So, what console DID get you excited?

Well, with all this talk of the PS4 and Xbone not meeting out [impossible] expectations, I was wondering what console did appear that literally had you gobsmacked, and maybe even rushing out and buying, launch day?

For me, the first one was the Dreamcast. Compare the visuals of a Dreamcast game to an N64, Saturn or PSX game and.... well, you can't compare!

Seeing pictures of Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure, and Shenmue, before launch, was genuinely like looking into the future. Did the console deliver? Yes! Not only did the console blow me away with numerous titles that not only looked damn good, but played well, it was the console that introduced me to online gaming with the likes of Chu Chu Rocket, Phantasy Star Online, and Quake 3 Arena, years before Xbox Live became the standard.

Secondly, embarrassingly to say, I was one of the many people whom fell victim to the Wii' gimmicky hype machine. I was a strong advocate of the gamecube, and assumed that Nintendo would continue to make games of the same quality, but with real innovation.

Did it deliver? Of course not. Bought the console with Zelda, Monkey Ball, Red Steel, and a few others. By the second month, I'd gone weeks without playing the thing, so I gave it to my mum.

So, what was yours guys?

Playstation 2, and PS3 to a certain extent. I've been a Sony fan since the late 90's with the original Playstation console.

Unfortunately, the PS4 isn't doing a whole lot to impress me. It still isn't as bad as the Xbone, though

For me it was the Ps3. I owned an xbox at the time and my parents didn't let me play a lot of rated M games and I was getting bored of Devil may Cry 4 and Lost Planet, and seeing inFamous got me so excited. It was the first time I ever saved up close to $450 just by myself for it. Best purchase ever in my opinion.

the last console to get me legit excited? probably when I broke down, traded in all my old stuff, scrounged and saved for my first 360... nothing's matched that.. but I'd say I was equally excited when I first got my PS2 and original Xbox (I wanted KOTOR so bad.. bought the system just for that game basically)

It's all nothing compared to excitement of gaming as a kid though. I'm pretty sure I almost died the first time I played a super nintendo.. and I think the system that got me the MOST excited was the Sega Saturn... even though I never owned it and only ever played it once - the IDEA of cd based gaming that wasn't.. THIS

Was absolutely the most amazing thing ever to me.

Probably the N64. When it was coming out, I was still too young to work legally, so my parents made me an offer months prior before the N64 came out (thanks to good ol' Nintendo Power for letting me know). Essentially they said whatever I saved up, when it was released in September, they'd match it. They thought I wouldn't be able to wait for over 9-10 months for the console to come out.

9-10 months later, I hadn't used a cent of my allowance, much to my parents chagrin.

Got it two days before the launch date (thank you, lazy sales clerks at Toys R Us) with Mario 64. Best September ever.

I was giddy as a schoolgirl when I bought my N64. My family's NES, SNES, and Genesis were gifts from relatives or friends for the whole family, but my N64 was mine! Sure, I bought it with birthday money, but dammit, it still counts! Still have the bastard, too. Works perfectly, though the analog sticks on the controllers(the original controllers I bought with it) are shot to hell. Not bad, to be quite honest, for stuff bought about twelve years ago.

I don't think I've been truly excited for a console since the N64. I was happy to acquire consoles that came after that, sure... but I wasn't excited for them.

For the record, my expectations weren't "impossible" by any stretch. I just would like it if the xbox they want me to buy isn't basically laughing in my face for being poor. Microsoft clearly doesn't want me as a customer, so I'll just "leech" as much as I can while 360 games are still cheap and abundant, and then bid them adieu.

The PS3 got me quite excited though I wasn't able to get one until years later.
But the Vita on the other hand got me hyped like there was no tomorrow and it lived up to my expectations.

The closest to excitement I've gotten is my reaction to the PS4, which is a mix of mainly hopeful and wanting, but with a tinge of fear and disappointment.

Xbox One turned me off as soon as the Kinect thing was revealed, before and after the other problems.

For what it's worth, I grabbed the Wii U on launch and the 3DS within the Ambassador window.

---

I'm fairly young so I couldn't really afford to rush out and grab any other console before now. The PS2 probably would have been one I would have waited outside for. Super Nintendo is one that I would have grabbed on day one as well. If I was born in the 70's and heard about the Nintendo coming to the US, I would have definitely wanted one on day one or rather, as soon as I knew I could buy one.

Honestly, the Xbox One.

Call me an optimist. I think the games are going to be sweet. And many of the issues that have people so up in arms don't really apply to me.

I'm really looking forward to see what "historic" Rare Franchise is going to be in the lineup. Crossing my fingers its Killer Instinct! Oh, and I'm a Forza nut, so Win for me.
Rare's deal with the devil (in this instance I'm not referring to its contract with Microsoft but rather the supposed contract that gave them the devious insight to absolutely OWN game development between Donkey Kong Country and Banjo Tooie) ran out years ago.

did I love Killer Instinct? yes.

Would i play a new Killer Instinct if it were put in front of me? yes.

Do I expect Rare to somehow turn it into a game about trains because who wants awesome fighting games anymore right? yes.

The DS. I thought that the touch screen would be amazing, and the idea of 3D games on a handheld blew my mind.

I was really excited for the wii too, but mostly because it was a Super Smash Bros Brawl box. (Years later, little has changed...)
