thats right, CHOGM (comonwealth, head, of, government, meeting) is happening in Australia..and more specifically is going on in Perth

which means its going to mess with public transport (and I hope I can get to work without being questioned by security)

and it seems the controversy has already begun, the queen landed in Canberea to see the prime minister

http://www.news.com.au/national/julia-gillard-declines-to-curtsy-to-the-queen/story-e6frfkvr-1226171263322

anyway it seems people are having a fit over the priminister not curstsying at the queen..EVEN THOUGH as I understand she was fully aware of what was and wasnt aproprite, the custey being optional

and I do not fucking get it, I would understand mabye if the prime minister was somhow rude and didnt act apropritely...but this is just fucking stupid

Im not sayign the queen does not deserve respect, but to anyone losing their shit over this..I say "fuck off"...a bunch of twats who seem to have the audacity to assume we should give a shit

the reason this annoys me so much is I actually do not understnad the relvence of the monarchy, especially to Australia, because there ISNT any, granted I have nothing againts the queen personally, or the fact that the family bring joy to a buch people

but again, a bunch of twats start coming out with nonsense like "embarsed Australia" and "disrespectful" its really grinds my gears...makes me want to say "go the fuck to england then if you care so much"

now for those who dont know...miss Gilard is not very popular right now, but regardless I feel sorry for her and am actually really disgusted at this shamless bashing of her, she cops enough bad publicity as it is, we talk about "respect" yet have none of it for our OWN bloody leader (who good or bad as a prime minister...certainly wasnt born into it)

anyway back the relvance thing, Im sure many people have the same attitude, you take away all the bullshit, all the shineyness and ceremony and what are we left with? nothing substansial

ok rant over, discussion value: what do you think of the situation?

But I agree with what you said.

As a monarchy supporting brit, I honestly don't see anything wrong with this. Rudeness, yeah, but simply not courtseying, is not the big deal everyone makes it out to be.

I'd expect the Curtsy being "optional" was like you meeting with the CEO of your company, and not shaking his hand. Sure you don't have to do it, but it's in your interests to do it.

I am. They're basically the biggest family of benefit frauds in this damn country.

Look on the bright side, at least you don't pay your taxes to keep that bunch of inbred halfwits in idle luxury. Compared to that daily injustice, a one-time curtsy faux-pas isn't really all that bad.

Fuck that.

Gillard shouldn't have to curtsy before the British Queen, or anyone else.

Fucking over-privileged inbred anachronisms.

A scandal I say! ... wait no this actually isn't the 18th century.

What I really wonder is why anyone still gives a toss for these royal muppets.

Monarchies, especially the British monarchy is nothing to celebrate. Cousin humping tyrants the lot of em.
Met the Dutch Royal Familly yet?
They literally serve no purpose, not even a celebrational one (in most cases anyway)

Seriously, why we still have a monarchy in a democratic society beats the hell outta me.
But still... I pay my taxes so the Queen can sail in her yacht every now and then.

Now..I'm a monarchist, I believe they and the structures surrounding them play an important role in the UK...

..and yet I really don't see the big deal with this, it's stupid. She showed respect, that's all that matters.

Why on earth not? you totally should say that.

Bowing/courtseying to someone purely because of the circumstances of their birth is disgusting.

It's weird finding out people get paid to write articles about this kind of stuff. I wish I had a job that insipid.

Oh wait, no I don't.

The leader of our country does not have to curtsy to the bloody Queen of bloody England. Their traditions are not our traditions, and a firm handshake shows respect without demeaning or belittling either party.

Besides, I doubt the Queen herself gives any kind of a damn, this is just gossipers gossiping.

Seems like too much fuss over nothing, really.
As a little trivia to fill out this post; I ran head first into the King of Sweden when I was a kid.

And yet the media will make a HUGE deal out of it...

And then the Hamster Wheel will make a joke out of it...

And I will still continue to not give a shit...

I remember when the Chaser boys were banned from making fun of the wedding.

Seriously, the royal family really need to get their heads out of their asses.

Why should anyone have to curtsy to the queen?

I can't believe the lack of a curtsy made headline news. As for the Queen visiting, it is a good thing I guess.

How incredibly silly.

The Queen ceased to matter in any way a very long time ago.

By all means, let's be nice to to the dear old bat, but please don't anyone pretend that it matters in the slightest.
