Ok you all, this thread is now about pancakes! Since the derailment has already gone too far XD.
I kid (unless I am taken serious, I would love this thread to go for pancakes)

OT. I never questioned Sony. And I never used a credit card. I am quite safe.
Sony (sorta) fanboyism FTW!
Opinions on Aunt Jemima?
I prefer homemade... both the waffles/pancakes and the syrup... But seriously now, is this going to be the new direction of the thread? or are we staying on the PC discussion? OR are we going to go back on topic... even though it doesnt seem to have too much in discussion value to start with...
I love how this thread went full circle. Let's list the progression.

- PSN
- PC Gaming
- Self-built vs. AlienWare PCs
- Pancakes
- Homemade vs. Aunt Jemima Pancakes.

lol

Oh god I came to this thread and Trolls have already built a bridge... of IRRELEVANTNESS! I don't see how that person would even have enough money to build that many computers in the their suggested time span...

OT: Is the source reliable? and the version of servers don't matter if the security is poor.

1) Gee, what a mess Sony have gotten into! In current times, nowhere is safe. Those hackers, ay? What rascals!

2) Thank you for bringing me over to the good side, fine chap!
Oh, no problem man! You have a good day, now.

And I totally agree, what WILL those hackers do next? Little buggers. I support Sony in their endevor to protect people and their information also!

Funny how "Generally Cheapo Tossed Together PIECES of JUNK" will outlast you pretty-shine-shine Alienware over-priced garbage by a long LONG SHOT.

Alienware are incredibly over-priced, faulty, pathetic piles of garbage that Dell fanboys flock to defend.
18months of service in my Alienware, not one problem. GTX 460 Core i7 920 12 gigs of ram, 3.2terabytes of storage.
Getting a GTX 570 soon.
Homebuilt out last an alienware.
Boy howdy, look at whos acting like an ignorant american now?
I bet you can't even tell me a real world price for an alienware aurora.

meh had my home built for 3 years now still works perfectly and can run almost all games on high graphics.... I love my baby :3

You know, the source article covers this, but I think it's worth reiterating.

It's... strangely sad how many people are willing to accept secondhand reports of anonymous IRC logs as absolute truth, but easily verifiable information that does not cast Sony in a negative light is immediately questioned.

4. I'm confused, you have built more then 100 computers in 8 years right? 200 a year, aside from repair is what I've done in a year...maybe I'm misunderstanding you.
Yeah, 100 computers isn't impressive. I probably would have done more than that in the 2 1/2 years I was at uni because, apart from systems I built for various people I knew, almost every week I'd have a few drinks with some of the lads from Computer Systems Engineering and take part in their weekly Speed Build comp to see who could build a working PC the fastest. Plus a few mates of mine used to hold regular 'scratch build' parties where everyone would bring their spare parts boxes and alcohol and we'd get shitfaced and low-ish end PCs for friends and fam. Yes, I knew a lot of alcoholic nerds. :D

OT: At the moment, it's just rumour and counter-rumour. Only people that really know are Sony and the hackers who raided them.

oka?

Again, lets get passed this, and go find the guys who did it, and stop this pointless blaming. You're shouldnt be having this issue if you werent lazy and checked with your banks and let them know its been compromised.

So... they're running the most up-to-date version of Apache.... but what about the other programs that are necessary to run the service? Was the server they checked the one running any of the PSN services? Did the attack even go anywhere near any Apache server?

There's so many other factors in here other than the version of Apache on their site server. Yes, they kept that one up to date, but it might not necessarily have anything to do with anything else, so I wouldn't be so quick to say they do keep things up to date.

Tbh, I think both statements are totally useless. Only an audit and discussions with the system admins will tell if the servers were fully-maintained or not. (Not all updates are good... certainly know that from experience)

I think it's strange how people seem to think that any amount of technical information can cast Sony in a positive light. I would expect a large company that deals with many online transaction to have the latest and best security. This isn't news, this is exactly what I thought happened.

It's just like all the Fanboys are pointing out as defense. Anybody can get hacked. Doesn't matter what the security is or how well it works. But that's where Sony screwed up. That's the statement that really damns Sony. If anybody can get hacked, then everybody should have policies in place for when it occurs. Not technical policies, but Public Relations policies.

Sony's PR reaction was terrible, ill-conceived and obviously not planned in advance. You don't shut everything down and then not inform your customers that they are at risk for a week. That's why I'm mad at Sony, that's why I think Sony screwed up.

I enjoy how quickly this thread devolved into a flame war. /popcorn

OT: I've been suspecting this all along. I know there is more that Sony could have done to protect the data, there always is. I did not, however, think that they were as lax with security as many people seem to think they were.

No service charges....(XBL)no down servers(PSN)...just lots of great, and many times free games with epic graphics and multiscreens(PC)
Nah, real PC gamers don't buy Alienware.

/continuing childishness

OT: OK then.
a Real PC gamer?
What constitutes a REAL PC gamer?
I doubt you've built as many computers as I have, or dedicated as much time and money into video games that I have.
Come back and tell me that once you've
1.Built at least 100 PCs in about 8 1/2 years
2.Spent at least 2200 hours of in game time in an MMORPG or similar game
3.Spent a summer building and selling computers as an out of home job.
4.work as an official wiki editor for an MMORPG

Nope?
I'm the real PC gamer here, youre just a wanna be.
Wow. This is just...
Wow.

I wish I knew what to say to this. I have absolutely nothing here.

MMM... Pancakes.
I wonder if sony security should eat pancakes. Maybe that would enable them to not be hacked a zillion times.

Apache? I've never seen it in that context before, if its something to do with not expanding on my first post its simple, I read the article and had nothing else to say. I got the information I was after and that's it. I guess if you are desperate I'll add the obligatory responses:-

Ha should have bought an Xbox
Ha should be with the PC master race
Damn, sony sucks, I feel bad for the users.

I love how the entire first page of comments has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of discussion. It's just a bunch of PC gamers fighting over the size of their... rigs.

OT: I'm not sure if this news makes me feel better, or worse.
