Reasons I wouldn't go... the horrible internet and game censorship

not really that much, also we're getting an R18+ rating which should fix much of this soon.

Internet censorship? We don't have it... there were plans for it, and maybe still are... but we don't have it.
Good to hear. Though the plans for internet censorship are still on the table, if it were implemented... can't say I'd want to go.

Apparently German game censorship makes complaints about Australian censorship rather pathetic anyway. -cough-

As for the bugs? If you don't go into the country the likelyhood is that you will not see a single one. Even if you do, they don't fucking bite your face off. They sit in the corner or on a wall and do nothing. Just get a glass, put it over it, slide some card under the glass and throw the fucker outside and stop being such a pansy. Just mentioning that snakes too are pretty rare sights in most places and you'll never run into one unless you're a moron traipsing through high grass.

The reasons you wouldn't come here is because it's expensive comparatively to countries that have more touristy things to do. Here in Melbourne I can't think of much a tourist would do... sure there are landmarks, things like museums and aquariums, but there's nothing really special. We're one of the most liveable cities, with some of the best nightlife and culture in the world, but that only caters for a special kind of tourist, and us Melburnians ourselves.
I assume this wasn't aimed at me, because I was only joking about Australian rape centipedes.

Honestly, I think the wildlife is probably of least concern. However, were I ever to move to Australia I would definitely prefer to live in a rural place with a large garden, hence risking problems with some nasty critters. I can't understand why someone would go to Australia just to live in a cramped, humid metropolitan Hell. Though I may be missing something special about Australian cities.

I really miss the amazing public transportation :(

The only reason I wouldn't move there again is the weird way internet is distributed. Living there put me into a strange internet rationing mentality.
Amazing public transport? I take it you weren't staying in Sydney then.

Come now, the spiders, snakes, and many MANY other creatures with insanely deadly venom that we Australian's encounter every few minutes are only dangerous to our less manly non-Australian brothers.

Once you become Australian yourself, you're too busy wrestling crocodiles while drinking fosters and throwing shrimps on the barbie to let a little bit of incredibly deadly venom bother you... Mate.

Spiders. Also, sharks. Yes I know sharks are everywhere, but I've heard too much about them there for me to get it out of my head.

I'm only just getting good at dealing with big spiders here, and they don't even compare to Australian spiders. Big spiders for even one day = terrible nightmares for life.

"So.... reasons why wouldnt you go to australia?"

Brain... hemorrhaging! Horrible... syntax! Forcing me to go... Shatner to... decipher its meaning!

Jokes aside? Australia has awesome weather, tampered by the occasional flood. Beyond that, oh, let's see. Has anything *not* been mentioned somewhere above me? No? Oh, well. Dang it. Off the top of my head:

- bugs;
- parakeet infestations;
- attempts at game censorship;
- coddling of gamers (see Left 4 Dead 2's neutering for the Aussies)

And, well, all that, plus the general sense that outside of Sydney and Canberra, I wouldn't know where to go. I'm not a beach-head. I'm a lit geek and a gamer and I'd like to be able to have access to the one vice of mine that requires a computer without feeling that Big Brother's assuming that I'm a bad, bad deviant for playing bad, bad and deviant games.

Speaking of which, I don't want to hijack the thread or anything, but has Saints Row: The Third been censored or banned in Australia? If not, I'll start laughing.

Wouldn't want to spend the money, not fond of hot weather, and I can't take any of my guns with me (unless they allow me to get the license online as a non-citizen. Haven't looked into that)... if ever there was a place where I'd want firearms to defend myself from the wildlife... actually, number 1 would be Alaska. But Australia is up there.

Money (or lack thereof) plain and simple. If money was not an issue Australia along with Canada would be near the top of my list of places to visit and immigrate to.

I don't like traveling.

I'd rather stay in my house than go on vacation to an amusement park for example.

I suppose the main reason I'm not going to go anytime soon would be money, I'm not saying Australia is expensive, I just don't have the cash for a big, impulsive foreign holiday right now.

Maybe someday though.
Sydney is expensive, though. :p One of the most expensive cities in the world, now.

As for me, well, it's where I'm from, so I don't have much holding me back. My main reason for not going back there is that I don't want to leave my family, who're all in the UK with me.

haha, dude, when you quote his text it has the code tags visible right there XD

*demonstrating my ability to look at what's sitting there in the code box right infront of me*

I found a redback the size of a walnut in my house the other day.

On my first day in Finland, I was jumping around in knee-high snow, and suddenly stopped and thought "I can't see my feet, what if there's a snake?". I'm so used to thinking about snakes, I couldn't even fathom it when I heard in Fiji that there are no snakes on the main island. All that foliage and no snakes!

I've seen fields of beached bluebottles, and they can kill you (they're not actually jellyfish, but colonies, but they work the same way), and blue ringed octopi aren't common, but they can kill you, and they're small enough to not see too.

Paralysis ticks scare the willies out of me, again, something that can paralyse you which you can't necessarily see?

Its hot, its expensive and half the population (both human and animal) probably wants you dead.
why would we Aussies want to kill you? also the insects are not that bad as long as you stay out of remote bushland by yourself

I was staying in Melbourne. The fact that we don't actually have any form of public transportation here where I live in New Hampshire makes any public transportation better than what I'm accustomed to.
