Worst night for me would be when I was about 13, I hallucinated that I was stuck inbetween a newtons cradle, so every time I closed my eyes I imagined I was being crushed by a great big steel ball. I also slept-walked that night, and that really freaks me out.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I was on holiday with my best friends (of the time) after we finished school, and the sky on the second night was perfectly clear. There was millions of stars and awesome colors, and we counted something like 25+ shooting stars. We just laid down outside our tent for the whole night.

Well, once when I was 5 or 6, I slept in the top bunk and my brother slept in the bottom. I had had many nightmares and such, much of which included falling to my death. One time, I woke up just before I hit the ground in my dream, only to find that weightless sensation was actually quite real, as I was falling off the side of my bed, 6 feet straight down head first. I crashed into my bed railing that had come off at some point in the night. Instead of crying or going back up into my bed,I slept on my gaming beanie chair I had just got at the time. sooooo comfy. Luckily i didn't have a concussion or anything serious.

I'm a chef and I used to work for a well known Italian restaurant! I once worked an 10hour shift, came home and went to sleep and kept dreaming I was at work and that I'd forgotten to put things in the oven and I could hear the sound of the ticket machine going off so I kept waking up like o_O and then when I actually got up I had to go do another 10 hour shift!

I take a lot of (prescribed) medication. One of them, called Seroquel (chemical name, quetiapine) really does not react well with alcohol. This Christmas one of my housemates bought me a bottle of pre-made Mojito because I had expressed an interest in trying it because it sounded really good. Although I knew I shouldn't drink I guessed that one wouldn't hurt.

I was very very wrong indeed.

I didn't sleep for three nights and seemed permanently stuck in a sort of O.O expression. By the third night I was feeling pretty unwell and lying in bed not able to believe that I STILL wasn't going to sleep was about as wretched as I have ever felt.

Mine is absolutely nothing compared to yours, OP. I mean... damn, I feel bad for you.
Ha, there is no need to rank anything. Thanks though I guess? But everyone who has had a bad night's sleep is on equal terms. It sucks just as much no matter how bad the circumstances are. Honestly I'm glad I'm awake...It gives me time to think so I don't do something rash that would mess up that friendship I mentioned haha.

A couple of years back, when I was still competing in judo I fell awkwardly on my shoulder which fucked up one of my joints if I remember correctly.

Anyway, that night must have been the worst one I'd had. I was in constant pain lying down, getting up was a ***** as well, so I ended up sitting by the kitchen table, my head on the table and my arm just dangling down by the side of the table. It was the only position I could find that did not hurt, I could fall asleep though, so I spent my night there, staring out the window. Luckily I had my Mp3 for some distraction at least.

One day I spent over 12 hours playing Star Wars: Republic Commando. I couldn't sleep because when ever I closed my eyes I had Commandos and Trandoshan mercenaries taking cover and returning fire in a series of corridors inside my head.

I get a few of them, but it's generally when my partner and I fight before bed. He's sleeping soundly and I'm awake, tired but unable to sleep because for one I am wound up and two because I can't stop thinking about how pissed off I am with him. Before that it use to be a case of Insomnia due to working late nights followed by early mornings and long hours. I had sleeping tablets for that though.

O, Republic Commando is an excellent game haha.
Anyways, I have been there. The day I got Napoleon: Total War I played it for hours and I didn't get very much sleep because this stupid in-game adviser was stuck in my head yelling things like "Your general is under attack!" and such XD.

I remember, I think a year ago, my Tourrettes Syndrome was really acting up, and I actually kept myself up with my grunts for about 5 hours. It was unbearable.

Had school the next day, too.

Once when I was ill I didn't sleep at all. I had some kind of flu or something so I had to get up and barf every half hour. And it was summer too; extremely hot (especially with a fever) and very bright. (I need darkness to sleep)

Another bad-sleepy-time was when I had seen the first SAW movie... we were replacing the wallpaper in my room, so it kind of looked like one of the "test chambers" from that movie. slept maybe one hour that night. And I got up at 5am and watched TV... I had nothing better to do.

I just remembered I had another one! (I never sleep that well...) I was in my summer house in the summer (duh) and mosquitos kept flying in through the ventilation. And it was really hot so I didn't want to close it. Damn mosquitos kept waking me up, so eventually I got a fly swatter and sat guard the entire night. (I accidentally smacked my brother in his face with the fly swatter when he woke me :p)

Getting a headache so bad that you start hallucinating soccer tactics and imagining you're writing them on a black board even though you telling your brain to shut up?
OH WAIT even better another bad headache I woke up in the middle of the night and thought that things were flying at me and trying to kill me.
Thankfully I was too exhausted to get out of the bed... may have done some damage...
THANK GOD I have never had such bad headaches like that in recent years..

Also I once stayed the night at a friend's house, he snored like a rhinocerous and he never stopped and it was so loud that it disrupted my dreams, so my dream in which I was working in an office right out of a sitcom was interupted by a strange creature with a large trunk going:
"KNAAAARHGHRHGHGJGHH!"
I'm sorry, but I found that absolutely hilarious.

OT: I had serious trouble sleeping last week, probably due to the fact that I had turned my days upside down the week prior to that, went to bed around 22:00, didn't fall asleep untill about 03:00.

well that i can remember was a couple of nights ago i couldnt get to sleep and when i did finally get to sleep i kept having this weird, really vivid, nightmare

it was about a space ship infested with zombies and zombie rats and weird tentacle things that grabbed people from out of the floor caused by some blob like aliens infected with some disease and you know how it goes, and when the protagonist which was me but a skinny blond guy finally made it to the safeplace with the other survivors he grabbed a zombie rat and set it loose and it finallytook someone with "developers fingers" to catch it and get rid of it and so on and so fourth it ended with the skinny blond guy hiding in a toilet with zombies smashing down the door and then i had to wake up and get ready for work after only 1 or 2 hours fitful sleep

and i have no idea what brought it on

It was a few months ago, my stomach was hurting, probably something I ate. Anyway, I had trouble getting to sleep because of it, but when I did I had a pretty bad dream. Like being arrested for child pornography bad. I had a dream where the police stormed my place and I was arrested for child porn, I remember sitting in the interogation room while they yelled at me and all I could think was "holy shit I ruined my life, I ruined my life, I ruined my life." I then sat straight up in a cold sweat with that terrifying feeling still strong and for the rest of the night I sat there with my eyes open remembering what it must be like for someone to realise they ruined their life.

As a side-note, no I am not interested in child porn. But for some reason my mind decided to show me what would happen if I ever was. Let's just say I was scared out of my skin. Deffinately the worst night of sleep in my life.

My bedroom window is about two metres away from the septic tank outside. I outright refuse to open my window unless something to cover up the smell (such as lime) has been poured over the concrete covering recently. >_<;

That added to the mosquitoes and thrips that love to buzz in every night, even when all of my windows and doors are closed, it's a pain to try and get to sleep at all on most days.

About a week ago the temperature was in the 80s (farenheit), and I felt like shit the whole night, and woke up covered in dried sweat.

And it's not even summer yet.

I think I need to move to Scotland...
