Thanks, for all the posts, I really don't think I'm as bad as a sexist or racist person, as I don't think they genuinely have a 'phobia of women or other races, so much as a feeling they are not as important. (or some other twist on dislike)

I certainly don't make fun of them, although I did at school, but I was as guilty as everyone back then, I was at school during the Blue Peter 'Joey Deacon' idiocy, and I'm of the firm belief that kids are evil little bastards, for evidence, see lawoftheplayground.com

I certainly don't do it now as I know they're not choosing to act as they do, and that's the same reason most discrimination is bad, including not liking kids for being evil little bastards. (That's saved someone a post pointing out my hypocrisy :D)

If he's amused, then it's a different story. But if he was doing it just to be a jerk to CJ and traumatize him...that would be messed up.

I don't like to admit it, but I'm extremely creeped out by anyone who's visibly mentally ill, which makes me out to be an unfeeling bastard when faced with anyone with say, Down's Syndrome or someone in Stephen Hawking's situation, unmoving in a wheelchair.
Don't worry, I think all normal people are. Most people lie about it though and in defense become overly sympathetic to compensate even when the sympathy isn't needed or helpful.

When my uncle became paralyzed dealing with him in his wheelchair was a bit awkward at first. I mean, where is he coming from? Is he overly sensitive about it or is angry about being handicapped now? After hanging out with him on an extensive snowboarding trip I quickly got over the awkward distance and I didn't even regard his wheelchair with any concern.

Oddly enough though, knowing how much he appreciated my apathy I now tend to apply it to all handicapped people. I don't treat any handicapped person differently and to a sympathetic person it would seem callous or mean but handicapped/disabled people don't need our sympathy or concern, just our respect.

I believe we feel uncomfortable around the handicapped partly because we feel guilt, or have an empathy for them that we cannot display.

Also let's not forget that we all fear the unknown.

Me to. Well not petrified (I don't wave my arms screaming at the sight of a bee) but I won't feel safe until I know It's dead.

Yeah thats me too, I get the hell away from it and let other people kill it. I can't keep calm around them, I keep looking over my shoulder and stuff.

As far as I know, the only phobia I have is the dark.

Seriously, I'm so easily spooked, I ran screaming down the street once. Screaming at nothing.
That wasn't even when I was ten, it was, like, 2 years ago.

However, I feel perfectly fine around disabled/mental/learning difficult people, but I've grown up around them. I'm only wary of them if they're the kind that get violent.

I for one, love the dark, I rarely even use the lamps in my room I prefer the dark for some odd reason, maybe I'm just trying to avoid reflections in the monitor ;P
although walking through a pitch black forest on my way home in the middle of the night can get a bit creepy...

Fear often comes from not understanding something.
So if I'm afraid of something I try to learn as much as possible about it, that removes ALOT of fear.

I'm afraid of mannequins. My aunt had one in her hallway, never shut the door to my room so the bugger stared at me all night long. Same problem with baby dolls.

I wouldn't classify my phobia as a phobia of heights, but I tend to avoid high places because I do have a phobia of falling.
