One happened this morning and should of made minor circles around the news. A more powerful one (not anything enough to nock over a glass or do anything but shake the foundation a bit) hit only a couple minutes ago. Even in Earthquake prone California, two Earthquakes of at least 4.0-4.5 each isn't a normal occurance. I am only a bit worried because our little state is do for a MASSIVE Earthquake sometime between now and 2030, so this may be an "early preview" of the big one comming early, so I would suggest that you make sure your Earthquake insurance is inline, and that you stay away from San Fransisco, since that place will be demolished if anything over a 8.0 hits (mostly do to the fact that half the city is built on little more than sand along the shore.

My suggestion? Run like all fuck. Seriously, you do NOT want to be there when the big one hits. Hell, I live in Texas and it's likely to ruin my day when it does.

Washington is supposedly due for a huge one, boy oh boy will that be fun.

Probably should learn how to swim before then.

Seems like another one went off.

An aftershock of 3.9

Don't know what any of that means since I'm not too keen on things like this.

I wonder, since I'm in San Jose, if we're gonna feel it? :/

Ooh, that's not good at all. Hopefully nothing too big happens.

and this is what happens when people build near faultlines. Not much you can do about it.
Well heaps of places in NZ are built on volcanoes, hopefully nothing happens :p. Hell Taupo is around a super-volcano!

In Cali, most homes have Earthquake protection. I was playing Quake when the 2nd quake happened. Heh. And we have some dormant volcanoes here aswell, like Mt. Diablo and so on.

Also - it's not going to be a MASSIVE earthquake, it's going to be something around oh 6.5-8.7 at the least. Not Japan strong but, you get the point. Next week is a Earthquake weather week, so keep your eye out.

earthquakes? pah, not a single fuck shall be given that day, more then likely it'll be a .00001 feeling, we never get that stuff around here at all.

Hey, we heard you like...

No, I don't really need to do that.

OT: Multiple quakes in a day that you can feel is kind of unusual, but I'm not sure it means you should evacuate or anything. Still, basic preparations like having emergency food and water, and the insurance squared away, are never a bad thing. It's quite likely that nothing will happen though. Small quakes can actually relieve stress on a faultline and keep the strain from building to a point where a major quake will happen.

Hollister, for example, experiences creep, which is more or less constant movement of the fault, so you could say that there is a continuous earthquake going on in Hollister and has been for several years, but because of that the strain never builds to the point where the energy release is measureable. On the other hand, Seattle gets fewer quakes than San Francisco but the maximum intensity in Seattle can be a couple hundred times greater (in terms of energy release).

This is why I'm glad I live in Japan ;-)
Seriously we had 10th biggest earthquake in history and 99% of the damage was from te tsunami not the quake. Japan is built for quakes. Seriously after the ride that was march 11th I was wondering why the trains weren't running since nothing was damaged, didn't know how big it was at the time. Also the aftershocks for like 3 weeks were bigger than most regular quakes and I got so used to it that I'd sleep through quakes that would roll me around on my futon. The ground pretty much didn't stop moving for like a week and a half, I actually didn't use my projector for a while because the image would be shaking too often.

However California which does not have the standards that Japan has... well I'd worry even during what is my equivalent 3-4 shindo. Which to me is just a minor annoyance, again I'm like "stop shaking i'm trying to watch tv here" ;-)

I live in Richmond which is a city right beside Vancouver. We are already below sea level and we are aware that our dike cant withstand the earthquake that is due. Their was one recently on Vancouver island, not sure how big it was but we felt it here and we are quite a ways away.

Meh. To be honest they weren't that bad. The first one happened at 2:40 ish California time and it was seriously like "rumble...rumble...BAM. BAM." I was in line at Safeway and the woman checking me out screamed and ran. I stood there and said "Oh. Yay. Earthquake."

It was centered about 2 miles from where I live. Most people don't really care.

The second one I didn't even feel.

I'm surprised this is making so much news tbh

Big friggin deal, California has earthquakes. Who gives a shit? They're always gonna have those, its part of the damn geology of the landscape.
