My brother picked one up at launch annnnnd played through Ryse (which he said was boring and didn't look any better than current gen) annnnd now there's basically nothing. We already had a 360 and all the games on XB1 so far, until October that is, have been ports. He doesn't have cable, so the cable box thing was kind of pointless. I don't know if Microsoft actually thought this through: if you sell a console to the mainly 18-34 market, you're gonna attract some college folks. People in college are poor (also, poor people are poor) and thus cable doesn't matter much to them. The same always-online element that they eliminated is also a problem for people watching TV. Don't get why they're treating games as ancillary.
I have also been told that the Kinect has a lot of issues with identifying words, from my bro and others. My bro has a slight speech impediment, he unplugged the Kinect because it wouldn't listen to anything he said.
When Destiny came out and he found out he had to renew XBGold just to get online to play it, he turned it off and hasn't turned it back on again.
I just read the other day that they're finally releasing a 1 TB version of the console. Way to catch up, Microsoft. Course, I could say the same thing for Sony. That's really the only reason I'm waiting on the PS4.
My advice is to keep your 360 or, at best, grab a PS4. At the very least, you can play Outlast.
No can do. This'll seem petty, but I made my ultimate decision based on my Gamertag. I don't want to lose it, plus I like the little Achievement Unlocked when I do something in a game.
*hope I formatted that right, kind of new to forums* EDIT: I didn't do it right. Hmm. Apologies.
Not petty at all. That's the same reason I bought so many multi-platform games on the 360. I see now you were just asking about the merits of the system, that was my bad. Apologies. Microsoft burned me with the reveal though, and my brother got it because all his friends wanted to keep their gamertags too. Then he got bored with CoD and it turned into a brick. Again, this will probably change next month, what with all the huge games coming out, but still. I would recommend keeping the 360 til we see what happens with the XB1. The 360 is a games machine; the XB1 is an entertainment system (CF: Yahtzee). Nearly everything coming out in October will be prettier on XB1, but is still available for 360 (cept maybe indies, but I'll leave it up to you whether that's the system-seller or not). They're not abandoning it yet. Unless you thought the one thing Assassin's Creed was missing was a focus on MMO-style gaming, us current-gen-ers are still getting a new one too. Can't figure out why there's not much reporting on it... (hashtag gamergate)
My personal plan has been to look at the past. We usually get a much better value (see 360 at launch vs. $250 250gb wireless 360 now) a few years into the generation. They've already committed to at least 3 years of support for 360. Keep your gamertag, friend. I want to keep mine too. For some reason, achievements work better than trophies for me as well. I feel your pain on choosing, but this industry relies on us consumers not being patient. That's why we get GOTY editions that often cost less than the game did at launch, with way more content. Patience is key here. But if you have the extra cash on hand, have at it. Come back and let us know what you thought.
Oh, oh, one more thing too: games have to install before you can play them now. Not like the 360. If you've ever popped a disc in a PS3, you know how bloody annoying this is. Especially when you're unsure of the game's quality. It took a half hour+ to install Ryse, and golly was the time wasted not worth it.
