To the original poster's two points against the PS3. I bought my PS3 before I got an HDTV, then got an HDMI cable when I got an HDTV. It only cost me £10, but I agree with it not being in the box as a stupid idea, considering HDMI support was one of the console's original boasts.
The second point, I disagree with. I've been using the controller design for about 12 years though, so my hand's become shaped to the Dualshock's design and rejects any other shape (I find a 360 controller awkward to hold, despite most people claiming it's ergonomically superior). I was also one of the few people that never disliked the weird way the L2/R2 buttons press in.
Game-wise, graphic-wise and hard-ware wise, I don't really see much difference between the two competitors (I exclude Wii here, it's gone off on its own tangent and isn't really in competition with PS3/360), even though statistics and several fanboys are keen to tell me otherwise.

I do prefer the xbox 360 controller.
Seeing as games all use analogue sticks now instead of the D-pad, it makes sense to have the left stick where it is on the 360 controller. I also find the PS3 controller a bit small but I think that's just because I'm not used to it.
One thing that annoyed me was I was playing COD5 on a friend's PS3 and you use R1 to fire? Why not R2, which is a trigger and in a better position? I didn't understand it.

yeah that isnt the ps3 controller, thats the concept controller. but imagine if it was... i think its kinda cool looking, and in black hmm maybe... Oh and on the size matter. i have the sixaxis and a duelshock 3 and i have huge hands, and they are more than comfy for me. Erm try sites like play.com, the official one is great. Comfy,Sensitive enough, nice big ol mute button. epic start up tone thats like the x files theme. charges through your ps3 and conects easily unlike my old non-official one. Thirdly, (as a Google search would show you) the PS3 and PS2 controllers are almost identical.
And for the fourth sentence of yours, I can reply the same I said in my last sentence - The Playstation controllers are almost identical (excluding the first Playstation 1 controllers, which were without Dual Shocks)
And one thing I just can't get off my mind, is - why do you talk so much about the PS2's controller, when I didn't say a word about? Well, except talking about a person that doesn't like the 360's controller because he has been accustomed to the tiny Playstation controllers, and here I referred to all the controllers of the Playstations, not the Playstation 2.
