I have massive hands and I have no problem using the ps3 controller whatsoever. Don't really think this is a valid complaint therefore. I also dont have an HDtv yet, so that wasnt an issue either. ( I have both 360 and PS3 btw.)

omg I forgot about the boomerang controller! That was so freaky when they showed concept art.

Well now that I know it doesn't come with HDMI or even component HD cables, that makes me feel rather better about not getting a PS3. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Microsoft fanboy by any means...if anything, I was a Sony fanboy for a while, owning a PS2 for 4 years and bashing on the 360.

The ps3 uses any USB or Bluetooth headset you can find.
Plus an official bluetooth one is coming out this month at the same time as SOCOM ps3.

..I just have one thing to say: I have never, ever seen the Xbox controller hailed as "ergonomic" or, fuck, even "comfortable."
I have, however, heard things like "bigger than my nuts" (Maddox) and "could drop it on a cat and break it's spine" (Maddox again) and "is a deadly weapon" (my friend, Xbox owner.)
You have to be refering to the original xbox controler, which I use in place of a jack to prop up my car. The 360 contoler is perfect for my hands. I know the PS3 controler is all clasic and shit, but you don't see Nintendo rehashing the retangular pop-tart with a cord and two red buttons do you? I see the current (un-evolving) PS controler as a poor design choice. You have a next gen console, update the damn controler. MS did, Nintendo really did.

You can find a good cheap HDMI cable if you look around, they're easy to find in Britain. Also, just buy a generic bluetooth headset, it should work with the PS3. I use an old Motorola one, works perfectly.

Controller wise, I prefer the original SIXAXIS controller overall, since it's lighter and easier to shake when needed than the DualShock 3. The only things I don't like about the 360 controller is the position of the left-stick and D-pad (SIXAXIS I can keep my thumb on the left analogue-stick and press the d-pad with my index finger) and that the D-pad is 8-way, which I'm not used to so if I'm using the d-pad on, for example, the keyboard, I'll find myself pressing left+down when I'm trying to press only one of them. Apart from that, I'm not bothered about either controller. At least I'm not like my friend who said (when he grabbed one of my SIXAXISs) "*crying* It's not natural, it isn't right, how can anybody hold this?"

Anyway, glad to see that there's one less fanboy in the world

EDIT: hehehe...just remembered when my friend was trying to win the fanboy-war against me, and he started comapring the 360 to the PS2...yes, 7th Gen vs. 6th Gen, that's a fair fight. He then said to me that the 360 has USB ports. He then hated my counter-argument about the PS2...

In regards to your two gripes;

Firstly, it only cost me £10 for a HDMI cable. You can actually get official ones for under a fiver.

Secondly, the PS3 controller is the greatest controller ever made bar none! Not only is it functional, sensibly designed, but it has the pros of nostalgia and familiarity - it is virtually unchanged from the PSX controller.

This is also a big boost when downloading retro games on the PSN - if it's a PSX game, I want to be able to use a PSX control layout. Seriously, trying to play Ocarina of Time on my Gamecube gave me a headache...

I don't have a problem with the PS3 controller and I have massive hands with incredibly long fingers so they are floating in space while I play and I don't have a problem. If that made any sense what-so-ever.

Man, cheapest HDMI cable I could find at a retail store here in the states was $70 and it was only 4', I needed a 6' one so I had to pay about $85. Sucks for me, I guess.

There's a couple of things you neglected to mention. You seem to know quite a bit about games and next gen consoles so why in the world did you buy an HDMI cable from Circuit City too? Next time get one from newegg for $8; it's the same thing as the $80 ones, maybe a little less flexible but what does that matter when it lives behind your TV.

A headset comes with Warhawk and if you have a PS3 and you don't have Warhawk, you probably don't have any other games that require a headset. But if you do have a PS3, there's no reason you shouldn't have Warhawk.

The controller is a matter of differing opinion. I think the MS controller is like a fat sweaty guy in my hands while the PS one feels like the lower half of a Japanese hooker in my hands. I also like the analog sticks at the bottom. But that's just my opinion and it doesn't even matter because with either system, the controller is the easiest thing to replace.

And if you get the 360 elite, you are almost definitely paying more than you would for a ps3 because of free PSN. If you get a 360 elite, you're probably getting a XBL gold account which is $50 a year right? How many years do you plan on keeping your xbox? Add $50 (or whatever it is) for each year; how much does that add up to? PSN is free, that means free online play for any game (so far; that'll probably change if we get mmorpgs), free demos, even free addons sometimes. The only thing you have to pay for are things like whole games (and a couple are even worth the $10), DLC, the stupid LBP costumes and a bunch of other crap you probably wouldn't bother downloading for free anyway.

Not to mention that some people go out and buy another 360 while their RRODed 360 is sent off for repairs. Is the system so nice, you have to buy it twice?

These are all the things I took into account when trying to decide on a next gen system; RROD being the big game changer for me. I'm not saying the PS3 doesn't have drawbacks, it's just that you seemed to miss them completely.
1-It's made by Sony. Then again the 360 is made by MS so that depends on which you consider to be the lesser of evils.

2-They encourage you to replace the HDD with a bigger one but the factory HDD is secured in the thing by screws that are machine tightened but shred/strip instantly. You may end up breaking the machine in the process and Trophy patches seem to have rendered the backup utility useless for certain games.

3-Don't expect any DLC for any game you care about. I never buy DLC (I get a new game when I'm done) so that wasn't a factor for me but I imagine for allot of GTA & Fallout fans, it is a factor.

4-PS is run by a bunch of Bozos I want to smack in the head. I couldn't even bring myself to purchase a ps3 while Phil Harrison was working there: trying to say it can replace your home PC.

5-If a game came out for the 360 and PC then is later brought to the PS3, it's more than likely going to be a complete mess.

Come to think of it, I hate Sony, why the hell do I keep buying playstations? Oh yea, I like the trippy games.

Wow you kinda got ripped off. I got a 6 foot one at Wal-mart for $35(ish) and I felt like I was getting ripped off. For future cables needs might i suggest newegg?

Ah yes, I forgot that if you buy a Wii you will automatically recieve a hot girl to play with.
Not automatically, you have to pay extra for that. In Japan, you can pay a hot girl to come to your house and play Wii with you.
That's just good buisness.

Step 1 - hot asain chick to pay your Wii
Step 2 -
Step 3 - profit!

Actually no, as I stated in the begining, I have recently bought and 360 elite and the PS3, the PS3 was more expensive due to cables and headset, including XBL. And like you said, the controler is a matter of preference.

As for XBL, I got the 360 first, so I have a long list of online friends there, so I don't really see myself playing too much on PSN, besides, I have a blast on XBL, literally. My group of XBL friends is screaming underage tard free.

And to whoever said to get it from Wal-mart/Sam's Club, I don't go to Wal-mart/Sam's club, personal boycot. I don't like what they do to get those low prices.

Do you have to make her breakfast and make small talk afterwards?

You wealthy three-console bastards... I tell ya.

Once, between me and my roommate, we had a 360, original Xbox, original Playstation, NES, and Wii hooked up to one TV. Also he had a Game Gear sitting around on random end tables, and I had a PSP.

Neither of us got laid for a month, until we finally dismantled and hid away some of that shit.

I hate it. I never had a PSX or PS2 so it isn't familiar or anything. It's just awkward.
The 360 controller, however, is amazing to me.

So, it's just different tastes. It might be the 'greatest controller ever' for YOU, but certainly not for everyone.

I like the PS3 slightly better because I like its exclusives more. I love Little Big Planet. I also like the PS3 controller better than the Xbox 360 one, and I know I'm going to catch so much shit for saying that, but the triggers are in a better position for me to keep my pointer fingers on the bumpers and my middle fingers on the triggers, and ready to flip someone off when the need arises, which was handy in GTA IV.
I'd agree, "being white enough to afford all 3 consoles" I feel teh PS3 does it best, but the Wii wins points for being able to stretch without letting go ot the pad. (if you can call it that)

The Xbox controller isn't uncomfortable to begin with but after too long it's weight does kick in a bit. (it's 3 ounces heavier than the dual-shock3 not much but you notice after a few hours playing gears.)

however the 360 does win points becuase it may just be me, but the buttons feel closer together, maybe it's the grip that makes it so. making reactions slightly faster, which can be very useful.
