. They complain that the water borders aren't fair and that the USA should pull out of South Korea. Just wait and North Korea will stop yelling and go back to saying Kim Jong Il is still alive. (BTW, I believe Kim is still alive, just in serious condition).

From what I hear of NK, it's pretty insane there. Like 1984 insane.
Same.

Like, people starving and dying in the streets but still praising Dear Leader for his grace and wise leadership.

The people deserve better.

Oh well, right?

That's actually a pretty accurate description of how it normally goes with North Korea.

They are happy as long as they remain in the spotlight in the world media. Like Russia, the moment they aren't in the spotlight, they take measures to ensure that we're all staring at them again. Even if it is acting like a spoiled retarded child at times.

Right now, North Korea just wants to be part of the space race. All their neighbors are doing it (China, South Korea, Japan) so why can't they?

*chuckles* just the thought of a serious north korean space programm while they have to fuel the last remaining steam locomotives with old tyres...misplaced ambition? *sigh* what do i know? Maybe this makes perfectly sense.
