I was gonna try to learn Escapist's opinions on this topic, but the thread got badly hijacked. So I'm gonna say this:

1. so Sony isn't as incompetent as everyone's claiming it is? WHAT A SURPRISE.
2. PC gaming is only as good as your aftermarket parts as far as the same game across all platforms is concerned. I'd rather buy a $400 console that's planned for a decade than buy a tower for $500, upgrade it for who knows how much more money, only for a majority of its important components to become obsolete in a year or two.
3. That being said, ENOUGH DICK WAVING! Consoles are great, PC is great albeit a money sink, let's just shut up and talk about Sony like we planned when this thread started!

ROFLMAO. Computer games are the absolute worst as far a as cheating and hackers goes, you are obviously oblivious. Not surprised though as you have an alienware yet self-righteously include yourself in the pc master race. It doesn't count when someone builds it for you little child. I game across all platforms and any belief that PC gaming saves you from the socially deprived rejects that want nothing more than to ruin someone elses fun(usually someone with dignity and self respect), is just being obtuse.

Oh and for your list of "Accomplishemnts", it's the internet, validity flies right out the window, for example my list of accomplishments

1. First man on the moon (yeah that was me).
2. Knows who shot JFK on the grassy knoll(no I wont tell you).

4. Built a quantum computer running at 1,000 qubits in my Iphone.

That's great. My cheapo home made computer went on to live for 34 months without me having to do jack shit, and when I had to do something all I had to do was get a new screen card.

GTX 460 Core i7 920 12 gigs of ram, 3.2terabytes of storage.

For such remarkable spec you have a bad screen card. And 12 gig of ram? What the fuck, pointless or what.
Also how many Ghz is that i7?

Why not just get the 590 if you're going into total overkill mode. Also the AMD Radeon HD 6970 is supposed to be the shit.

What you, and many others need to remember, that a gaming PC is used by PC gamers for more than just games. Whatever a console can do, a PC can do better and then some. So when you consider consoles are generally games or dvd's only, the price of PC is understandable. Many of us think it's a waste of money to spend 400 dollars on a console that can't do more than games. There are also many variables as to the general life span of a pc, but I'm way off topic.

Another point I forgot to mention is that since everyone has a computer these days, rather than spend 3-400 dollars on a dedicated game box, why not use that money to make your computer play them just as well, if not better. Pc gamers, myself specifically, figure "Hey, I spend a lot of time at my computer, why not do games too?". I don't even watch TV because I can do everything with my triple monitor set up.

On topic: After talking with some people I know who are good with networking and such, it's likely that the hackers made their move onto Sony's network while they were updating their server with the most up to date software. Generally those are the times where servers are most vulnerable. So yes, Sony was up to date, but they were targeted at a time where they were in the process of updating.

Speculation is all.

I'm a video editor, a PC can be used for anything and everything, why is it stupid to use my PC for what it was intended use is?

Because a Quad-core gaming-processor is not intended for high-performance video editing, as it is, frankly, just too weak for extensive video rendering jobs.
And contrary to what you are claiming, yes, there are workstation GPUs. You won't need them if you're 100% on digital data and not doing any fancy effects works, though. In which case, I suppose, an i7 is probably enough to do any job. Consider my question answered.
