So what'd you think of Prometheus?

It filled the gap, not great, not terrible. The opening where they're exploring the planet I felt was rather awe inspiring, but on the other hand none of the characters with the exception of maybe David were compelling and I didn't really care about the motives of the Engineer Aliens all that much.

On the other hand though, all the massive plotholes didn't really diminish the experience, I probably would've liked it if the characters were interesting.

A bit late...or perhaps even early...for this topic, but oh well. I don't like to download movies because my paranoia has me convinced that any site claiming to let you download movies is likely just one gigantic virus. However, that didn't stop my brother from discovering the magic of torrents and likely infesting his laptop with malware.

ANYWAYS! Saw the movie over the weekend at my brother's house and I wanted to come on here and talk about it since I'm a pretty big Aliens fan and this was - as it was billed - a prequel to the movie Alien.

And overall, I thought they did a pretty good job with it. It explains who The Pilot race is/was and the origin of the Xenomorphs.

Alright, I was enjoying the build-up throughout the movie. The thing about it being a prequel to the Alien movies kinda meant that it would be an Alien movie but without Xenomorphs, and that's essentially what it was. So I watched in eager anticipation to see when and how all hell would break loose. And when it broke loose....yeah, that's pretty much the best term for how the movie went as well.

Now we all know the two guys left behind in the dome structure where the token sacrificial lambs. SOMEONE'S gotta be the first to die, and it's normally the people that get isolated. I really did enjoy their encounter with what I would consider to be a "primative" face hugger. When he goes to cut it of the guy's arm and it starts spraying acid blood all over the place I was like "Fuck yeah! Xeno blood!" Buuuuuut this is where things started to become jumbled and rushed for me.

It starts when Dr. Shaw's boyfriend gets poisoned by the android with the alien DNA. He goes on to bang his girlfriend and apparently impregnates her with an alien. Not knowing this, they all make another trip out to the Dome before the boyfriend starts getting violently ill and they have to return to the ship, where he has started to fully mutated and must be executed via flame-thrower. From there it's straight to the med bay for Dr. Shaw to see if she has caught Space Herpies from her boyfriend, and it's discovered that she's been impregnated. The creepy android lets on just how creepy he is before sedating her and leaving her there for the med-crew to come and put her into stasis. Annnnnd here's where things REALLY get messed up. She wakes up, knocks out the two medical officers, runs to the life-pod that has the auto-med-pod which we're told is specifically for Officer Vickers, a female, yet the pod is calibrated for males only. So she tells it she has a foreign body that needs removing and pulls out what eventually turns into a GIANT primative face hugger. Now, this would seem to be a VERY large "WTF?!" moment for EVERYONE on the ship...........but nothing is mentioned of it.

Dr. Shaw never mentions her suspicions that the android specificaly infected her boyfriend. Never mentions that she had to cut a fucking alien out of herself, that she had to fight off the medical staff in order to do so. Everyone just keeps on going on with the normal routine. Were it not for the final scene in the movie, you could forget the alien c-section even took place! It's like they got to that point in the movie, checked their watches, and said "Oh shit, we've gotta hurry up and get to the end."

Anyways, I still thought it was a decent little movie. Heard they're planning on making it into a trilogy because why the fuck not? Everything else is a damn trilogy these days. Just wanted to give my thoughts on the movie and see what everyone else thought of it. :p
I liked the film myself, it's one of those it is what it is films (if that makes sense)
Yeah the scientists were massively unprofessional but you could put that down to passion?
ultimately, the film was about asking questions and I think it did that very well.

Edit: for an opinion!!
People say its an aliens prequel, I'm pretty sure I saw Riddley Scott say it wasn't but the film is set in the alien universe and does have a brief appearance of the 'alien'.
I may be wrong but I don't see this as an alien prequel myself, the film is about asking where do we come from?
(in my opinion)

Under whelming.

It started of good. Had some nice atmosphere going on there, but the movie was wrapped up pretty bad. Too many questions, no answers. We have all seen the giant alien(dead) in the alien/s movies and I expected to learn more abut it. But no, just more questions. If there were a sequel right around the corner then that would not be that bad.

But so far it was a major disappointment. 6/10

It's like the Star Wars prequels except it ain't horrendous like they were (you can still like Prometheus even past visuals). They made up all that crazy shit, that really has nothing to do with the original, and somehow they forced it into place. I mean Alien was just about a space-faring party that pick up an alien life, and now it wants to kill them all. It's simplicity was gold. What is Prometheus about?

-ancient aliens
-created human life
-also created something to destroy us - why? Movie doesn't explain.
-group of scientist asking the eternal question "why are we here?"

I mean wtf?

How did we go from a space slasher to "why are we here?" From penis-head monsters from space, to giant muscular dudbros that are suppose to be Humanity Prime or something.

Even judging the movie by itself, it doesn't make much sense. A lot of stuff is pointless and thrown in there. Especially the tie ins with the evolutionary process of the Xenomorph from it being implanted into scientist chicks boyfriend, to her getting fucked and having the baby, than that cocoon baby fucking that Promethean and...get the fuck out of here! Half the movie we're watching that stupid tie in to the main franchise, when this movie really wants to be its own thing. And that's what it should have been!

-go to that planet
-wake up Promethean
-scientist ask eternal question "why are we here?"
-Promethean says "fuck you you were a mistake"
-conflict ensues
-one side wins
-the end

Now that would have been better. :p

Why did the engineer suddenly attack everyone, it didn't make any sense. Did I miss something?

It was good but not great. It started out great, but the moment they took their helmets off when they went into the cave bugged the hell out of me. Just sheer stupidity to do that when you're on an alien planet.

Semi-thread necro. Gets on my nerves, but at least the thread topic is a bit obscure and it hasn't been dead that long.

I didn't like it, as a standalone movie and compared to Alien or Aliens. I liked the android dude because the actor absolutely nailed the role, the hologram CGI was extremely pretty, the Space Jockeys were a perfect mix of humanoid while still being 'off', but that's all that was good.

As mentioned before in this thread, there was no reason why anybody had to do what they did, and the glaring plot devices just built on. All the characters I liked died or were pushed out of focus, the twist with the CEO was predictable, the twist that lead to the next was predictable (but that's okay, it is a prequel), characters were just dumb despite being these specially selected elites, but mostly I just hated the "Chariot of the Gods" drive, and that the main character was "only there because she still believed" or something like that.
