So what should we do with the Mass Effect universe after Mass Effect 3?

I'm not really concerned. I think it will be better to indulge in supposition when we get details of more ME media outside of the Shepard story arc. I only care that Bioware wrap up the trilogy appropriately. I want them to focus on doing justice to the final episode of Shepard's epic journey.

Forget about it forever.
Forget about a space opera that's been around for the past 5-6 years thats been both a cornerstone and milestone in both player to NPC narrative, exploration, romance, and depth? Really?
Really cornerstone of romance, exploration and depth? Fair enough for NPC interaction that is genuinely good but there are other games that do much better and things done before in those categories. I really can't see what is so revolutionary about the romance system or the exploration. I am not saying there isn't depth though but it is a shining beacon of depth in the RPG market.

OT: I want to see it never touched again and left in its glory like so many other games should have been. If they must then a Civ style RTS game or a RTS game.

It's a large and detailed universe, and the number of stories which could be set in it is effectively infinite. I've been sort of hankering for something more open-ended set there which would let you explore it in more depth.

Playing a less, uh, controversial specter career would sure be nice, but you don't always need to be saving the galaxy either. Could be anything from a merc to a business type, or both. Or any number of different things.

Why not just make a new cast of characters, more depth, do it in the future of the Mass Effect Universe The aftermath of what happens in 3

Show how Shepard and the crew has affected the entire universe a thousand years in the future or even further, it'd be really interesting if they allowed save transfers for Mass Effect 4 even if it is 1000 years in the future with a new story and new characters, Mass Effect is such a big universe it could go into anything, why not even seperate yourself from the military?

C-Sec officer?
Mercenary?
Cerberus Exec?
Political bodyguard?
Or just give us another Spectre?

There are literally endless possiblities

They already said that the end of Sheps tale isn't the end of ME. Why should it be it's a pretty nice established universe. My only concern is that theyv'e kind of 'flipped the mako' ;) with the reapers. Not sure you can get a worse enemy than that :<.
Well, this isn't Digimon or anything like that. They don't need to invent a new unbeatable all-powerful enemy who is even stronger than the last unbeatable all-powerful enemy.
Lol! But once the reapers are beaten surely everything else is going to pale in comparison. I found the origins idea nice. A personal version of your own spectre could be pretty cool. I'd probably still play a human though. lol.

"We" aren't gonna do a damn thing...cuz we aren't the rightholders. Bioware Corp. on the other hand will probably milk it for all its worth.

What I hope they will do: move on to make new sci-fi games...with better stories.

Playing a C-Sec Cop doing the attack on the Citadel. . . IT WILL BE AWESOME! I mean, you have to like. Get people to safety, and deal with the crime that suddenly started because criminals are idiots and taking advantage of the situation. And everyone panicking.

They will probably eventually make a Mass Effect MMO, but I doubt it'll be for a good long while as they won't want to compete with The Old Republic.

I hope they make a old-school party RPG, but that probably won't happen. Maybe an adventure game set on the Citadel?

In fact, I hope they go a different direction and make a space trading/combat sandbox game, like Elite, Escape Velocity, X3, Freelancer, etc.

An f-zero x/ need for speed underground racing style game set in the Mass Effect Universe. Imagine racing a custom built flying car through the wards or the spires of Illium. That would be awesome.

Ain't it obvious? RTS. The universe would work brilliantly with it.

Also, make a TV series based on this [http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5775707/1/Mass_Effect_Interregnum]. Yes, I know it's fanfiction. Read it before you mock.

I've said it before, so I'll say it again.

Mass Effect: Origins

Where you play a newly recruited Spectre.
You can choose between human, Asari, Turian, Salarian, and Quarian for your race. If you are human, Turian, or Quarian you can choose your gender (since Salarian females never leave their world, and Asari only have a single female-like gender).

And you get sent off on some sort of Spectre mission that is more than it first appears. You probably spend some time recruiting help in the form of a new batch of party members, ones whose loyalty you must manage in some fashion or other.
Yes. This one speaks sense.

OT: Either what Bara said, or a game during the First Contact War. Presumably some more books.

I assume that after the third game, they're gonna release a game that happens kind of alongside the 3rd game but from the perspective of a completely different group of characters. But of course they'll release a RTS before that. Then we'll get a really awesome game that takes place some time before the first game, which also follows a completely different group of characters.
And...
Wait, doesn't this sound a bit like that other series about space stuff? Nahh...

Prequels. They'll go back to the First Contact War, the Rachni Wars, the Krogan Rebellions or humanity's arrival on the Citadel. Or maybe Bioware will go back to Shepard's pre-ME career. I know they said they're done with the character after ME3, but they'll find a way to include him/her in whatever they do next in the ME universe.

I'm sure I heard somewere they were considering doing a prequel, dunno how it would work (presumably some rise of Shepard before the first one.)

This is the path I hope they take. Can't say I have been terribly enthralled by any of Bioware's more recent offerings. Might be time to take a step back and work on a new setting, or perhaps do a Jade Empire sequel.

Mass effect RTS would work amazingly. Think about it. (Wishwork activated)
Set 50 years after ME3, the galaxy is erupting in civil war after the state of galaxy was shattered by the reapers. All of the major groups have given their all to become the dominant force of the Galaxy. You got at least 4 viable races.

Citadel Forces- With Asari, Human, Salarian, Krogan, and Turian fighters. and all round team

Veil forces- The Geth and the Quarians. Best tech, slow startup but becomes deadly endgame.

Terminus systems- Lead by Aria, You have the 3 main crime gangs+Batarians. Deadly at the beginning, but doesn't advance much

Reapers- Use different types of Husks, Scions and collectors to fight. Gets massive super units and mobile bases+Converting dead enemies, but slow and fragile units.

Zealots- Hanar and Drell who want to convert the entire galaxy, after seeing the reapers arrival as part of some divine prophecy. Fast and most units can stealth.

Humans- Cerberus + Human rebels. Got strong Reaper tech. Weak units, but MANY different Commandos/Hero units.

Gahns- New race that discovered Mass Effect fields after repelling the reaper invasion. Each one is 12 feet tall and could match a Krogan. Believes Citadel responsible for their home-worlds attack

Element Zero for Hero units/upgrades.
Metals for normal units
Money from defeating creeps
Volus Shopkeepers, that sell upgrades to bases (i.e short term shields, hero items)
Unique commanders for each race with unique benefits (I.e The Veil could get Tali and Legion, while the Citadel could get the Turian councilor, who can destroy armies every so often by refusing they exist.
Mercenaries for hire, cost a lot but stronger than most Hero units. Includes the child of Kasumi, Biotic Commando Liara and more.
