So if Xbox One games need server verification, and the servers are taken offline, then what happens to your games?

I don't think we should hold out on backwards compatibility. After all, Microsoft said
If you're backwards compatible, you're really backwards

Microsoft isn't beyond taking down servers that games of a previous generation need in order to access all of their features, like when Microsoft took down the original Xbox's Xbox Live servers in 2010.

And what of the publisher that tie a game to a system post install? What happens then?

So what do you think will become of Xbox One games in a decade. Will Microsoft flip a magic switch that lets you play them without verification? If so, how can they justify not doing this at launch? What do you think?

I think that because they are requiring a daily check in for the system to operate, they are more likely to enable offline play if they were to switch off servers. With that being said, it is impossible to know.

And original xbox live is not required to play the games, just multiplayer. So the original xbox live point is moot.
