Nope, the best superpower is Mary Sue plot armour. With that I become the unstoppable, unbeatable, genius hero whom everyone loves and adores and succeeds at all he does. No one can trick me, I know who the bad guy is, I never trust the traitor. My best friend is now Deus Ex Machina and my specialist skill is anything I try.

Time Manipulation? Pah. I will have a dozen ways to combat anything you try to do to me, and if all else fails I will just become immune to your powers as if by magic because THE PLOT DEMANDS IT!

Look what it did to Hulk Hogan, or Wolverine...

The only flaw with Time Control powers as said up top if you're body is immune to the effects your power is doing on the outside/environment. It's not going to do any good if you can freeze time and you're frozen too. I agree though as long as the kinks were worked out potentially be the ultimate super power. However I like the person who just suggested Mary Sue plot armor. Of course I would like the ability to change things in the event I hated and wanted to "adjust" the event in question. There are several things right now in Nier I would love to use this power on. Plot wise in the game now of the game itself. That game is awesome.

well really the ultimate power is reality warping but that's too much to ask for i guess. but other from that i'd like trouble free time manipulation i would have to assume that it could work if you had a small bubble around you that let time flow freely so that you could move, see and breath normally

There are actually cards that do that! :D

Reality warping is the best super power, considering it's basically doing the impossible. Stopping time, manipulating time, manipulating the four fundamental forces of reality, traveling faster than light, shaping the world in your image, rewriting the laws of physics, etc. If pushed enough you can make the universe and beyond your sandcastle.

So how is that different from Mary Sue plot armor? Because I want reality warping powers... That would have to be the ultimate super power. I agree with this person

Okay. Couple the Mary Sue plot armor with the reality warping powers and... You're basically the most bitching-est super being ever!

It really depends on the limitations on it. Is it global time control? regional? Can you speed up time in one place, and slow it in another? Are you always affected by your own time manipulation, are you immune to it, or are you selectively vulnerable to it? What time travel model is in place, and how does it handle paradox? How do things in different temporal frames of reference interact? How much effort does it take you to manipulate time? Can you rewind time from a point after your own death, and hence prevent it from occurring? If you travel back in time, are there two of you, or do you become the past self? how much control do you have over the rate of your time traversal, and what are the bounds on it. Can you travel back before you were born, or before you obtained these powers? Do you age while doing these time shenanigans, so your apparent lifespan is shorter? And thats not even considering the fact that time and space are really all spacetime, so time manipulation could be space manipulation as well. Power over time and space, thats essentially godhood.

Basically, "time manipulation" as a superpower is so vague as to be almost meaningless. It can be so restrictive so as to be of limited utility, have inherent balancing factors to make it on-par with other powers, or so limitless that you are a literal god.

I mean, right? I'm surprised this doesn't come up more in these megaproductive hypothetical threads of ours. Everyone draws party lines at Flight and like, strength or some shit. Laser eyes, I don't know.

My point is, why isn't this EVERYBODY'S first choice for a superpower? The implications are far-reaching to the point of absurdity, you would effectively be omniscient. And who among us, even the most our-choices-make-us-who-we-are self-determinist, doesn't have that one thing? that one nagging, inescapable thing that we'd give anything to go back and change, or undo, or re-do. it's got to be more than just me.

and so what of the minutia? the mechanics of it all, so to speak. would you rewind like a VHS tape, retracing all your steps until reaching the moment you were looking for? perhaps fast-forwarding for a quick peek at what's to come before snapping back to make use of it. Or would it happen in flashes, like selecting a chapter on a DVD, an instant jumping-to? or would you merely exist outside of time, and be able to stroll into any moment at will?

and freezing time, what would that entail? would you also freeze the laws of physics in place? if a piece of paper caught in a draft were frozen in time, could you, outside of this frozen state, be able to pluck the paper from the air as though it were being handed to you, or would it be as if welded in place to the frozen aired molecules? Ooh! would AIR freeze in time too? would you need to breathe? could you bring others, conscious, into this frozen time state as well?

let's put some bogus science to this, shall we?
matter munipulation trumps time control as you can control time and all other forms of energy around you.

Sorry to be a stick in the mud but time control is effectively impossible even as a fantasy, when you stop time to change or manipulate it you also stop oxygen particles and all that stuff so unless you can hold your breath for a very long time not only is time control impossible it's also impractical.

Really all I ever need is the Saints Row 3 perk/upgrades and the phone to go with it.
Immunity to fire, bullets, vehicles and falling.

Oh and I have an infinite supply of cars, helicopters and space jet thingies (provided I still get the $46,000 an hour...)

TIme control... You'd need some sort of automatic time stopping device though to make it worthwhile, i.e. when you are in danger, time autonomously stops and lets you get out the way! Otherwise you will still be vulnerable to being shot in the back, or anything else unexpected that causes insta-death!

I'm presuming there that having a good super power instantly means that there will be bad guys trying to end you, and supervillains trying to take over the world/universe/small town, that need stopping!

control light
if you control light, your indirectly control time(relativity theory i think)
if you control light, then you can also control invisibly, create images that arn't there
light is connected to heat, so if you have light, you could control heat aswell
and so on

Time control is a neat ability IF you are creative with it and are crafty in the ways you use such power. Some notable examples include:

* Accelerated healing(or reverse the damage that was dealt by returning your body to a previous healthy state),

* Delayed aging,

* Slowing down time in order to obtain mastery in certain skills (ride helicopter, becoming a kung-fu master, etc.),

* Make the durability of certain items or weapons infinite (i.e. swords will never dull and you keep reusing the same magazine of bullets), and

* Briefly converse/bring back certain historical figures to get some information off of them.

Time control isn't the ultimate superpower.

PROBABILITY control is the ultimate superpower.

Think about it; if you could alter probabilites of anything happening, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. Why? Well, by definition, "Impossible" is synoymous with 0%. If you were to change a 0% chance into a 100% chance....

See where I'm goin' with this?
