I think Call of Duty's always been for the cool kids, ever since MW2 anyway. Halo's still classed as nerdy by most people.
I'm not really sure though, it's only in the past year I've started paying attention to anything CoD related anyway.
Ever think they just didnt like halo. For instance halo does not appeal to me in the slightest bit at all, I played it and thought it had rather shitty gameplay. Most people dont give a shit if its "classed as nerdy or cool" as you put it but rather if its entertaining to play or not.
I don't like Halo all that much myself, so yes, I did think that's a possibility.
I was just saying that's the opinion I've heard from some people. Call of Duty's for everyone, Halo's more for... Well, I don't think "for nerds" is right. Let's go with "a different audience". People who want something other than run and gunning.

Besides, we are talking about the people who usually shun games as they think they're just being for lonely geeks. Which, I'll be honest, is a stereotype I'm not personally doing very well to prove wrong.

Call of Duty has become a "non-gamer game". It's a very enjoyable game, that you can play without the stigma of being a gamer. "Yeah I play call of duty, but i'm not a gamer."

Just remember, spending two hours a day on WoW makes you a nerd.

Playing six hours of CoD a day makes you cool.

they make fun of my friends for mentioning halo but everyday im walking down the road ill hear: whats ur best killstreak? i got 80000000 points on icezone, black ops is really realistic its story mode makes the most sense ever! (yes i know thats not a real map...)

and i think people loved BLACK OPS the mot for one reason: when halo reach came out i thought it was taking a lot from MW2, the loadouts, all maps from campaign, sprinting, realistic movement, grittyness. ect. and then black ops took halos theatre, credit system for buying things, slightly more customizable games and a little bit of character changing. everyone likes black ops the best cuz it takes lots from halo. whenever i ask someone why halo sucks they all say i dont know or i havnt played it. people also say that black ops is better than reach because it has better graphics(you can lie down inside people!), better plot(hahahahahaha) and more realism(i dont care how stupid the military is you wouldnt send an AC-130 to fight 6 guys).

Didn't stop me from smugly calling a guy at college a nerd for pulling an all-nighter playing Black Ops. He tried to say it was different but I just went "Dude, you had a video game marathon session, welcome to the club." I laugh at these people who desperately try to disassociate themselves with the gaming crowd like there is something wrong with it, but still want to play games.

There a a few "non-gamer" game franchises, mainly Call of Duty, Rock Band, Madden, Halo, Guitar Hero, and anything by Pop Cap games. These are games that anyone can play without being called a gamer by non-gamers. It's like people are in denial. Maybe they think that if they admit that they like to play video games that they'll suddenly change into an uber nerd that goes to Star Trek conventions and argues whether Han shot first.

That's absolutely brilliant. I wish I could have seen that conversation and the look on his face when you said "welcome to the club." I haven't met many people like that, but I'd love to give that line a try sometime.

Call of Duty, since it went more modern, has been wildly popular.

Halo is sci-fi.

That should pretty much explain it.

These are middle school teen boys were talking about, they do this kind of thing all the time. They go crazy for the latest fad and go on about it until the next big thing.

I'm just glad I can now talk about a game without having everyone looking at me.

I've come across the same line of thinking in some people I know. They play hour upon hour of Call of Duty, and only Call of Duty, yet seem to question me when I play other games, such as Halo. Confusing...

Yes, but what happens if those rumors that there's a sci-fi Call of Duty in the works are true...? Will they refuse to play it, even though it's CoD? Will they just be hypocrites, and say it's "Not the same thing!"? Will their heads explode? Who knows.

*Internet tough guy voice* 'Cause Call of Duty is so much more hardcore.

Who cares? They're just opinions. They're less harmful than ants, even. Not even going to speculate on that.
This. Really there is no rhyme or reason to what is cool. It is whatever the people who are percived as cool say it is. And if you are not percived as cool then whatever you are doing is not cool. Even if you are doing the same thing as a someone who is cool. When they are doing it, it is cool. When you you are doing it, it is not cool. Follow?

This was never a problem with games until cool people started sticking their noses in and bringing their stupid coolness rules with them....

Hah, well I certainly hope so. They tend to be the kind of people I wouldn't really want to be worse than...

CoD is a game that anyone can be good at.
I stand as living proof of that statement being bullshit.

OT: It's because Black Ops is about 'cool, macho guys running around, saving the world from evil dudes' whereas Halo is still seen as 'that sci fi game'. There's your distinction.

I've personally seen Halo and MW/2 as both main stream and or enjoyed by those outside of the typical gamer culture, Combat Evolved and the entire series included. Opinions always vary, of course, but where I stand and what I see, I don't understand the CoD is " cooler " then halo mindset shared by some here. As mentioned somewhere in this thread, they're both " bro " status games, brah.
