So the MSN messenger is finally dead. Is that really so bad?

Can't really blame em for shutting it down as we can read from these comments, fewer and fewer people are using it.
However migrating it to skype (against peoples will) might lead to an even further decrease in user base.

Can't really care, the only people i used msn for was my then girlfriend and someone i talk on TeamSpeak with almost every day. Stopped using it ages ago and don't miss it.

I loved MSN, but I stopped using as I'd just talk to all my friends on Xbox live anyways, funny I even connected to MSN through Xbox live as well but rarely used it. Skype, though I am not fond of. Oh well I use AIM/Trillian anyways.

What was better about it than Facebook? Facebook is far easier, you just carry on convos and its easier to get all your friends in one! Microsoft communicator at work on the other hand...

I haven't used it for a good few years now, probably since the popularity of MySpace. I just use Steam, Facebook, ps3 and email, respectively, nowadays.

I will say though that MSN brings back a huge amount of nostalgia for me. "Back in the day" aka, 14+ years a go I used to live on MSN (Hell, Who didn't?) as well as regularly use some of its chatrooms.

I used to use it back in highschool but mainly to play Bejeweled against my friends, but haven't even considered touching it in at least 5+ years. That's when I just stuck to using Gmail rather than IM-ing people, it gave me more time to play games and talk to people for realsies. The number of fucks given is currently very low. Maybe it's a bit more of a tear jerker for fans of the service though.

I used to use MSN every day, It was my primary way of communicating with people while I was at the computer. I'm kind sad to see it go but really, I haven't used it for a few years now so I can't really say I'm surprised that it shut down.

It's a shame though, as far as IMs go it's miles better than Skype or facebook chat.

I still use MSN as part of my Trillian messenger. In fact, I'm talking to someone right now as it's only the client that's been killed, MSN servers will still work for at least a year.
MSN is great when you don't use microsoft products to access it.
Trillian actually warned that if you migrate, at least as of the warning, it would screw up your ability to use Skype with Trillian. So I'm still using Skype and MSN as-is.

So, escapists, how do you feel?
MSN? Last time I really used it much was in my early 20's. And I'm 34 so... over 10 years ago?

I use Google Talk for nearly everything now, it's been my choice IM service for about the past decade. Or I pick up my phone and send a text.

I remember when Outlook had new accounts being offered. I was all happy that I got several email names I wanted on the day the service opened. :D

Haven't used it since it changed from MSN to Live Messenger. Skype isn't what I'd consider a good program though. Half of the time it silently crashes or drops people in group calls and the ui needs a ton of work. It's serviceable at best, but I prefer to use other voip programs.

Well, I for one, refuse to merge my Msn account with my Skype account.

I want to keep those seperate.

Other than that, the only thing I use it for is opening the mail client.

Never could keep an account open with them anyway. I tried, because I used to use those sorts of things through Trillian... but MSN was always the worst of 'em, after Yahoo IM and AIM.

So I guess you could say that as far as I'm capable of caring... I'm glad.

Migrate it to Skype?

I can handle that sort of change.

I would hate to lose all my contacts, was my first worry upon seeing this thread. Because I used to use it for the majority of my contacts.
