I mean have you seen gaming discussion? Feels like the mods have just up and left, the Escapist seems to be on life support.

They pretty much aren't around. The escapist has fired most of their staff and are running a skeleton crew. That skeleton crew is evidently ill equipped to moderate this site. Those mods that remain can hardly be blamed, I think since there are so few of them. First it was religion and politics with either a bot or a troll and now gaming discussion with some spambot in a language that I don't regocnise.

There is a topic in wild west discussing what other boards you might want to go to, after this one gets shut down or gets entirely overwhelmed by spam. Such a thing is bound to happen pretty soon, unless something major changes.

I'd volunteer for the post, but only because I secretly crave power and would slash this dwindling community's numbers even further for political disagreement/petty vendettas/personal boredom. I can only hope the recent invasion of the MACHINES just means the mods are too busy trick and treating, not that the site has finally given up.

I know we are all as dust before the wind, and this site will meet it's maker at some point, I'd prefer the inevitable to be delayed as long as possible. For all its flaws, I'm quite fond of this place and really can't think of anywhere else gaming-related I'd engage with.

There is a bit of a difference between there being so much messages that some minor infractions may slip between the cracks and leaving completely obvious disruptive posts up for half a week. Sure, that included the weekend, but there were already several of the spam topics posted as far back as Thursday.

OT: I think the whole text based forums are going to die out in general. I forsee a future where forums will be real time video chats with real people. Give it a decade or so when some intelligent university student designs it and becomes a billionaire. Kind of like how facebook came along.

Niche market? Hardly. I wouldnt be so bold to say half of all people, but a large chunk of people are definatly on the very introverted side of the spectrum, we just live in an extrovert world.

I'm sorta starting to get that feeling as well. I flagged many posts, sent messages to several mods, and nothing occurred, despite the posts being obvious rule breaks. I sent a message to 1 mod, and while he saw it, he never responded. Sent the same message to N0e before that, and it's still sitting there, unread. Awesome.

The sudden inclusion of the Wild West forum without any discussion with the mod team pissed off a lot of the mods too. This was to the point some just up and left, and those who remained were unsure of the choice, but stayed on anyways. So if whoever created it is making decisions without consulting the mods, or anyone else for that matter, one has to wonder just what is going on in the background. It comes off as very hand-off-ish. "Do what you want, I don't care anymore" is what that said to a lot of the folk here.

If it's gonna die, I'm mixed between letting it bleed slowly, or just taking it out back and getting this over with. I'm not really sure where I'd go though

The current release cycle at work has been kicking my ass, so I haven't had time to do any moderating in the past few months. With a move and a wedding on the horizon, I don't see my life getting any less complicated in the near future either. From what I can tell there are very few active mods left. Barbas and Nuke are still kicking around, but not sure about the rest.
