My avatar is none other than the magician names Gob.
I chose him because I find him to be the funniest character on one of the funniest shows (Arrested Development for those of you who don't know). This particular gif is taking place right after he was announced and came on stage. The Final Countdown is playing in the background. I think it embodies him pretty much perfectly. Hilariously overconfident while being completely oblivious to just how ridiculous he looks.
My very first avatar was the Witch King. After that, it was a series of gifs from Community.

How appropriate that I changed my avatar yesterday.
I wanted an engineer for this one because I'm about to start my PhD in engineering. I wanted a female engineer in particular because I had Peggy Seeger's I'm Gonna Be an Engineer [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCRRe72mwwY] stuck in my head for most of the day.
I have a habit of taking pictures of famous people and placing awesome face over them. This one in particular is Beatrice Hicks [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrice_Hicks].

They were meant to be GIFs, but I didn't realise at the time that if your image was over the size bounds the site wouldn't animate it, and by the time I realised that I didn't care enough to change it.
Nope, I changed mine the moment I set up the account.

This is my real hand. It ended up like that because of playing too much damn Rock Band...
It's the hand of my Rock Band 2 drummer, Nathan. You can upload your band players to Harmonix' servers, and download pictures of them in different posses, backgrounds, filters, etc... Or at least you used to be able to. Right now, the access to such functionality is discontinued, and the original image with Nathan's full body has been lost.

I was known as the poor-kid in school (That and for being borked in the brainpan), so I decided to choose a picture which both looked poor and deranged. The picture is of William Todd, a homeless man in Mississippi who was photographed by a guy called Matt Kenlon (Kenlon going to Mississippi to cover a flood which happened in November of 1994).
I chose it because of the "You gonna get raped" meme, I never claimed to be refined.

Mine is Sunset Shimmer, the most adorable villain turned hero you'll probably ever see. Can't remember what my previous avatar was, but once I'd seen the second Equestria Girls movie, my then avatar's fate was sealed. I've had this one (and its christmas variant) for about a year now.
Well, as of August 16, 2015, my avatar's the Wii U that Iwata holds during E3 2012 that flips through channels that I both like as well as giving a glimpse as to who I am as a person leading up the final channel showing 2014 Iwata from that one Smash Bros.
