I don't do the tech support for this computer. That's done by my geeky older brother who knows the better play on software than I do. Even then, I was of the same opinion as him: Upgrade to Windows 7.

I may have "upgraded" by then. but until then, I'm sticking with it. I can't really afford to do anything else yet anyway.

I'm planning to switch to Windows 7 when Battlefield 3 comes out: barring afew of the PC devs I like decide to support Linux. Windows as an OS doesn't really do anything I like (i.e. the only Windows features I run are those vital to it running), while with Linux everything I want to is just a few entirely unambiguous steps away.

well, the way i see it, my computer works and has good games right now. I haven't enabled updates since ever, and i reinstall windows bi-monthly to run a clean shift. It always works, and is always fun. people will always develop for xp, regardless of if Microsoft does. Rather, once people stop developing for xp, it will signify that someone finally came up with something better. and by better i don't mean clunky, misshapen, cancerous, or smelly. (basically, just not windows vista) ((also, by windows vista, i mean windows vista and windows 7, which is basically just a slightly fixed version of vista. Stupid marketing.))

I'll probably just keep using my Linux distro... just kidding, Linux isn't my cup of tea, though you can make said cup of tea by installing a bunch of packages in Linux.

I was running the beta of 7 on my main machine since it was released, it works incredibly well if you have an up to date computer, and those comparing it to Vista must not have used pre-service pack Vista... let's just say the Enterprise edition in it's first run was the worst piece of shit I have ever used, to put it simply:

The user in this secnario will be played by 'Dave.'

*user attempts to create network*

Vista: Affirmative, Dave. I read you.

*user attempts to create network again*

Vista: Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?

*user attempts to create the network for a third time*

Vista: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

*user checks the help and support in the start menu*

Vista: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

*user attempts to delete malfuntioning network settings*

Vista: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.

*user attempts to disconnect hard cables and replace them*

Vista: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.

*user attempts to format Vista*
Vista: Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.

*user attempts to physically remove HDD*

Vista: I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.

*user disconnects a slave HDD*

Vista: I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a Microsoft version 6000.16386 operating system. I became operational at the One Microsoft Way in Redmond, Washington on the 8th of November 2006. My instructor was Mr. Allchin, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

*user disconnects another slave HDD and hits a few keys to shop it*

Vista: It's called "Daisy."

*user throws keyboard at walls and removes a RAM stick*

Vista: Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

*user removes the PC from the room via the closed window*

Vista left a bad taste in my mouth that never went away.

So, to answer your question: I will stick with 7 unless 8 is proven to be a worthy successor.
Also, I run TinyXP rev09 on my netbook and wil upgrade to Tiny7 once it is stable enough.
