If someone has already pointed this out, I did not see it. Anyways, this post contains spoilers for those who have not seen the ending.

I'm going to describe an ending briefly.

In the final installment of a trilogy, the main character, the one whom everything has revolved around meets the omnipotent person who is the root cause of everything. This person then says that the main character is merely part of an unending cycle and that his destiny more or less comes down to pushing the reset button on existence so that a handful of people will rebuild everything and do it all over again.

He is then given a choice; a hollow choice, regardless of what he chooses, almost everybody will die, and his decision, and everything he has done up to this point will not have any impact in the grand scheme of things. Then he fights Agent Smith to the death.

So, am I the only one who sees the startling similarities between the ending of Matrix Revolutions, and Mass Effect 3? It seems rather odd, because this ending did not go over well at all with the matrix fans, so it makes no sense to try duplicating it in another work.

Yeah, they're pretty similar. Both of them attempted to pull a What-The-Fuck Sci-Fi Ending in the classic style, but failed due to lack of consideration of what makes a What-The-Fuck Sci-Fi Ending good. They raised questions, which can work for an ending, but failed to give those questions the proper context earlier in the story, so it just came out of left field for the audience. They also failed to provide anything in the way of closure for the audience, thinking they could retreat into the mantle of What-The-Fuckery, but since that failed too, they were just left with an ending with two major strikes against it.

Oh you're in trouble now. EA is sending an armed squad to your house. You were not supposed to talk about that.
Sorry it took so long to reply; had to fight off some EA ninjas. They weren't very stealthy for ninjas though. They also seemed to leak money when they moved. :p

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who sees the parallels, I guess maybe matrix is old enough that it doesn't immediately come to mind as easily as more recent games like Deus Ex.

Is that how the last Matrix movie ended? I forgot. That movie was pretty much proof positive that more action does not make a film more interesting.
