So what setting should a Far Cry 6 tackle next?

Not necessarily. This is Far Cry: New Dawn, not Far Cry 6. The previous non-numbered games (Primal and Blood Dragon) do not share continuity with the numbered games.
Um, source?

Blood Dragon, sure. But Primal's so far removed from the other games, there's nothing to stop it sharing continuity with them as far as I'm aware.

Granted, this is all from second-hand sources as I've never actually played Far Cry so...
It's called the first direct standalone sequel. [https://www.vg247.com/2018/12/07/far-cry-new-dawn-release-date/]

This seems more like Final Fantasy X-2 than anything else.

I love how inescapable it is that the premise of this new far cry spoils the ending of the 5th one for anybody who even glances at the cover art, let alone the full trailer. Already was aware of the ending myself, but there are still outlets giving spoiler warnings within the articles promoting this one as if it makes any bloody difference now, hah! It's interesting how naturally it commits to the established narrative into something completely new, while perhaps accidentally trampling all over Fallout 76's shoddy excuse of a game at the same time. Always appreciate a bit of colourful wilderness for aimless post-apocalyptic meandering too. Am but a simple creature distracted by bright flowers and shiny blood puddles.

New far cry game new dawn looks terrible. instead of announcing splinter cell. they just keep rehashing assassins creed and far cry over and over again.
I wouldn't mind more Far Cry so long as the setting looks good.

I am still waiting for another Africa setting Far Cry game.

As for Splinter Cell I think you should be more concerned as to whether it doesn't look like ass more so then if it exists at all.

It will be a miracle if it looks and plays anything like the first 4 games.

Side Note: You haven't said anything in my Black Mesa and Metroid Prime 4/Doom thread B-Cell :(

Wish granted! Like all wishes, it's actually a curse.

I'm kinda bummed, only for the fact I was sure that the Nuclear ending of FC5 was a Bliss Hallucination the PC was having(considering two huge drums of the stuff end up spilling all over the place just before the nukes go off). Granted if FC6 ends up contradicting "New Dawn" then it might still be true.

Great. They finally make a true sequel Far Cry, and they choose to do it with by far the least interesting setting Far Cry has ever had. Why not a sequel to 2? or Blood Dragon? When I saw all the apocalyptic car combat I sighed and thought 'can't you let Australia have just that one thing?'

But then I saw the rest of the trailer. On second thoughts, Hope County's welcome to it. Take all of that crap and just go, already.

You may have predicted the copout twist ending already.

Wait, why should post-apocalyptic vehicle based fiction be confined solely to Australia exactly? That's needlessly restrictive and aesthetically bland.

Australia would make a great Far Cry setting.

Everything in the country already wants to kill you for starters. :p

But yeah, there's no reason it can't diversify. I just think apocalypse+cars always works better if it's in Australia because it's so synonymous with the Australian landscape and character. It's the same reason I find it weird whenever the Driver series, which is all about the Hollywood car chase, is set anywhere outside the United States (like in Driv3r. It was weird, man).

Maybe a desert setting, just to do something new. Perhaps some place like Mexico, the Sahara, or the Outback.

Ubisoft, stop, just fucking stop already

Well, it was more like "Oh my god, how can you take the exact OPPOSITE idea from the reception to the game's toothless, 'both sides, amirite!?' bullshit and stampede towards it?" Ubisoft needs to just stop trying to be topical if it's not gonna go full Wolfenstein II.

I'll give Ubisoft some credit. They occasionally put out a rather interesting and creative "Indie" game amidst their mega-franchises(Valiant Hearts, Child of Light).

But most of their reliance is on their big mega-franchises that they've more or less refined down to a tight formula for each and constantly make them a ton of cash. Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs, Far Cry, Tom Clancy's Whatever(Ghost Recon, the Division, etc).

Prince of Persia was swallowed by Assassins Creed a long time ago(Ironic since AC more or less started as a PoP spin off) and apparently Splinter Cell just didn't make enough money to continue(Apparently it was meant to sell 5 million and only sold 2 million).

And they'll keep making the games as long as they make enough money.

Except Valiant Hearts, which fortunately cannot and should not be a franchise.

I didn't play FC5(I already have a faffing about ubisoft series I enjoy way more then I should) but I did watch the opening and ending cutscenes on youtube, along with enough to get a decent idea of the story in the middle(which is probably enough). The first thing I thought with the "Good" ending was how convenient it was that he just happens to dump over some huge ass barrels of hallucinogenic drugs just before a bunch of nukes go off in the middle of nowhere Montana, right in the middle of his little dramatic speech. Almost as if two were related somehow....in a game and series that really likes doing weird-ass acid trip sequences.

This is me nitpicking, but I don't think Watch Dogs counts as a "mega franchise" yet.

I was reaching a bit there, trying to think of something other then FC,AC and Tom Clancy. I know there's two of them now. I'm sure there will be more.

Does this mean I am not the only person who thought the Mad Max game was alright? :O Ok, too hopeful, yes. That shall not be denied.

Should have specified I was alluding to the ending of New Dawn potentially turning out to explain everything you just played through to be nothing more than an elaborate trip that started from the ending of 5. The biggest of copouts. It's a more impressive bit of guesswork if it turns out to be the case! ;)
