I don't know if the latest Spyro game is out yet elsewhere, but it's been out a little while (a week?) in Australia.

At first I was a little sceptical, I've never liked Spyro and the toy's idea seemed lame the combat looked simple and the characters all looked silly.

My brother got it and my girlfriend was looking forward to it.

I ended up buying two of the characters for my nephew on Saturday and my girlfriend picked up the full game along with a booster which came with an extra mission.

I watched her play and decided to have a go. It's fucking great.

I've now dedicated all of my gaming allowance, (couple dollars a week) to saving for all of the different characters which seem cool; while my girlfriend simply wants everything.

So for anyone who knows nothing about it here's a link.

For anyone else, have you played it? Did you like it? Who's your favourite skylander? Do you have any rare ones? Has anyone in Australia seen the legendary pack?

I may play it eventually, and even if it may be fun, was it REALLY necessary to make Spyro look like he just had acid thrown onto his face?

Also, why is Spyro even in this game? Does it even take place in the same world as the previous games? Does it feature any previous characters? Or is Spyro only in it as a marketing tool?

No matter how good it is, I will not be buying a game that requires me to sink a fortune into shitty plastic figures in order to see all the content.

This game can never be as good as the nostalgic version of the original Spyro I have constructed in my head.

Gaming snobs FTW.

My son played this yesterday and he seems to have fallen for it's charms.

And anything's better than buying into Backugan, to be honest.

So, if this is true, then hopefully Skyrim and Skywar Sword are amazing too, after all, they all have "sky" somewhere.

How much did you get paid for this?
Considering he's been here since 09 and is morally righteous enough to have the epic poster badge.

Probably nothing. I mean, is it really impossible that somebody actually likes a game.

Anyway, on topic.

It looks... interesting.

However between CCGs and RPGs I've pretty much maxed out my collectibles budget, and I don't particularly like the idea of mixing physical models and software.

While I like the look of the gameplay, and the concept behind using figures to beam in characters.......

The whole "you much individually purchase new characters, and we only give you 3" thing....THAT pisses me off. It's money grubbing of the highest order, IMHO.

Ech, I do not like the character designs one bit...it looks like they just traced the models from How to Train Your Dragon. Spyro has always had such a distinct look and silhouette, and now he just looks and sounds like every other dragon aimed at younger demographics these days. But hey, if you say it's good, you have a right to that opinion.

I don't care if its a great game, I will not shell out all that extra cash to unlock all of the content, this is the "worst case scenario" for on the disk DLC and I shall not take part

I hear you. I would have nothing against Skylanders if they'd created a new, original franchise for it, instead of giving poor old Spyro another one up the rear. Really - just look at Spyro's new design. He looks nothing like himself. If they'd just slapped another NAME on him while they were at it, nobody would have noticed!

Yeah, totally some adbot spam. It's not like OP is a regular, active poster on the forums or anything. I have a hangover, and I still felt the need to facepalm really hard seeing a few of the posts above.

OT: I still have my bubble of nostalgia from the original playstation trilogy. I haven't played them in over a year though, I might play them again. I like to 100% all three about once a year. Like has been said above, I probably wouldn't have picked it up until it'd be out for a while anyway, but they're flogging the dead Spyro horse now. Where the hell did Sparx go anyway?

My fiancé and I was thinking about buying the game for her seven-year-old son. Is it worth it?
I mean he´s just gotten the handle on Super Mario Galaxy and it looks like we have a soon-to-be gamer on our hands.
I just want to make sure that we buy him good games, you know?

So, should we spring for Spyro or look around for something better? (The kid is HEAVILY into Backugans too, btw, so I know your pain...)

Saw it in the store and because i haven't really heard anything about it i looked it up on the internet a bit. I gave it a try and i didn't regret it. Also since i never played a spyro game i do not have nostalgia blinding me for the character design. I do agree that spyro didn't really have to be in it, it is just name dropping.

You can feel the game is aimed at kids due to the simplistic gameplay (though to get 100% on a level you really have to work for it). Also some of the puzzles in later stages took me 20+ minutes and many tries to complete, that might frustrate some younger kids.

You only need 1 character of each of the 8 elements to see all the content. It is indeed still a lot, but if you have friends that have the same game (on whatever platform) you can use each other plastic figurines on each other systems.

As for the question i have 2 favs Trigger Happy (that is the one that came with the starter pack) and Stealth elf ( i love elfs and the design on stealth elf and flameslinger is really nice)

Blasphemy! positive praise is unknown to this forum!

Idea really is interesting, seems similar to some of the Eye games that were more ambitious than most. Not sure I want to buy it, though.
