A lot of people definitely do hate him and think he is crazy. Like NeoGAF, for instance. Admit it, you're all secret gaffers.

No, but you're probably not. So I'm curious as to your opinions of the guy.

A lot of his predictions and claims seem extremely wild. And it can get a little irritating. Especially how he throws his credentials around to make wild claims. Its almost as if is business sensibilities mis-educate him about the actual game industry. As if he thinks his time in the business industry is a replacement for understanding of the actual gaming culture.

The way he goes on about phones and the like. It seems that he just doesn't quite get the diversity of gaming culture and how people who play different types of games are very different. And I think that his opinions are extremely miss rather than hit.

And he just generally comes off as a generic businessman attempting to speak about video games rather than a gamer. As if he has this amazing insight that he doesn't.

So, what do you think about the guy, Michael Patcher? And how accurate do you think his predictions and views are?

Sometimes his ideas are sort of interesting, but mostly I find them hogwash. While I do think he's a blowhard, I don't hate him. At most, he's a minor annoyance to me.

Also, it's Michael Pachter, not Patcher.

Haha, typo very fixed.

Pachter seems to think that, by the way, Nintendo should but won't go third party.

I wonder about this claim. Nintendo has a certain culture and energy is brings by being in the hardware business. I feel like Nintendo would have a hard time living in someone else's house so to speak. I don't think that going third party went well for SEGA, so I doubt it would go well for Nintendo, either.

He's a self-proclaimed "expert" whose approach seems to be "Throw enough shit at the wall and something is bound to stick". For every thing he guessed correctly there are tons of predictions that never came true or were so vague it's impossible to tell if they did. I do find him amusing, though, kinda like getting my palm read by a gypsy woman at the carnival...

I think he's sometimes amusing but overall he's a hack that people keep listening to for some reason.

I really think that the gaming media needs to stop making articles every time he says anything. His predictions are either so obvious that anyone who pays attention to gaming (which is everybody that is browsing gaming media sites) should be able to make that prediction, or is so off the wall that there's very little chance of it happening. Basically, we really need to stop treating his predictions as actual news.

I view his predictions to be more "Cave Johnson" style, ie 'throwing science/predictions at the wall and seeing what sticks.'

To be fair half of the drivel he spouts turns out correct, but in general I just ignore him and would wish the gaming industry would do so as well.

He is just a business analyst, a person that knows enough about the media and the business side of things to make informed enough decisions to investors. People seems to forget that and confuse him with a journalist, or expect him to be an inside man, able to get secret gossips about the commercial side of things that are hidden to mere mortals. He is not a journalist, he is a investment consultant. He is just an opinionated man with enough contacts and insight to support some of his opinions.

I don't hate him. I don't think every single thing he says is news worthy, but I don't think that is his fault.

While I know he is an analyst, personally I think the guy is a textbook example of the dipshits who currently hold the reins in game development, and pretty much any other, entertainment studios. People who have puffed up their egos to gargantuan proportions by blowing smoke up their own arseholes for so long they feel their mere, often misguided, opinions have become concrete, irrefutable facts.
