Just bought the game and currently waiting for the game to finish downloading.

For those who don't know, Oddworld New n Tasty is a remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, a game that came out back... in '97 I think for the PS1 and later for the PC. It was the first in a line of pretty awesome games that came out for various consoles.

So, why am I making a topic about this? Well, I read that if this game sells 250,000 units, the guys who made this game will also make an HD remake of Abe's Exoddus, the sequel to Abe's Oddysee. And if the game sells for 250,000 MORE units, we might be able to see a brand new Oddworld game as well.

So to those who have a PS4, (probably not that many of you, which is understandable) if you have a spare $30 on you, please support this game. Oddworld Inhabitants makes some fantastic games IMO, and I'd love to see more from them.

For everyone else, the game will eventually release on the PS3, Xbone, PC, and Wii U. The exact release date hasn't been given, but it should be somewhere this year.

I'm definitely getting this. Getting very positive reviews as well. For anyone fan of old 2D classics such as Another World and Flashback, this game is a must buy.

Make sure you support it so that we get the sequal remade as well! :)

I'm getting a PS4 in about a month. And this is gonna be one of my first purchases.

Oddworld was without a doubt one of my most favorite series from the PS1 era. Hell, I still go back and replay Oddysee and Exoddus about once a year. I've been waiting for this for awhile and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I hope the game gets plenty of support. This could be exactly the kind of thing this series needs to come back to life.

One thing's on my mind though that I haven't seen mentioned in any reviews. The soundtrack. How is it?

Because... it was kindof among the best thing about the original games.

Don't have a PS4, and don't plan on getting one, so sadly I won't be able to support this game, but I LOVED the first game when it came out back in the day.

It's actually got one of the few game endings that evokes a real emotional response from me when I see it.

Hope it does well, because revitalizing this gameline is a good thing IMO.

Does it justify the price?

I would have gladly picked the game up for under £10 (PSN impulse purchase territory), but closer to £20 (it's £17.99) and I want to see if I will get my monies worth.

I just got it today and I've just reached Paramonia. And I have to say it's pretty good, BUT there are a few issues I have with it.

The controls are a little finicky. Any Abe veterans will be very used to the grind based system by which Abe moves around, whether it's walking, running, rolling, jumping, or run-jumping. In New n' Tasty the controls are a lot more loose. Both walking and running for example are tied to the analog stick, which means no more solid default walk and no more run button to control your speed properly, making for a lot of unfortune deaths by grinder or mine especially in the beginning.

Same goes for throwable items. Where before the throw distance was locked depended on whether you were standing and pressing up/forward/down, or crouching and pressing up/forward/down, now you have free aim. This makes hitting mines a bit more of a hassle. Also for some reason you can now throw bottle caps to distract enemies, but I haven't discovered any real benefit to that yet.

The sound can get very overbearing the more action there is on screen. This is due to the Mudokon laborers talking quite a bit now. If there's, say, three Mudokons, two Sligs, and a couple of mines in one area (along with ambiant noise and music) the sound just drowns itself out and becomes a blur of noise.

I also don't like the way the Slogs sound now. Now more heavy barks, or delightful yelps when you blow them up. Shame. I also don't care much for Abe's voice, but I've had that issue since Exoddus so that's nothing new.

The visuals generally look very nice, though I do feel a lot of the menace is lost from Rupture Farms. I don't know if it's the 3D rendering, but the place doesn't feel as big and industrial as it used to. The way secret areas have little panels in the floor now is pretty cool though.

A lot of heft and weight behind the character animation is gone, but I was already aware of that after having seen the trailers. Still, too bad. I miss Abe's swagger as well as that unique sound of his flat feet hitting the metal floors.

Monsaic Lines however looks absolutely incredible. In the original the visual design always teased the 3D scope at certain screen transistions, but since the levels now scroll this effect is constant and it's a feast for the eyes.

I'm also glad they put in the old school one-hit kill mode for us Abe geeks. That would've been terrible had they left that out.

Have you played the game already? Or will this be a first time for you?

I'm also not sure what 20 pounds translates to roughly in US dollars?

If you haven't played it before, all I can say is that it was a very fun, and humorous, and heartfelt game by the publishers. It's a sidescrolling platformer, so if you don't like that type game, I wouldn't buy it. But if you do like that kind of game, mixed with a lot of humor and cartoonish antics and adventures. Then yeah, check it out.

From what I can tell, they redid the soundtrack, but there's almost no difference between the two they sound so similar.

I can understand what you mean about the chatter amongst the mudokuns and sligs. However, I do kinda like all the little background stuff they added in Rupturefarms. The big ol' boilers which they dump the meat carcasses, the conveyor belts moving the caged scrabs and paramites towards their demise, all the small details littered around the enviroments in general, ect. I guess in the end though, I do prefer the atmosphere in the old game's Rupturefarms, but I like what we got here as well.

I guess one nitpick I do have with the game so far is the ragdoll physics of the characters. I kinda wish they had actual death animations instead of falling limp to the floor.

As for the bottlecaps, I found that they can be used to kill bats. Kinda grateful for that, as those things were little bastards in the original game.

As for the controls, I can agree they took quite a bit to get used to. I kinda wish the triangle button allowed me to hop forward instead of showing me my health, which is almost pointless in hard mode.Probably would have saved me from a few deaths. Although it just felt a bit more natural for me to tilt the analog stick to control my speed.

Overall, from what I've played so far, this game is definitely a solid remake and does the original game justice. Here's hoping this game gets the attention it deserves.

Yeah I didn't care for that either. It robbed most of the kills from their brutal nature. The explosions in the original even had the ocassional arm or Slig mouth flying towards the screen. Now it's just a bunch of indistinguishable round chunks.

There are moments though were the game really feels broken, and that I gotten by only by sheer luck. The original had a good number of situations where you were meant to use the screen transition to lure an enemy away. Like for instance, if there's two sligs on a screen with no overhead path, you'd need to get one of the slig's attention, lure it to the other screen where you can safely possess it, to then return to the first screen and take out the other one. In New n' Tasty, because the screen now scrolls, you don't have that safety wall of the screen transition to stop a slig from instantly shooting you once it sees you, yet that same set-up of having to lure it away still exists. This wouldn't be too much of an issue if I lowered the difficulty, but a game is not supposed to become practically unplayable on the hardest difficulty.

There was also an optional area to save mudokons that caused me the worst rage I can remember in a long time. And the reason was because I didn't have one-on-one control over my rolls. And the rolls in the original were the go-to for grinder-heavy areas. I'm just about to enter Rupture Farms again, and I quiver to think how in the name of Christ I'm supposed to make it through that final timed section. You know? The one with a million grinders and mines all cramped together.

The original was also difficult at times, but whenever I died I knew it was my fault since the controls were 100% accurate.

I remember when it first came out I never got very far but loved the animation and style of the game and spent hours just messing about in it.

I would have gotten the new one but its 18 pounds which is way way way to expensive especially as I can get the original for a few pounds now and it still looks and sounds great.
