So what was wrong with the old Dante?

Well to be fair, Dante was always a complete fucking douchebag. Well, more along the lines of a **** which technically speaking isn't very far off.

As for the new look... eh I don't like it either. But considering they're taking him backwards to when he was still young, it's hard to imagine how they can make a character who is by all means a loudmouthed almost entirely unlikeable douchebag into a dignified teenager. And yes I love the DMC series.

I really don't know how. I mean, how would you make him look if the series had no where else to go besides to Dante's teen years?

Wow... you're right, he DOES look like an emo king super douche of the universe.
Maybe they just wanted to "expand their fanbase" and said "Hey! Yknow what's popular? That book/movie series about gay vampires seducing girls! Let's make him look like the douche from that movie!"

I loved old Dante. DM3 is one of my top 5 favorite games. As for this, all I have to say is that I don't know why they did it, but it's a shame.

I think you missed the part where Capcom said that the new DmC isn't a reboot. It's a prequel to DMC3...so a prequel of a prequel...

I'm still waiting to see how this turns out, but ya, the character design is still kind of stupid

I don't see what the big problem with giving DMC3 Dante more pixels would be. It would woo the wovewy ladies (and, frankly, a fair number of not gay men as well) just fine, and his cuntheaded personality could stay intact.
Well he was quite babyfaced in DMC3. Now that you mention it, the leap in Dante's appearance between DMC3 and this... What the fuck happened? It looks like a reverse addiction to shitty music and methamphetamine.

So long, lovable campy J-rockstar! Hello, Hillary Swank!

However, I'd be more worried about the fact that Ninja Theory couldn't create decent fighting mechanics to save their lives.

To be honest, this new look is kinda what I envisioned when I first heard of Devil May Cry.

I can see why fans are upset, but isn't that picture many months old, and didn't they already say due to the feedback that that wasn't going to be his look?

Either way, make the game more like Bayonetta please.
I heard that they knew that it would piss off most fans but when we all said how much we hated it they turned round, gave us the middle finger, told us to go fuck are selves and that they were going to go a head with it anyway.

Relax, it's a picture. As long as he still the smug super badass that he is in the other games, does it really matter what color his hair is? Just wait and see, don't hate on the game already just because a small change.

nothing wrong with the old dante
he's always been a loveable asshole

as for the new look
its probably just to mix up the narrative a bit
looking at cutscenes from the trailer it does appear to grow longer and whiter

and besides
it makes sense from a character development point of view

in dmc 3 he was early 20s late teens
and being a cocky, arrogant douche
which was fun

in the original dmc he was late 20s early 30s
he was cocky and arrogant
but not as much of a douche as he would be in dmc 3

in dmc 4 he is in his 40s
and is there for getting kinda old
he is alot more serious but still kinda cocky and fun loving
hense the appearance of nero

dmc 2 has no slot in terms of character growth but would probably be after 4 if you look at his behaviour shiting to serious from sparky and cocky

so the only logical position is an origin story where he is young and angsty
but also completly arrogant
otherwise you'de have to explain away the sudden character shift

long story shot
not that big a deal
needs to slot in with his character development
stop complaining

I think it'd work really well if the game ends with him being classic Dante.

Also, can Dante even have teen years? When was he born again?

Dante was always a super douche... and since we haven't even listened the new one talk, I don't know why people assume he has turned into another kind of douche all of a sudden.

I don't mind the redesign and subscribe to Yatzhee's opinion: The people that made the first 4 DMC games were either so afraid of the fans, or so incapable of making a new protagonist that they make a "new" character that looks exactly like the old one... I, for one, welcome the redesign since the "new" Dante is hardly going to be a bigger dick than the classic one.

If anything, people should be more worried about the gameplay than about the new haircut... After all, that series was NEVER about its story and all about its mechanics, and Ninja Theory already proven that they make poor copies of established games (see Heavenly Sword and God of War)

I know this has been out for a while but for the few who do not know Dante from Devil may cry has been re designed for the reboot and he looks like the ultimate emo King super douche of the universe. Now I love the old Dante or as I like to say Real Dante and so do a lot if not most DMC fans so why change him. So I was wondering if anyone had a good awnser as to why they changed him but feel free to use this just to ***** about the new guy and take the piss.

I do not know how to show images in these thinks so here is a link to a picture of emo king super douche of the universe.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/82/DMCNewDante.jpg

Also anyone who says Nero or his royal highness emo king super douche 1st is cooler than Dante will be hunted down and killed for the good of the human race.
I am going to blow your argument out of the water with this one post. This is young Dante not "new" Dante. You think Dante always had white hair, tall, and built pretty damn well? No, he was a baby, a kid, a TEEN(Dante, new Dante), and young adult(DMC1). Kratos was never musclebound as a kid, Wolverine never had the sideburns and smoked as a kid, the director of SHIELD, Major Nick Fury, had an eye at some point but lost it in a mission, and the Hulk was human. This is pre Dante, YOUNG Dante not old Dante. "New" Dante, or just to piss you off Real Dante, will grow up into the white haired Dante of the future he's just young in DmC. This has been done before, I'm pretty sure DMC 2 was where Dante was like two years younger than he was in DMC 1.

OH MY GOD! SHUT THE F$#% UP!!! I am so sick of hearing everyone bitching about "new" Dante! "Oh his hair is black""He smokes""He's an emo!" SHUT UP! Y'know WHY Dante has black hair? It's because he's not a full demon yet! He's a half demon so he's not gonna be born breathing fire and speaking in tongues. Men aren't born we go through puberty, half demons aren't born they fall into it! Dante has black hair because he is young, this is before he reaches full demonification with the white hair...

Sorry if I offended anyone I just needed to prove a point so feel free to prove my post wrong.
While I do agree this is not a big deal, I think your statements of fictional facts as if they were an absolute truth is kind of funny... As far as I know, half-demons can be born breathing fire, speaking in tongues and with a 6ft tail that fells off when they reach puberty... Because they DOESN'T exist.

I could live with Dante's redesign, some fan art makes him look really nice, its the super serious grimdark aesthetic of the game that bothers me. HS had its fair share of humor but Enslaved had a lot less, if they're thinking of making DMC an introspective drama they don't know DMC.

They should really fire the art director, the environments are fine, but as Nariko and Monkey show animesque features done in a realistic art style just don't look good.

As for gameplay I'm concerned too, NT aren't combat geniuses and UE3 definitely means 30fps.

At lot of people have pointed out that he looks mysteriously like his new ninja theory developer.

That my friends is the height of douchebaggery.

Vanity aside it would be nice to not have a protagonist who isn't a caucasian guy with short dark hair, we have lots and lots of those...

Excuse me, Tameem. Don't you have to be busy making Dante your self-insert *****? Seeing as how you're the director, and all?

Anyways, I wouldn't have bitched about it if it weren't for the fact that he made Dante a self-insert and that they can't design fun gameplay to save their lives.
EDIT: Wow, ninja'd by 3 hours right above me.
