As someone who works in cons I get how they can be a seething storm of petty drama, often stupid amounts of money and convoluted threads of responsibility are riding on seemingly insignificant things (e.g. tables and chairs and rope barriers) and it takes one part buddha and two parts ***** to ensure smooth operation. Tension and stress all get focused into a few short days and by the end it's always tempting to explode. I'm sure these reasonable adults will work things out, and if not, oh well, stuff happens!

Hm, the word of the founder of the convention, who actually just donated another $10k to Desert Bus last night, and is always open and honest with his fans vs. the word of two Youtube celebrities who have a history of being profane and immature.

Yeah. Let's totally accuse Notch of being an asshole.
youre looking at it wrong the profanity and immaturity of yogscast is a joke and the same goes for notch and his little escapades but notch takes it too far when he does his jokes the yogscast stop

Don't you just love the internet? People take sides without knowing anything about the issue!
This. In fact this is an awesome summary of life.

I dont believe any story so 100% one sided. At least dont post bias statements like this or you are worse than those "reabid fanboys" you talk down to like filth slaves to give yourself a sense of superiority over those who just have a different opinion to you. Yes mr Op your article is 100% right and anyone who says otherwise is a notch fanboy subhuman who should be spat apon and laughed at. Damn people who review a lot of sources and come to a different conclusion to me who only reads one!

I think notch is a bit of a dick for other reasons. However he donated 10k to desert bus so i cant hate the guy too much.

It was proabably a mis understanding between the people who were tired drunk and confused about the situation. Its sad but it happens. This is like the escapist and extra credits all over again. So much goddam ignorance on the issue, so many strong opinions.

I actually think there is a corralation to the amount someone doesnt know about an issue and the strength of the conviction in their arguement.

Turns out notch made it up, yep all of it for no good reason. He sold the rightsof there video without consent and slandered there name. and now notch fanboys are DDOSing their website and losing them subscribers, and notchs response?

"Fair enough"

You've got to be fucking kidding me...... I think a full apology and compensation is in order and notch needs to stop acting like a spoiled celebrity.

well they both have a history of immaturity. I'm willing to bet they both know that this whole thing was just stupid by now.

As for paying for travel, food, ect. No one else got that did they? >.>; Simon an Lewis make alot of money off of youtube. Its not like they cant afford it. Wernt their tickets and rooms free? Rooms alone can be pretty expensive in Las Vegas, especially when there's a convention being held, and rooms can be book ahead of time.
They paid for their own tickets, food, and everything else. Mojang offered them 2 rooms. You can't really do 10 people in 2 rooms.

As to the actual...debacle of this whole situation, I truly believe Notch is in the wrong.

Not because of what happened at the event, not because of what the Yogscast guys did/did not do/said.

He's in the wrong because he made it public without speaking to the possible offenders about the issue. He simply disregarded any decency or fairness and just tried to set his fans against another group without getting all of the facts or any proof.

He may think of himself as just a nerdy guy who programs games, but he isn't anymore. He's the mouthpiece of a multi-million dollar company with a massive amount of fans that hang on his every word. Until he matures or at least learns to use a little foresight, he needs to either shut the hell up or hire a PR manager.

can someone tell me what happened with extra creditz? it seems there was some kind of saga around it at some point.. mind filling me in? please...
*Sighs at the fact I have to do this again* Extra Credits ran a fund raiser so they could pay for their artists arm surgery. Escapist thought that the amount was too high and wanted a cut. Credits said no and left. Escapist either fired them or they left on their own, either way, they just went out of here.

I think it ended very well since no law suits came about.

Notch gave them 0 guidelines and also swears in front of children all the time. Also they made an intentional effort not to swear during their time on stage. Again, just sayin'.
I know, but when they do things like demand to be let into a test area before the public, decide last second to come and no one else got anything from Mojang. Captain Sparkles had to buy a room, they didn't, sure it wasn't ENOUGH but that was the least they could do.

Its just a simple fact, I wouldn't go up to a kid and say "FUCK YOU!" in a angry voice, the kid would be scared bloody shit-less. If they tried to limit it, they did not do it well enough because there were plenty of slurs thrown out and that Mojang owed them for coming *yes, this was / is on record, you can find the interview in question, IN FULL on Youtube.* The only other thing I can say is that they were supposed to be answering questions, outside of all else, thats the only thing that springs to mind as a guideline, just host a booth. Not a show.

They also wouldn't sign autographs till the show and then when people did not get their autographs signed, bluntly "Real fans would have asked to get it signed before the show." I'm not sure if that is true or not, but thats just a iffy thing.

Overall, I take Notch's side through all this, over the simple fact that he apoligized and may have acted childishly, did he back down? Maybe, but he apologized for airing his dirty laundry in public. In a theoretical sense, Yogscast gets paid to do Minecraft videos and therefore without Notch or Minecraft, they wouldn't be as big or be paid. Notch and the company Mojang can also flag the video for stealing content or whatever, video is put under review. Since the video is 100% Minecraft, Yogscast gets the video taken down.

I am biased towards Notch just over the fact that Yogscast probably did get people to buy the game, but that doesn't mean you should be paid for doing things that the Developer made then saying that they should pay you, PERSONALLY to do it. If your in a art, make the art because you love to do so, not because you get paid to do so.

Sadface. :(

It seems to me that both parties were tired and crabby after a sleepless con, by the looks of it. People say nasty stuff then their brains are going SLEEP NOW.

Public figures are not infallible and they make mistakes like anyone else. Who knows, Notch could have been reporting what someone told him, and whether true or not it could have got him angry. I don't blame him, the con looked difficult to pull off, and he is in the middle of a lawsuit. I don't blame the Yogscast lot either; they had a lot of issues to deal with and a long expensive plane trip. A big mess all round and I'm glad that they've settled any differences.

On that note, if they have resolved any bickering amicably then we should too; it shouldn't be up to a few fans to escalate it into a similar level to 'you insulted my mother'. I feel that those people who have DDOS'd sites should be ashamed of themselves; I'm sure they have had times they said/written something when tired/angry that they later regretted.

Now I'm off to play more Minecraft. Mansions don't build themselves, yannow.

Don't see why he hasn't challenged them to a quake deathmatch to prove who was right..

Anyway.. I haven't a clue who did what so I'm just gonna say as its Notch's event I think he's allowed to do what he wants, bad publicity included in the outcome of his actions..

Personally, I highly doubt that the Yogscast are the most friendly people around. I'm sorry, but where I live, British people are known to have an ego, especially famous people.

I don't agree with Notch posting all that on twitter but overall, I think Notch speaks more truth than the Yogscast.

Let's settle for a deal: Notch keeps developing the game, and everybody else speaks angrily on their nobody blogs. I'd be happy with that.

How sad : yet another proof that behind image of omnipotent deities we consider our celebrities are simple people like us, with all their disadvantages. On one hand we want them to provide us with something unique, creative, fun and on the other we don't allow them to have their own cake o'madness.

OT : Some guys. Misunderstanding. Twitter. Day like every other. F*ck it. Who cares ?
I got to this point in the thread and had to stop. First paragraph: Important quote that will be qouted 400 years from now. Remembered throughout history. I'd bet a beer on it.

God perhaps? Or merely mortal.

Notch has a lot of responsibility with all of the fan boys he has, even more when the ones he says something bad about share followers with him and depend on their following to earn money. Notch's apology seem extremely arrogant to me, he should have written as long an apology as the Yogscast wrote a letter explaining their side of the story.

As soon as you are famous you are not allowed to be human any more. Especially on the Internet. Let them hate each other in peace if they want to.

I'm inclined to believe notch's story because he's not an entertainer. If he's a dick then you'd still play a good game, but if the Yogscast were dicks than why would you want to go to their thing to be entertained by them.
EDIT: People are asses on the internet all the time though, it doesn't matter who started it because its the internet.

notch is a total arsehole, he even admitted that the shit he said wasnt entirely well informed, and now hes issued a pathetic apology which is fans are just willing to accept because there great idol as spoken. i really cant stand the egotistical prick with his hypocritical and two faced practices.

just take a look at the responses from both sides, notch bitches all other twitter leading to the yogcast being attacked in real life by his rabid fans. yogcast- wait and respond sensible and maturely....yeah thos childish yogcast men how dare they present themselves in a reasonable manner
Opinion is invalid until you learn how to use the keys surrounding the letters on your keyboard. See those little lines and dots? They may turn out to be mighty useful when attempting to convey an opinion.
Here is my an opinion for you, a petulant child who as nothing to add to a discussion, but instead decides to point out grammar errors in other peoples comments; which could only be some ill-guided attempt at making them feel superior. should either shut up or actually contribute to the discussion.
