So what setting should a Far Cry 6 tackle next?

Just to quickly cover the franchise, each game took place in these settings:

Far Cry 1: Sci Fi story with Experimental Mutant army on a Pacific Tropical Island.

Far Cry 2: A Wartorn African country where you are sent to assassinate a Weapons Dealer.

Far Cry 3: Pacific Tropical Island again, this time with Drugs and Pirates and PMCs.

Blood Dragon: Cheesy 1980s Duke Nukem-esque insanity.

Far Cry 4: Asian Himalayas about a Revolutionary War.

Primal: Literally 10,000 BCE Caveman Far Cry (My favorite of the franchise so far)

Far Cry 5: The American Frontier countryside fighting against Religious (and possibly White supremacists) Nutjobs.

And the FarCry 5 DLCs have a Vietnam war setting, a Mars setting fighting monster space aliens, and a Zombie Apocalypse setting.

So what can the next Far Cry possibly tackle after all this? If I had to choose I want another Africa setting with the gameplay of Far Cry 3 to 5.

But if I want something new and original, I think Far Cry 6 should be a Post-Nuclear Apocalypse setting like Fallout, RAGE, STALKER, Metro, and Wasteland. With Irradiated Mutants and Bandits and all that shit. But how would a Post Nuclear Apocalypse Far Cry would handle and differentiate itself from those other games is the key question.

I say make it as hyper realisitc and plausible as possible. Nothing too science fiction like in Fallout and nothing too fantastical like the Poltergeists and Dark Ones in Stalker/Metro. And don't have the Mutants be too crazy looking like the Deathclaw.

I would like a post-apoc Far Cry that is done in the style of Far Cry 2's style, malaria and buddies that will die on you no matter what you do to help and you have to watch the life fade from their eyes as you overdose them on morphine to ease their passing

TBH, I think if it's not set in a tropical jungle, don't make it a main Far Cry game, make it like Far Cry: Subtitle or something else entirely. It was always renowned for the jungle (obligatory jungle is massive) setting and the lush, well rendered environments. On that basis, the amazon could be fun, or maybe some Incan/Mayan thing. Maybe somewhere in the middle east in a half desert, half oasis place. Not exactly tropical but the aussie outback could have some interesting stories to tell, or maybe one of the little japanese islands like Okinawa. Alaska could be interesting too, or maybe some african equatorial places like the Congo.

Spiderman = Manhattan. Fallout = Post-apocalypse. Far Cry = Jungle (is massive).

But in honesty, my opinion shouldn't count for anything here as I'm no longer the target audience. I won't buy The Ubisoft Game(TM), especially not since they started to make them grindy and add MTXs to them. Unless they bring Michael Ironside back as Sam Fisher, release BG&E2 or a new PoP game, I'm checked out of their franchises.

Far cry series is getting stale. same formula used in different skin no matter what setting they choose. if they cant make a decent game. waste of time.

by having post apocalyptic setting. it will become poor mans STALKER/Metro Exodus especially after Metro exodus releasing in few month.

Even with all the MTX and grind I still prefer "The Ubisoft game" over "The EA Game" or "The Activision Game" (Discounting Blizzard)

Because I truly think that Ubisoft is the only AAA publisher and developer that actually has games of interest.

They have the Tom Clancy Games, Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Beyond Good and Evil, Rayman, etc.

All EA has RIGHT NOW are Battlefields and Sports games. (And sadly an entire backlog of franchises that they will never make or if they do, it will be shit, the best you can hope is they re-sell their classics on GOG.com which they do)

'Post-Nuclear Apocalypse setting like Fallout, RAGE, STALKER, Metro, and Wasteland'
'original'

Okay fair's fair, I can't think of a tropical jungle setting that would allow much new in the way of gameplay either now that we can tame, befriend and ride animals. Perhaps the Mayan or Aztec empires, recapturing what was good about Primal but with more advanced tools and actual systems of government (to oppose).

They did have some very interesting Gods to interact with using hallucinogens like in FC4. Or maybe set it in the empire during the brutal Spanish conquest of it. Of course unless the player was a conquistador you'd be in for a depressing ending.

I never claimed it to be original, just to see how Far Cry would tackle.

It's not much a defence to say there are other worse publishers. I have no intention of buying any EA or Activision crap either. But "AAA" games with lootcrates, MTXs, grind and filler content like The Ubi Game, Inquisition/Andromeda and the like are crap. Any game with a 1 year development cycle is not even on my radar.

I prefer Ubisoft to EA, but that's like saying I prefer being hit by one baseball bat instead of two. Far Cry 3 was very good, Primal had some moments too. But they're creatively bankrupt, churning out the same stuff year on year, spreading 10 hours of "content" over 50 hours of "gameplay". I won't buy a full priced game with MTXs or lootcrates, I refuse to encourage it and there are plenty of games that don't have such evil, insidious and greedy mechanics.

I'd like to see it set in Siberia somewhere. Large, snowy mountains. Either that or the Old West. Unfortunately, I think that Ubisoft is too chickenshit to do a western Far Cry because the weapon selection would have to be poor. They're not very bright.

Before Far Cry 3 was announced- a rumour was going around that the next Far Cry would be in Antarctica. Personally I thought this was a fantastic idea given that Far Cry was the poster child for unusual settings (until they fucked that up with FC5). It wouldn't be hard to do either- given that the continent is split up like a pie into national territories (some overlapping others!), and it could be just one mining discovery away from some resource everyone decides to abandon the no-weapon restriction and go to war over.

Then again, despite the cookie cutter tropical island setting FC3 used, it still ended up as a stellar game.

I don't really care where it is as long as

a) It's not in the United States
b) It's not in a facsimile of Iraq or Afghanistan
c) It's not just another tropical Pacific island.
d) It has Hang-Gliders. Seriously that used to be Far Cry's trademark until Primal fucked that up.

I'd kind of prefer they didn't do a 'me-too' post apocalyptic game like everyone else. Though I'd probably still prefer a post apocalyptic Far Cry over Metro or Stalker.

As far as Ubisoft sandbox go I'm actually more interested in where they take Assasins Creed next. If they stick with antiquity like with Greece and Egypt we might FINALLY have a AAA game set in ancient Rome.

I wouldn't mind one in like the Amazon or something. Have me take on a drug cartel or human traffickers. Give me a legit jungle though. Far Cry 3 had some decent jungles going on, but nothing full on jungle.

I know they had that survey go out a few years back about what people wanted as a setting. Vampires and Dinosaurs were on those lists. I'd like to see those.

The Spanish Civil War 1936 -1939.

Loads of international mercenaries and political partisans on both sides, skirmishes involving everything from bi plane bombers to cavalry. All manner of stories can be told with atrocities a plenty painting the countryside red.

I'd play the hell out of that- though I'd rather it be a Mercenaries game than a Far Cry game, unless they gave you full access to all the planes, tanks and vehicles and a (gasp) 3rd person camera, at least for vehicles.

We've already had Rome in AC:B. Sure, it wasn't ancient Rome of the Roman Kingdom/Republic days, but a surprising amount of the area's geography didn't change... like, at all. Hell, all the districts in AC:B are just Romance updates of their Latin equivalents so it would be treading rather worn ground. Sure, architecture would be different along with the different density of buildings, but it would be shockingly familiar.

EDIT - Uhm... not sure if you'd count these, but Shadow of Rome and Ryse: Son of Rome?(!) -_- (And I'm guessing you mean action adventure game, rather than any genre, otherwise R:TW and TW:R2 + expansions (as well as EU:R and all the Caesar games) would like many words!) ;p

Eh, not to be pedantic, but I'm guessing he meant 'ancient Rome' as in 'late-Republican/early-Imperial Italy'. (EDIT - shit, I need a history lesson... 'full setting', we'll try again...)

In this vein, I've long pondered an AC game set during the Second Punic War where, on the flipside to Origins, the PC is a Roman, and the assassin equivalent is a lictor (hence the chance to rub shoulders with the rich and powerful), but most of the action is based in Spain, bumping off Iberian/Celtiberian princes/nobles and Carthaginian commanders. The main game would conclude with the death of Mago in Massilia. Story can (operative word) be continued with the rise of the Sons of Cornelia and the PC going 'well, shit... looks like things ain't so rosy no more' etc., with side orders of seeing Hannibal die, the conquest of Macedonia/Asia Minor, Cato being a dick etc., even if I feel that this is a bit insubstantial to be able to have a proper game out of it. Better off fast-forwarding to just about the Catiline Conspiracies and leading into the First Triumvirate and subsequent civil war with a defection mid-game once the broken-ness of the Roman Republican system dawns on the PC (as if it wasn't clear already, but w/e). Lots of names to kill, lots of names to take quests from...

The Dystopian dictatorship version of England that's popular in fiction, like 1984, We Happy Few, Brave New World ETC.

I have...philosophical issues with that event. Perfectly fine to make Caesar a villain and and assassination target but making the greatest man of western civilization into a clueless puppet is such a strange move it pulls me straight out of the narrative.

I would like to see a Brazil or some other South American setting, but ensure it's an urban environment this time.

Perhaps South Africa and working as a park ranger hunting poachers.

What does the story unfold into? Damnit man you asked for setting, not plot.

Essentially I'd prefer the next game to be urban because they've done rural to death now.

Antarctica sounds interesting but... it doesn't exactly have many predators, valuable natural resources or anything worth the cost of exploitation. Unless it DOES and the big bad is all about using global warming to be the first in to exploit it.

I'll go with amazon too, would be cool to also have a lot of cave exploration and stuff. I'd like if the wilderness was also super dangerous, going down to ground level would be something you'd avoid dong so most of the game would jumping from tree to tree in the canopy. With brazil now under a self proclaim autocrat they wouldn't have to look very far for interesting setting too XD
