The reapers were boring and stupid because there wasn't anything to them just some stupid monolith of blandness. Why do you think we were always fighting their stooges instead of them?
Because combat gameplay between three relatively ordinary people on foot and a 400m tall death machine would be silly.

You're free to dislike the reapers as villains/plot devices but that's got nothing do with the fact that you spend most of the ME games shooting Geth/mercenaries/Cerberus/husks etc.

They tried to have a reaper fight in ME3 and it turned out kinda silly. Shepard dodge-rolling back and forth on a ledge to avoid lasers from a machine the size of an apartment building because apparently the civilization-destroying menace was too dumb to just sweep the ledge from side to side.
Should have clarified. Bioware wrote themselves into a corner with the reapers. By making one of them be a giant ship, they all had to be giant squid ships. They could have pseudo retconned it in later games and have it just be a smaller dude piloting the ship in latter games. Since the reaper's were supposed to be unfathomable space horrors their motivations could never live up to peoples imagination and I bet that is a big reason why we got space ghost kid and the whole ME3 debacle. That is why we almost always faced off against stooges because they had much clearer motivations. TBH I would have preferred if they were just a race of advanced intergalactic raiders that traveled system to system when they were at their most powerful to strip mine resources and tech. That they were just using the whole space gods thing as a cover and means of phycological warfare could have been interesting.

I'm not going to hate on Bioware games for being samey.
I will.

I like Bioware and I prefer their modern stuff to their old stuff. I had fifty times as much fun with ME3 as I did with KOTOR.

But god damn they really need to break away from that bloody formula of theirs. I think they could make much better games if they (or their bosses) had the spine to try something new.

So many of the tropes they insist on sticking to drag down the quality of their writing. For example, a lot of their characters end up lacking in agency because they can't do anything that prevents them from obediently tagging along after the protagonist. Also, said protagonist is always an infallible Mary Sue who is always right and beloved by all except the villain and/or designated idiot. (Granted, that is mitigated a little by the character creation aspect, so at least I'm playing my Mary Sue rather than somebody else's.)
Doesn't that depend on how you play the game? I know on my first run through the Mass Effect series I pissed a lot of people off by not choosing the "correct" dialog option. I remember Ashley getting a bit pissed off at my Shep because he didn't hate all aliens, or maybe he made fun of her religion or something.
Also, maybe spoilers for the first game but:
I totally killed Wrex on my first run through because I didn't have enough Paragon or Renegade points to save him after I chose the wrong dialog options
I'm not quite sure about 2 and 3. I'm doing a fuck-up Shephard run right now, I chose Sole Survivor and I'm trying to fuck up as much as I can and lose all the squadmates I can. I'm really excited for trying to get my Shephard to be the sole survivor of the ME2 suicide mission, I think that would be a super interesting character to play

Fuck, that got me way hyped. I have been cautiously tiptoeing up to Andromeda's release without getting too invested, but there was a moment in that trailer that made me feel like I was about to jump into the original Mass Effect fresh, back on day one like all those years ago, and now I'm psyched as hell.

So congratulations, trailer, you did your fucking job. God damn it.

It looks ok (character designs notwithstanding). I only ever played ME2 and while I liked it, I didn't like it enough to get 1 or 3. This one looks fun though, even if some gamplay parts scream "Dragon Age: Inquisition.....IN SPAAAAAAAAACE". I sure hope it's not full of inane fetch quests like DA:I was though.

I'll show interest when they finally fix ME3. Until then, they won't get any sympathy from me. Graphics in the trailer look fantastic though, I'll give them that.
