So, Uh... WoW: What class/race would you peg me as? Server suggestions?

In one of the many IRC discussions on World of Warcraft, I threw out there the question of what class/race/side I should be.

I instantly got pegged as a Tauren.
Hilarity ensued.

Really, though, I've been on and off contemplating trying out WoW, but as with most games, I'll play more if I can get behind the character I'm playing. So, what race do you think would suit me, and what class is a good one to start with?

(Oh, and if you're going to scream, "WoW is evil," do so in one of the many other threads about that topic.)

Don't pick a hybrid class, ie warlock, hunter. Too much, too soon. And don't go Alliance, they're unhelpful tards. If you still want to be a quote-unquote good guy, Tauren is your best choice. Shaman is a bit advanced for a first toon. Warrior is a good first toon. It's simple, straightforward and is the easiest to learn. Once you get the subtleties of the game down, pick a caster and learn how to fight w/o weapons. Once you learn Warrior you can go Druid which is hybrid of the main three subclasses that exist in the game of caster, healer, and melee.

I preferred playing as human. They're just right.

As for starting out, I'd go for a priest. Simple, you can heal yourself, etc. There's a bit to it when it comes to dungeons and stuff and if you want that simple you're best being a warlock with it's 1-2-3-4, rinse repeat DPS.

Im a human paladin and I like being one =)

I don't know, do you like responsibility in a group?

If you dont pick a damage dealer like a hunter or a rogue. If you do, go for somthing healerish or Tanky. Druids and Paladins can pretty much be anything (did not know when I myself started) But Warriors, Priests and Shaman can take on those responsibilities too and with sometimes much better results.

I enjoy WoW alot, the story is interesting, theres enough nice people hidden in there somewhere to keep me logging in for some fun and theres plenty to do if you know to look for it.

If I'm gonna peg you straight off the Bat...Night Elf Druid.

And none of the Races are outright evil, including the Bloodelves, they're just very arrogant.
The funny thing about the Horde and Alliance is the war is based on petty grudges that evolve into much bigger conquests for revenge. The Horde are just as well established and friendly as the Alliance. Anyone badmouthing the other just has insecurities about the side they picked.
For the Alliance! (but not King Varian! Lady Jaina for teh wins!)

Human rogue. Vanish=get out of anything free card. Plus stun locks are pretty handy.
Pallys are easy to play though.

Blood elf hunter.
'nuff said :D

Or Blood Elf Mage.
But... Blood elves are all like... Evil, corrupted elves, aren't they?
Nah they're just pissed off red ones who hate the world ever since most of the High Elves died

Its all a personal preference to be honest. Don't worry too much about the race if you go Alliance (All their Racial Abilities suck quite badly)

I'll try and break it down for you.

Human - Dont pick unless you NEED to be human
Dwarfs - Nice starting race, good selection of classes.
Gnome - A terror in PVP as you cant target the little blighters
Night Elf - Consists of Hunters and Rogues. That is all.
Draenei - The Alliance's race that lets them be a shaman.
Orc - Big brute, good racial, nice starting race.
Troll - Respect trolls, they good.
Tauren - Nature lovers, kinda neutral but allied with Horde thanks to getting help and land from Orcs.
Forsaken/Undead - Good rogues, and cannibalistic.
Blood Elf - Good racial for any class using magic (which is all of them for this race)

Warrior - Tanks, are absolute FIENDS in PVP with Titans Grip and Dual Two Handers
Rogue - Nuking DPS, stealthy obv. Good for soloing dungeons endgame for quests.
Mage - Nuking Magic DPS, squishy but possibly the best DPS in game.
Warlock - Pet class, mainly DoT damage and pet damage. Expect abuse from people.
Hunter - Kinda the same as Warlocks. Pet class, you may end up falling into a generic skill circuit. (Press 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, etc)
Druid - Shapeshifter, can do most roles but not as well as a specialist
Paladin - A Warrior-Priest. Normally relegated to OH.
Shaman - Can DPS nicely with Enchancement
Priest - Do you NEED an explaination? Healer.
DK - Cant say too much, I quit just before WotLK

Hope this helps you decide. You will have fun playing the game but it may steal you life. Prepare for it.

Gnome Mage.

Gnome because it's a gnome.
Mage because burning stuff with your mind is fun.

Fraid that info is a tad out of date now =)
All three of the Paladin specs are now very viable for raiding so we don't get shoved into that, Ohlol Pallys r supposed to heal, thing. And Dual speccs now make juggling those three twice as fun.

Death Knights are at the moment highly inbalanced, and need some adjustments which are on the way shortly, they're feindishly scary PvPers, unbeatable tanks and their dps can take on any decent requirement anywhere. You need to have a level 55 character to make one first though so it's not an issue for Erana. But be prepared for some nerfing.

All the classes are quite alot more balanced than they used to be, so whatever you pick now you'll have a space to do somthing in a group.

I don't know you so it's hard to say. but you have many slots so just go nuts and try out many different chars. I think it's 10 chars max per server and 50 in total accross all servers.

Just make sure you pick one of the roleplaying servers since that tend to keep the amount of lol-kids and charcters named "IPWNU" down a bit... makes it a wee bit easier to get in character.

Also if you are the vindictive sort, get on an RP-PvP server so you can get even with gankers and wankers. ;)

So, I've now gotten the free trial. (streaming download- Hi-tech!)
The Escapist community map says nothing about which server to choose...

I found Wildhammer and Thunderhorn to be quite nice, but if you want to RP to avoid the young plague, then Steamwheedle Cartel is quite good.
