hey, lets give Alex Rider a girlfriend two books early and get her really involved with the action because reasons.

fucking stormbreaker, piece of crap film.

OT: I only read one of the books as a teen and enjoyed it, as long as they cast artemis and butler well they should ok.
This so much this. The first movie I thought of when I read the title of this thread was Stormbreaker. I enjoyed Alex Rider so much in my early teens and that film was just horrible. Tried to take a comedic route as well and obviously stood no chance of having a sequel to it.

OT: Disney will never stick to the original series, it isn't going to be marketed to people who have already read the books. They will alter it heavily to be more child like and ignore the darker aspects so they can release merchandise for it all and then re-release the original books in a special new "Disneyfied" cover so people would pick them up. I reckon they would be going for a quick cash in rather than go for the whole series anyway.

Not going to lie, I'm excited about this. Obviously I'm aware of the possibility of them ruining it, but I loved the Artemis Fowl books when I was younger. That said, I never actually read further than The Opal Deception. I thought The Eternity Code was a great end to the story, and while I liked Opal Deception well enough, I didn't think it was really necessary. Anybody care to weigh in as to the quality of the other four books? If they're good I'll probably give them a look.

The only actor I've ever deciding on being in one of these movies is David Tennant as Foaly. Everthing else is just in the dark.

EDIT: Oh, and if it's animated, Tara Strong as Holly Short. That's all.
If it's live action, Chloe Moretz would be my choice for Holly. Tennant as Foaly would be fantastic, though.
Well I just noticed you asked for how the other books were and I...think they were great. But I seem to be in a minority on that. To me they stood up really well from the first book to the last and I loved every one of them and was even sad that book 8 was going to be the last one.

But that's just me.

Also as to Chloe Moretz being Holly...for me personally...no. Chloe's only 16. She looks way too young for the part. To me Holly seemed to look to be more in late 20s. I mean Holly's at least 80 years old, she's gotta have some age on her, but that's also just me.

Oh... this is not gonna end well.

I don't know how, I don't know why, but I *know* this will get fucked up somewhere.

Excuse me while I jizz in my pants from excitement.
On a more serious note, tentatively excited, because I've been a fan of this series for over 3 years now, and have read every book in the series at least twice, and have "fairy language(it's just a alphabet decoder thing)" all but memorized.

I think Asa Butterfiled would be pretty fitting as Artemis, at the age he is in the first book. He certainly looks the part.

Oh my god he's like a tiny Benedict Cumberbatch I can't tell if this is amazing or horrible.

Actually, I did think of someone else. Andy Serkis as Mulch Diggums, light on the CGI (apart from the whole unhinging his jaw thing), heavier on makeup. I don't know if you've ever seen Burke & Hare, but close to that. Only with a lot more beard.
