[HEADING=2]Weird things in my hometown[/HEADING]

Hey Escapists, how are things going? Okay yeah, this thread is about some weird things that have been happening in my hometown recently and also for you to recount similar experiences of your own.

So for the last couple of days, there's been quite a few military vehicles hanging around, particularly in the town centre. Now, these aren't necessarily an unusual sight since we have a place where they practice shooting and manuovres and what-not in our county but never usually this many. Rather than just travelling along the roads as they usually do, they appear to be actively staying in the town, standing around the places people congregate. Still, wouldn't have really thought anything much about it until what happened this afternoon.

So, me and my family were walking back from having lunch in a pub to celebrate my grandfather's birthday when we see this guy with his arms up. From a distance he looked kinda dirty, like a tramp, and there were two officials (couldn't tell whether police or army) pointing guns at him. Now, this is unusual as I'm from the UK and here, firearms are only brought out in particularly dangerous situations. The man certainly didn't look armed from where we were. They said something to him which we couldn't hear, then bundled him into a military van and drove off. That was the end of it, well as far as we saw.

The weirdest thing about all this is that when I got home, I went straight online to check the news to find out what happened and got... nothing. Not a sausage. More than six hours later, I still can't find anything related to the incident on BBC news, any of the papers, even the local Echo. You'd think that something serious enough to warrant an armed response would be on the local news sites, I mean every damn car crash in this area gets coverage. So... what the hell exactly happened? Anyhow, enough about me, over to you Escapists!

So Escapists, what unexplained things have happened in your local area recently?

Thats a bit odd, I've noticed a couple military vehicles about.

Just a couple mind, passing through. I've also been seeing the police around a fair bit more than usual in my journeys, I mean they're usually out over the holidays but there's been more than usual it seems.

This is purely an assumption, but by what you've written there i'd say that the 'tramp' was probably a soldier who had fucked up (if guns were involved i assume it was something violent, such as assault) and tried to do a runner from base to hide in town. The guys with guns were probably Military Police and it won't be on the news as it will be considered an internal incident.

Well, no military, but there has been a flu outbreak here in Canada recently. Over 600 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in Alberta. 7 people dead, last time I checked.

We live fairly close to MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL which is also I believe the central command for the East Coast and Southern areas of the US (a lot of joint ops training goes on there and tons of high up military personnel can be seen on base at times). Here recently I've seen quite a few C-130's pass over our home, Air-Force, Army and Marine marked and low enough to be identified. Also seen a few of the AWACS planes circling overhead and more than the average fighter jets of all current makes doing maneuvers in what looks to be heavy training or patrols.
Also the local reserve stations have been heavily active and seen a few HMMWV's in multiple configurations (rocket, radar, standard with top-guns and the medic versions) around town. And one of the reserve stations is artillery and I saw them loading/gearing up for something whether its a field-training exercise or something else I couldn't tell you. Didn't think much about it til I put them all together now it seems suspicious...

We've been having a lot of really bad flu outbreaks in Wisconsin too. That time of the year and what not.
Haven't heard anything about deaths, but loads of people haven't been showing up to work or school.

It must be really bad too. My friends parents who work at the hospital have said some people have been coming in looking almost blue. Don't know if that's from the flu, or the cold outside though.

One of the things that SAS get used for is to make mock runs at vital installations. This is to test the the effectiveness of defenses. You may not have an installation in your home town but the SAS don't start their run from the doorstep but start from a major city.

A couple of Nightgaunts got out of the local holding facility a few nights ago and it took the proper authorities a few hours to round them up. That in itself isn't such a big deal, it happens from time to time. What weirds me out is that the *bodies* of their victims were returned to their families!
Something *has* to be up with that.

I've seen a few military vehicles around here as well, but that's not particularly strange for here. TravsballdotJPG is probably close.

What is strange though is the amount of people getting colds/ the flu around here. More than the usual winter stuff XD

Coughs and calls in sick all around 4 people were out of work today. They'll all workaholics so that was a bit strange.

Well, it's more probably just unsettling than abnormal, but earlier today I saw a guy get gunned down by some local cops across the street from my hotel window. Course, this is in the US, so I guess that might be the norm. Must have been sick or dangerous though because the guys who picked up the body were wearing some haz-mat suits.

Man, that's fucking nuts. You get any pictures?

I kept hearing a ton of sirens around my place today, but hadn't really thought anything of it. I do live quite close to a hospital, but it was more than usual.

I was out in a bar with some friends last week and noticed that the entire place was covered in sniffing people, I had a couple of cold and flu shots just to be safe afterwards.

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of helicopters flying over my area recently.

What they're doing, I have no idea.

Bummer. My American friends mentioned a Norovirus outbreak in North Carolina. But I didn't know Wisconsin was also having flu issues. Hopefully no one dies over there.
