Sorry, but to me this just shouts "Skylanders ad".
Sorry, I was just really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the game. I thought it would suck and I think that's why I liked it so much. It couldn't have been as bad as my expectations were.

I may play it eventually, and even if it may be fun, was it REALLY necessary to make Spyro look like he just had acid thrown onto his face?
Also, why is Spyro even in this game? Does it even take place in the same world as the previous games? Does it feature any previous characters? Or is Spyro only in it as a marketing tool?
I didn't play much of Spyro when I was a kid, so I don't really know what other characters there should be but I think you're right, it's 100% name dropping. Like the Xcom thing.

No matter how good it is, I will not be buying a game that requires me to sink a fortune into shitty plastic figures in order to see all the content.
It's part of what I like. There's only a couple of heroes/characters (30 something?) and as far as I'm aware you only need 8 (one of each type/element) to experience all of the content. Although I could be wrong.

This game can never be as good as the nostalgic version of the original Spyro I have constructed in my head.
Yeah, to be honest, don't go in looking for a Spyro game you won't find it here. Go in looking for a new game which happens to have a purple dragon called Spyro in it. Although it's really good fun it's not like the old games, there's no jumping (there's jump pads instead) and it's mostly based on a simple but fun combat gameplay with a little bit of exploring.

While I like the look of the gameplay, and the concept behind using figures to beam in characters.......
The whole "you much individually purchase new characters, and we only give you 3" thing....THAT pisses me off. It's money grubbing of the highest order, IMHO.
Yeah, I'm excited to see what else they can do with the idea. Especially considering the tech is dirt cheap. It's been used to open doors for ages. It's exactly what's in those wavey cards you get at hotels.
You don't
need all of the heroes or skylanders, but you need 8 at least to unlock all of the hats (because they worked for valve) and get 100%. I'm pretty sure you can complete the game with 1 hero.

Ech, I do not like the character designs one bit...it looks like they just traced the models from How to Train Your Dragon. Spyro has always had such a distinct look and silhouette, and now he just looks and sounds like every other dragon aimed at younger demographics these days. But hey, if you say it's good, you have a right to that opinion.
Thanks. I'll be honest, I'm not a massive Spyro fan, so that would probably have a lot to do with my enjoyment.

Gaming snobs FTW.
My son played this yesterday and he seems to have fallen for it's charms.
And anything's better than buying into Backugan, to be honest.
My fiancé and I was thinking about buying the game for her seven-year-old son. Is it worth it?
I mean he´s just gotten the handle on Super Mario Galaxy and it looks like we have a soon-to-be gamer on our hands.
I just want to make sure that we buy him good games, you know?
So, should we spring for Spyro or look around for something better? (The kid is HEAVILY into Backugans too, btw, so I know your pain...)
If it's anything to go on my 5 year old nephew loves it. He also likes the Lego games, anything similar to the play style of them too like the Ben 10 games for 360 and the TMNT game on Wii. So if your son likes that sort of stuff it's a safe bet he'll like these.
