Err, you do realize you're talking about a group that has members who once stuck a fit inducing gif on a epilepsy website for no other reason than 'because we can'?

Attempting to protect a sacred cow (particularly when the site in question has more 'special' cattle than most dairy farms) is just going to make raiders want to slaughter it, preferably while generating lulz.
I suppose I'm just not numb to it yet. I'm a little surprised by the response though, it's like if 4chan harassed someone to the point of driving them to suicide everyone would just say "Well that's /b/ for ya". I realize that they have a habit of doing shitty stuff and endangering lives for the lulz, but how having a precedence for it make it okay?
Because they also do good, in their own twisted way.

4chan is like a hurricane, just a force of nature that rips through and then peters out once it gets bored. No use getting mad at it.

And yeah, what the first response said.

It just goes to show that a group of whiny, self-righteous, bleeding vaginas shouldn't pick a fight with a group of immoral, basement-dwelling degenerates.

I think most Tumblr users aren't taking it seriously. I mean there was a petition from them to get 4Chan shut down that got 30,000+ notes but only 2000+ signatures. Meanwhile 4Chan got 5,000 signatures to get all Tumblr users labeled as "Mentally handicapped landwhales" and could you really expect anything less from 4chan?

They are all assholes one but one side can keep itself anonymous, no wonder they are the ones that take things a bit too far.

Poke the bear, you will get mauled.

Circle of life and all, ya know.

Really stupid idea on the behalf of tumblr users. Obviously it's unfortunate for those whom wanted nothing to do with it, but, that'll happen when you share your community with those kinds of people.

I like how they say "Just hack them like you normally would."

Oh man, 4chan making fun of people killing themselves and ACTUALLY trying to get people to kill themselves?

This has never been news, this has been going on for years, have you visited 4chan a lot? You would know that there really isn't such a thing as "too far".
Seriously. You say you're going to kill yourself on /b/, they ask you to post photos. Say it on /pol/ and they ask you to take a few ethnic minorities with you.

Of course they've gone too far. War and death are always too extreme for merely opposing ideals.

Oh wait, no one's been hurt and each side is just mind-fucking each other? This just in: Girl's sleepover pillow fight went too far! A pillow was torn open! Damages estimated in the tens of dollars.
I dunno, according to some tumblr users 3 people killed themselves after getting "triggered" to hard.

lol.
If that's true (and given that it's from Tumblr, I'm highly skeptical of the claim) I think we can classify that under the "Darwin" category.

Assuming that's true, then they weren't long for this world anyway. There's nothing that 4Chan can do that should cause a(n in)sane person to kill themselves.

I mean, if they're teetering on the edge, and 4Chan is the last straw, then it was only a matter of time before something else, like overheating their microwave meal, would push them anyway. Either case would involve a person ignoring professional help for an extreme period of time, to the point where it's clear they prefer death than to get fixed.

Wait, 4Chan still exists?
I thought Reddit killed it in 09 when people realized they could get their funny images without going to a place that requires copious amounts of purell.
Reddit is a place where content is reposted, not created. The content has to come from somewhere - it certainly isn't coming from the massive reddit upvotekarmacirclejerk. 4chan still cranks out more funny shit, memes and pranks than reddit has in its entire (short) history. All reddit can do is pretend to be edgy by taking the lowest-common-denominator memes from places like 4chan and posting them without the rest of the package that 4chan brings.

Without reddit, 4chan is still strong - always has been, and will continue to be. Without 4chan, reddit is nothing but a bunch of talentless hacks reposting content and circlejerking each other with upvotes for the same tedious copypasta.

I think calling this a "war" is pretty over the top. I haven't seen any signs of this war and none of the people I follow have complained about it. Tumblr has about 193 million blogs and this "war" has likely impacted only a minuscule amount of those blogs. This is high school-level petty drama.
