So suddenly NOT watching Avatar has made me the social outcast.

So now I am shunned because A. I haven't seen Avatar and B. I am not facinated by pretty things that can be made on the computer for a sci-fi movie.

What is going on? can I just not win?
Nope. For whatever reason this movie is making people act crazy - on both sides - so if you want to stick to your guns tell them that you have no interest in seeing it. You can even go see the movie and if it might change your opinion or it might not.

But don't go see the movie and say you liked it if you hated it. You'll win the battle, but you'll lose the war.

To be honest, I'm sick of hearing about this movie. Someone either hates it or loves it, wants to burn down all theaters showing it or want to start a religion about it; both sides are getting ridiculous.

Ah orangeapples, its been awhile. So from what you are saying, people think Avatar is good? To be frank, I didn't find the film to be anything special and I'm getting quite sick of hearing of it now, its almost as bad as when everyone in my school wouldn't stop talking about CoD4 MW2. -_-

-ahem- Anyways, if they keep bothering you with the fact you haven't seen the film, do what they did to you, just ignore them, trust me from my experience, they'll want a reaction out of you if they're that immature.

And no you simply can't win, when its about something that many people have all agreed on, then I seriously doubt that one person can change their minds as easily as that. Just let it subside like everything eventually does and stop trying to impress that crowd if they're gonna be douchebags to you.

Perhaps just not be overbearing on other people's opinions? OK, so you're being criticised for not seeing the movie, but overreacting by judging the movie based on Internet hearsay will get you nowhere.

I really enjoyed the film.
I'm not understanding why people are griping about it, especially when they haven't seen it.
"I heard about it from this kid I know, so I know it's bad."
When it comes to movies: That's one of the stupidest thing I've heard.

The visual effects were breathtaking, and the story took themes and characterizations from other works and combined them in a really awesome way into a great, fun story. A fresh, visually stunning, and entertaining take on older themes.
Geez, some people ***** about "originality" more then an introverted goth kid bitches about individuality.
Get over it and enjoy yourself.
And I second this. I find it hard to understand why, of all the people I know who have seen it, loved it, and yet on the Escapist there seems to be a lot of people who disliked or downright hated it. Even if you take the whole 'Dances with Smurfs' arguement into account, it's not like the plot was bad - there's no gaping plot holes.
I'm thirding this.

I thought it was a good movie. Ok, the theme and storyline are not exactly original, but it was well told, and presented with a unique sci-fi twist to it with wonderful cinematics and decent quality characters. Just because its slightly unorginal does not make it a crap movie, thinking that would mean overlooking all sorts of things which make it a good movie.
