The World Health Organization has declared the first global flu epidemic in 41 years. Apparently it wasn't a false alarm. Go figure.

And yet I still don't care. I think the part of me that used to panic about this sort of thing is dead.

Well, look at it this way: there's nothing we can do except the normal things one does to combat the flu, ie cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing, drink lots of water, stay in bed when you're sick, etc. If this is a horrible super sickness that's going to take over the world and kill everyone, well, then it's unavoidable and we may as well not worry about it. Most of the world can't do anything about it so we may as well live it up while we can. There's no use worrying if we can't change it.

Well I don't really care. For some reason, I am immune to everything.

I don't ever catch diseases. ^O^

Hmm, someone in my town got swine flu recently :O a whole damn school got shut down for a week for it. If it can invade a little town not even on the map then it must be a pandemic.

I still don't care. Normal flu still infects and kills far more people than swine flu. The only difference is that swine flu kills normal, healthy people, regular flu goes for the weak and weary. I understand that it's not something to ignore, especially in high populated area's I understand that it's important to act accordingly. Luckily for me, I don't live in such an area, so I have the luxury of not caring. I understand why some others do not have that luxury.

How is it a pandemic when it hasnt even reached 20% of the population?

I think there are only about 20k confirmed cases out of the hundreds of millions of people on earth and thats a pandemic?

Wow...

Humanity is getting really wussy.

Apparently Swine Flu has been in my home state almost since this outbreak began...and yet still nothing horrifyingly world-ending has occured.

So it's spread all over the place, big whoop. It's like a more subdued version of SARS at this rate.

Woo? Seriously though it's just because it's spread to (what are we at now?) 3 other countries besides it's country of origin?

Swine Flu? I haven't heard that name in weeks.

I'm not worried - I live in the absolute middle of nowhere, and I have no friends so I never have to go anywhere. Yay me?

Huh, at first I thought the media was just milking this whole swine flu business for all it was worth, ah well it's to late to do anything about it now.

Halt citizen, you are trying to interject logic and common sense that is inappropriate for both the location (the interweb) and subject (mass panic) being discussed here. Please take your accurate definitions and sensible response to minor danger and leave immediately. Good day to you.

Only now? I thought this happened ages ago.
It did seem to take quite a while...sort of kicks it the wind out of the Media trying to make it a scare story...oh well, they can still try...
